Today I am hosting a 5 mile hike in honor and to bring awareness to Autism. My son was diagnosed with autism level 2 last October, and because April is Autism Awareness month, and because he thrives being outdoors & hiking with our family, I thought it would be the perfect way to honor him and his journey. For far too long my favorite thing to do was to get home and drink beers in the driveway with my neighbors. While I would justify it by not only telling myself but I would literally say it out loud… at least I’m not at the bar right? 🙄 I wasn’t present in my life! I was just going through the motions! My beautiful wife and kids deserve so much more! Today marks 13 months of a choice… the choice to become better! Better for me because they deserve it! In this time period there has been many ups and downs! But one thing has stayed constant! Jamie Wood Haefner’s constant love and support! In January I had hernia surgery and I let that slow down my process of eating right and staying consistent! 75 Hard Complete!! The post y’all have been waiting for!! My before and after pics are finally here, and I’m here to show you that anything is possible if you put your mind to it! It feels great that I went through the trials and tribulations of this journey especially during the hardships of it. I’m glad I did this because I’ve regained my confidence that I had from last year as well as redeem myself to be summer bod fit. If there’s anything this round of 75 Hard has taught me, it’s that this is only the beginning of becoming something great. Imagine if I didn’t fall off last year the way that I did. Imagine how much better I’d be looking if that didn’t happen. Either way I’m glad to be where I’m at now and regain my confidence and image from last year. Thank you all to my friends, family, Club Fitness, S2, and 1st Phorm for the support on this journey. There was little to no doubt that I would come out successful with all of you rooting for me. 75 Hard may be over this is only the beginning!! Have you purposely tried habit-stacking? Building new habits to take advantage of old ones? You do it pretty often in your day without realizing it, because it comes naturally from years of repetition. Saying your prayers before bed. Making your bed after you wake up. I’m working on 2 habits right now: 1. incorporating more high quality omega-3s into my diet 🐟 2. Building up my push-up strength 💪🏼 After I eat breakfast, which I do everyday, that is my ✨cue✨ to take my Full Mega (which is a high quality fish oil rich in EPA DHA as well as omega-3 fatty acids), and once I take that, I go into my gym and do 30 push-ups. Why? Not only does my diet that’s a little higher in Omega-6s bring on some inflammation, but I’ve been feeling more achey in my joints due to my strength training, and chronic stress (from weight training) leads to inflammation. ✍🏼Note: I do NOT do a great job of eating 3-5 servings of wild caught cold water fatty fish (Salmon, mackerel, anchovies, sardines, herring) in my week, so this is my way of consistently getting in the bare minimum of omega-3s daily. Plus! 25% of nerve cell membranes in our brains are made up of omega 3 fatty acids…if you’re deficient in them, you’re not helping your brain health🧠 I’m working on my push-ups because I’ve always been pretty weak at them, and want to perform them more easily. Won’t get better at them if I keep avoiding doing them 🙃 So. What is a new healthy habit you’re building into your daily routine?? I’d love to hear it. As vital as protein is to get into our diets, many people fall short on what they need to optimize their health and recovery This is where people tend to reach for protein supplementation, which is a great step in the right direction! You’re in a rhythm, your energy levels are starting to climb, your bad habits are in the rear view but not so far out of reach that you can’t see them…and it’s easy to tell yourself, “I’ve been crushing it…so I deserve a _____ “ 👈🏻👈🏻👈🏻 insert your favorite EXCUSE here. (snack, break, sip of alcohol,day off) And you think to yourself, “no one will know if I cheat and cave,” but YOU’LL know, and trust me when I tell you that feeling THAT after nearly TWO WEEKS of hard work…is worse than failing and owning it. Your time to celebrate is when you cross that finish line…buy that new pair of jeans that you’ve been trying to fit into, have a (small) glass of champagne to cheers your success, take that trip…but whatever you do on Day 76, don’t forget why you started. How I started the year vs how it’s going! #75hard has taught me a lot of things: Consistency Discipline Time management How dehydrated I used to be Etc. But tonight, it taught me: To embrace the suck To stick to my commitments to myself To take the opportunity to push harder and lean into the storm…just like a bison would. 🦬 The first time I did 75 hard, it didn’t rain a. Single. Time. for my outdoor workout. Tonight, there was no avoiding it. So I got home and went straight for it. I decided I’d run so people driving wouldn’t stop and ask if I needed a ride. 😂 And I never stopped! I’ve never ran the entire 45 minutes outside. And tonight I did it in the pouring down rain. My music stopped playing. My watch stopped tracking my time. I went a few extra minutes to ensure I wasn’t cheating myself or the program. It felt like I had a 20# vest on with how drenched my clothes were. I was the only one out. And it was more invigorating and empowering than any other work out I’ve done! Macy Jane is 3 Months Today!!! Forever and a blink is my favorite way to describe days with a newborn. The hard days are LONG but looking at our girl today I can’t believe how big she’s gotten and how much has changed. She’s graced us with intentional smiles this month and it’s enough to make you forgot the struggle you were in just moments before. She’s also still gaining like a champ and continues to impress for being a “premie” baby. Things Macy Loves: - Play time with anything that rattles - Smiling at mom and dad - Peeing while your changing her - Fighting naps - Walks in the stroller (one of the few times she WILL nap) Every day I grow being this girls momma. Mid Challenge check-in ✅️ My results are a great reminder to not stress about the scale. You probably won't believe it, but there is only a two pound difference in my photos!! Me : ⬇️ 2 pounds and feeling strong AF!! I threw push-ups in my workout today randomly, and I was so glad that I did. I have gotten so much better at them with my form but also my strength. Few weeks ago I ran a 5k for Suicide Prevention. I got off work at 6 am to run at 9 am. I didn’t finish in any record time and was actually rather annoyed at my time and my performance. Have you purposely tried habit-stacking? Building new habits to take advantage of old ones? You do it pretty often in your day without realizing it, because it comes naturally from years of repetition. Saying your prayers before bed. Making your bed after you wake up. I’m working on 2 habits right now: 1. incorporating more high quality omega-3s into my diet 🐟 2. Building up my push-up strength 💪🏼 After I eat breakfast, which I do everyday, that is my ✨cue✨ to take my Full Mega (which is a high quality fish oil rich in EPA DHA as well as omega-3 fatty acids), and once I take that, I go into my gym and do 30 push-ups. Why? Not only does my diet that’s a little higher in Omega-6s bring on some inflammation, but I’ve been feeling more achey in my joints due to my strength training, and chronic stress (from weight training) leads to inflammation. ✍🏼Note: I do NOT do a great job of eating 3-5 servings of wild caught cold water fatty fish (Salmon, mackerel, anchovies, sardines, herring) in my week, so this is my way of consistently getting in the bare minimum of omega-3s daily. Plus! 25% of nerve cell membranes in our brains are made up of omega 3 fatty acids…if you’re deficient in them, you’re not helping your brain health🧠 I’m working on my push-ups because I’ve always been pretty weak at them, and want to perform them more easily. Won’t get better at them if I keep avoiding doing them 🙃 So. What is a new healthy habit you’re building into your daily routine?? I’d love to hear it. What is up, guys? I thought I'd reintroduce myself to you guys! I'm Julia. Single parenting my almost 12 yr old son! Crazy I know. I'm all about God, my son, work, and fitness! I love supporting local businesses that I think and agree with, and that will make a difference in the world. I'll put them down after I type all this up. Communication is the key 🔑. Whether it be family, work, or your workout partner. Communicate with them. No one can read your mind. Don't have so much pride or be embarrassed about whatever you may need to communicate. You can win together by communicating. Discipline. If you want the results you're looking to achieve, then you have to have discipline with yourself. That includes not only your workouts but also food, water intake, daily movement, etc. I've worked very hard on myself to get where I'm at and it wasn't easy. There is no easy route. I'm still not done. I strive to get to my goals. And I know I'm going to have days where I fail but it doesn't and won't stop me. Single parenting my son is difficult but he sees me working. And hopefully, actually I know he's watching me. Because I see him working too. Lead by example. You guys, keep showing up for yourself and stay up!! “What I Eat in a Day” Hitting protein is the number 1 goal. I add @1stphorm Level-1 Ice Cream Sandwich Whey Protein to my overnight oats. Prepping breakfast for my husband @matthussung and I has been a game changer - it’s ready first thing in the morning for me to grab as leave for the gym and ready for him since he works from home. I aim for 6oz of lean protein for my lunch meal prep and add a healthy carb source and produce. I love breakfast for any meal, especially dinner so it’s usually eggs with egg whites and spinach or my favorite Level-1 Cinnamon Cookie Batter and Protein Waffle Mix, 1 egg and top it with 1 cup thawed blueberries. No need for syrup or butter. Aim for protein and produce at each meal. Hungry? Grab tuna and add your own seasonings- cheap and full of omega 3! Other favorites are cottage cheeese, boiled eggs or nonfat Greek yogurt. Post workout is always Phormula-1, 1/4c Ignition to replenish glycogen and 5gms of creatine. I strive for keeping it simple or the acronym KISS: Keep It Simple Stupid! If it’s too complicated odds are you won’t stick with it! My meal prep meals are simple ingredients, not fussy recipes, with my own seasonings. I’ve learned if they are in the fridge ready to go it’s less stressful and easier to hit my protein. I pre- track my day with the meals prepped, making it super easy to know how to fill the rest of my day to hit the rest of my macros. Today's adventures in taking care of motorcycle stuff.... giving the tow vehicle it's next new parts (new O2 sensors that were probably about 125K miles overdue for a change). 7 years ago today, I made the first big leap of my fitness journey and finished my first whole30. I went all in on this program, and while it's far in my rear view, I still am grateful for many of the things I learned from it and from @melissa_hartwig. Over 150lbs lost and maintained since the starting photo at the top. I've had many setbacks, often moving two steps forward only to slide back, but always getting back up and taking another step.
