Questo incessante passaggio da una linea temporale all'altra permette di scoprire l'evoluzione della storia per gradi. Le riprese, spesso confusionarie, permettono di entrare a pieno nella tormentata storia d'amore e nel turbinio di emozioni. Zendaya è riuscita a dar vita al subdolo personaggio di Tashi Duncan facendola odiare per le sue scelte e per i suoi comportamenti. Tashi è una femme fatale che attira nella sua tela tutti quelli che la circondano e da cui nessuno può scappare. Anche Josh O'Connor e Mike Faist riescono a farci conoscere due personaggi ben caratterizzati con le loro insicurezze e paure. I tre attori sono riusciti a farci comprendere le diverse fasi della vita dei loro personaggi cambiando il loro modo di comportarsi nelle diverse situazioni in base all'età da interpretare. Guadagnino ha perfettamente rappresentato la spietata competizione dei tre personaggi alla ricerca di un amore irraggiungibile e ossessivo che si rifletterà anche nelle partite di tennis. Red-Headed Woman (Jack Conway, 1932) A mischievous little gem of Hollywood’s pre-code years, starring the trailblazing Jean Harlow as a conniving red-haired social climber who seduces a married man. Red Headed Woman feels firmly in the vein of many a portrait of an enterprising flapper, confirmed by the fact the great Anita Loos of Gentlemen Prefer Blondes fame is the screenwriter. It makes for a giddy soapish delight, brimming with vivacious humour, and a captivating lead turn from Harlow, whilst also rather refreshingly upending narrative expectations with the kind of progressive ending you’d never see once the restrictive Hays Code was vigorously enforced. Nelly Kaplan’s bitter satire about a young woman who uses her body to gain revenge on the provincial French village who have exploited her and her deceased mother, gleefully revels in the anarchy caused by its vengeful heroine who embraces a family legacy of alleged witchcraft. Granted some of its more subversive elements feel like they play second fiddle to a rather familiar satire of rural French existence that has been a proud cultural tradition since the days of Madame Bovary. But it still makes for a fierce little hand grenade of a cult film, and one still to raise eyebrows for the modern viewer. This portrait of Depeche Mode’s Music for the Masses tour is a pretty boilerplate rock doc, and so might be a smidge disappointing for some considering the pedigree of the directors behind it, no less than the towering D.A. Pennebaker of Monterey Pop and Company fame. But taken on its own terms, it makes for a solid portrait of a trailblazing musical act at the height of their powers. Day off today and I'm staying in and enjoying a day of absolute guilt free me time. A long lie in has been followed by a rather decadent lunchtime glass of wine and cheese. It's now time for feet up and a film, the choice today being Allelujah, a 2022 comedy drama. This is a beautifully layered film with a sublime stellar cast including @ballysgill @russelltovey and @ferrifrump Dame Judi Dench and Derek Jacobi. I first saw Allelujah on release c/o seefilmfirst and despite repeat watches, I don't tire of this evocative, heartbreaking and heartwarming film. We follow the story of a small hospital facing closure, the staff and patients within, the COVID pandemic and the financial issues surrounding our incredible NHS. As the stories unfold each portrays brutal, sad, caring, hopeful and truthful tales. Notably that in the scene of looking at a hospital bed, What do you see? Close to my heart as an NHS worker for 30+ years I can watch this film time and time again and it still reasonates. I openly cry every bleddy time. There's a clever storyline surprise that we never saw coming and @ballysgill 's torturous last scene still crushes me. Prepare to laugh, love and weep at this cinematic wonder. And a fair word of warning, don’t come into this expecting a conventional spin on a familiar and heavily overplayed horror sub-genre, The Walking Dead it certainly isn’t. All for a Rose (Marco Bellocchio, 2017) Another short film from Bellocchio, a lot more clear-cut in plot in its depiction of the quibbles and strife of the staff of a Northern Italian coffee bar. It feels a bit like a proof of concept for a tv pilot, but it’s a testatement to the talents of its director that I’d be quite happy to watch an entire series revolving around these fickle characters and their interpersonal relationships. På kvällen gick vi på en mycket omtalad och bra film som heter, Civil War som handlar om inbördeskrig i USA och tyvärr inte är omöjligt i framtiden då landet är oerhört polariserade och speciellt Trumpisterna verkar vara villiga att ta till våld. Perfect Days (Wim Wenders, 2023) Quite a late career comeback from the great German director of Paris Texas and Wings of Desire after a few years in the doldrums (at least in terms of narrative features). Depicting the quiet everyday routines of a Tokyo toilet cleaner, this is arthouse domestic drama at its most low-key and quietly enveloping. Perhaps a little bit too low-key considering how much this has been hyped as Wenders’ triumphant return, but there’s still a lot to like about its portrayal of routine urban ennui, and the quiet encroachments of personal life, not least with such a terrific lead performance by Koji Yakusho. Gaucho Film Club 🍿🎥 . My sisters and I had the best time last month when we went to Gaucho's Film Club to see Mamma Mia. We were intrigued to see what foods would be on the menu, inspired by the film and we were not disappointed! . The menu: 🍿 Popcorn + Champagne 🍿 Watermelon, tomato, feta salad + Sex on the Beach 🍿Steak, halloumi fries, dip trio, salad + Red wine 🍿Sponge cake, berries, ice cream + Passionfruit martini . We weren't a fan of the cake (it was a bit hard) but enjoyed everything else. As the menu is a surprise it may not be great for everyone but they did ask about dietary requirements so perhaps this could have been arranged in advance . Food is served during the film at time that it is inspired by (so you can literally raise a cocktail with Meryl, Christine & Julia) and sing-a-long is hugely encouraged. We even got up at the end of the film for a very brief boogie 🪩 . All the staff are dressed up in Abba inspired attire and they came round to have photos with everyone, plus there's a photo booth, so this lunch really has so much on offer! . For £65pp this film club really is a barrel of laughs and worth the money. Heute ein Filmtipp 🎬📽🍿 In „Eine Bibliothek der Welt“ gewährt uns Regisseur Davide Ferrario einen Einblick in Umberto Ecos Denken. 🧐 Und in dessen Bibliothek. 📚 Diese umfasst weit über 30.000 Bücher. Das Herzstück seiner Sammlung bilden dabei 1200 antike Ausgaben mit den Schwerpunkten Magie, Alchemie, Okkultismus, Semiologie, Dämonologie oder Animismus. Dieser separate Bereich der Bibliothek war sein Rückzugsort, ein Refugium der Ruhe, hier waren Laptops und Handys Tabu. 📵 Den Film gibt es in ausgewählten Filmkunstkinos zu sehen. Zum Beispiel heute um 13 Uhr im @abatonkino in Hamburg. Also hin da, Handy aus und Film ab. 📽️ Ab in die wunderbare Welt der Bücher des Philosophen, Geschichtenerzählers und Semiotikers Umberto Eco. Und wer noch einen Schritt weiter gehen möchte, lässt sein mobiles Telefon auch danach noch aus und greift zu einem Buch. Vielleicht ja zu einem von Umberto Eco. Sein bekanntestes Buch ist wohl „Der Name der Rose“. 🌹 Wenn es nach Eco selbst ging übrigens der schwächste seiner sechs Romane. Habt ihr schon mal ein Buch von ihm gelesen?
