The beautiful setting within Bellahouston Park, includes a sculpture garden. The sculpture 'Foot and Arch' by Ganesh Gohain appears in the first photo . The house includes a shop and cafe, and also functions as a venue for conferences and other types of event. There is a stylish boutique shop with lots of thoughtfully handpicked gifts, delicious food & service at Barga Cree Cafe with views into the landscaped gardens and plenty of parking too. THE EMPTY ROOM Charles Rennie Mackintosh, a plate from the portfolio “House for an Art Lover” 1901 as submitted to a German design magazine ‘Zeitschrift fur Innendekoration’, Darmstadt. Mackintosh didn’t provide the drawings specified and had to top up the drawings. Nobody won but he was awarded 6000 marks for his accomplishment, the largest design proposition to date in his career. Nothing prepares you for the sheer spectacle of Glasgow School of Art. I did a gig there for Penny Hudd and got the tour of the upper studios. Open the door and there is the Library. I still remember holding my breath When the place burnt (twice) I donated my Talwin Morris bindings and copy of Macao et Cosmage to ease my own sense of loss. The literature on Mackintosh is extensive but I love John McKean’s and Colin Baxter’s book (2000)a sensitive and compelling account of CRM's creativity. The vision of Mackintosh on the East Coast of England, arrested on the outbreak of war as a suspected spy, his flights abroad and mental struggles, are moving and remind us of what he could have achieved. The House for an Art Lover portfolio is published by the Glasgow School of Art as a facsimile. So that's us finally back at Acorn Towers having waited to ensure no runners turned up to register, then attempted to walk the route again to reassure ourselves we'd made the correct call. We did. I was sliding away down the hill whilst we tried to discuss the chances of the race going ahead, or if we could use an alternate route. The decision to cancel was based on getting to the park and traversing the park to get to registration. The conditions were totally unsuitable for runners and marshals alike. I know some of you had set off on your journey to get to the park, and apologies for the disruption and inconvenience to your day, but for once the weather has beaten us. The sun is just starting to burn through the fog, and I'm sure later is going to be a beautiful crisp perfect running afternoon. Those local trails will be calling your names!
