10 days to go before I leave for Scotland 🏴 and the @tgo_challenge. Anxiety is kicking in. I haven’t trained as much as in previous years, and am heavier. I set myself a pretty ambitious daily distance as I couldn’t be gone too long from my family. I hope I wasn’t over ambitious and that it won’t be a recipe for disaster. I am kind in an overthinking frenzy of trying to reduce my pack weight while making sure I pack for colder weather conditions, making last minute purchases, planing my ressuply parcels and wondering about what I might have forgotten. I will be better once I board that plane but right now I am just wondering how I’ll get through the week. Back to some hill walking and landscape photography this weekend in the wilderness up and behind Kinlochleven near Glencoe. There’s a beautiful small loch (lochan) at @ 700m called Coire an Lochain between the two munro mountains which overlook Loch Eilde Mor. Always peaceful going back to nature and I love the John Muir quote which I like to keep in mind: “Climb the mountains and get their good tidings. Headed to South Queensferry this morning for breakfast and a bracing, restorative walk, walking bits of the John Muir trail around the Dalmeny estate. It was very green and very peaceful and just what I needed to round off this lovely weekend. Hitting the city bookstores, then a good dinner, a hot bath and an early night with a good book. 🇪🇦 Catedral de Elgin... La linterna del Norte Destaca por su aire melancólico, su historia llena de poder y belleza, pero también de terrible violencia, es un imprescindible si visitas el norte de Escocia. Esta catedral fue fundada en 1224 a las afueras de Elgin, por el rey David I, con el objetivo de sustituir a la de Spynie, que se había quedado pequeña para las ambiciones de los poderosos obispos de Moray. Finalizada a mediados del S.XIII en un brillante estilo gótico, la catedral tuvo que ser reconstruida pocas décadas después tras sufrir un incendio que la devastó. Aunque, sorprendentemente, no sufrió daños durante las cruentas Guerras de Independencia, sería quemada hasta los cimientos a finales del S.XIV por el conde de Buchan, más conocido como el Lobo de Badenoch. -- 🇦🇺 Elgin Cathedral...The Lantern of the North It stands out for its melancholic air, its history full of power and beauty, but also terrible violence, it's a must if you visit the north of Scotland. Was founded in 1224 on the outskirts of Elgin, by King David I, with the aim of replacing that of Spynie, which had become too small for the ambitions of the powerful bishops of Moray. Completed in the mid-13th century in a brilliant Gothic style, the cathedral had to be rebuilt a few decades later after suffering a fire that devastated it.
