So last Sunday I went to Mass at Saint Louis Cathedral-Basilica in New Orleans. It was my fourth trip to New Orleans within the past two years, but my first visit inside the Cathedral-Basilica. Since it's a rainy day in Valencia, I'll post some stuff I forgot to post about Barcelona. We visited the Sagrata Familia This is a properly GIANT cathedral that is still in the process of being built and was started in the late 1800s. It is an homage to the Holy Family. It is honestly one of the most stunning and fully thought-out/extravagant architectural feats I have ever seen. We went all the way to the top, where I definitely had a panic attack. I guess I can't do heights... but I made it down all 400 steps of the spiral staircase down. Born in 1673, St. Louis de Montfort had a strong devotion to the Eucharist as a child as well as the Blessed Virgin Mary. He had a love for the poor, giving them all that he had and living only on alms. St. Louis de Montfort was a great preacher, and he often encouraged frequent communion and devotion to Mary. Today, he is well-known for his Total Consecration to the Blessed Virgin Mary, which he said was the perfect way for Catholics to renew their baptismal promises. A lapsed catholic is someone who, at one point or another, fell away from the church and stopped practicing the Catholic faith. But, what do you do if you are in this situation? First, get to confession. Confession will reopen the door to the sacraments for you. After you make a confession and are in a state of grace, go to Mass and receive the Eucharist… and make sure to receive it often. It dates from 1117, and was designed by Portuguese and French architects. It preserves much of the original Romanesque architecture, which is rather rare in major churches of the time around Portugal and Europe. Inside, very little has changed over the centuries. Only tiles brought from Seville in 1503, Gothic altarpieces, and baroque paintings were added over time, with the highlight being the chancel’s extraordinary gilded Gothic altarpiece created by Flemish sculptors in the early 1500s. The cloisters, from 1218, were the first in Portugal to follow the Gothic style.

On Tuesday 6 February 2024, we were pleased to celebrate the Installation of four Canons of the Metropolitan Cathedral of St Chad. Mgr. Mark Crisp, Parish Priest of Blessed Carlo Acutis, Wolverhampton and Fr Raymond Corbett, Diocesan Chancellor and Catholic Chaplain to Aston University were installed as Chapter Canons, the group of priests who form part of the College of Consultors, who advise the Archbishop about the life and mission of the Archdiocese. Two more priests were installed as Honorary Canons: Fr Gary Buckby, Parish Priest of Our Lady & St Rose of Lima, Weoley Castle and St Peter, Bartley Green, Dean of both Cathedral and South Birmingham Deaneries and Episcopal Vicar for Religious; and Fr Douglas Lamb, Parish Priest of St Ambrose, Kidderminster. As well as advising the bishop of the Diocese, the Chapter of Canons has a care for the Cathedral and for its liturgical life and so meets and prays together more or less monthly through the year at the Chapter Mass – usually the 2nd Tuesday of the month. Mass was celebrated by Mgr Canon Tom Farrell and in the presence of Archbishop Bernard Longley. Mgr Tim Menezes, Cathedral Dean and Secretary of the Chapter, read the nominations for the four Canons who then made the promise of Obedience and the Profession of Faith. In turn, the new Canons ascended the sanctuary and knelt before the Archbishop as they were dressed in the liturgical garments appropriate to their appointment as Chapter Canons and Honorary Canons. The Archbishop presented them with a copy of the Chapter Statutes and formally admitted them saying: “I now admit you as a member of the Chapter of our Cathedral Church of St. Chad with the rights and duties of that office in the name of ✠the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Die St.-Lucia-Kathedrale (Katedralja e Shën Luçisë) in Durrës, Albanien. Sie ist der Hl. Lucia von Syrakus gewidmet und wurde als Kathedrale des Erzbistums Durrës errichtet. Mit der Eröffnung der Pauluskathedrale in Tirana im Jahr 2002 und der Verlegung des Sitzes des Bistums wurde sie zur Konkathedrale der heute Erzbistum Tirana-Durrës genannten Erzdiözese. Zum Entstehungsjahr der Kirche gibt es widersprüchliche Angaben. Am Tor zum Kirchhof findet sich das Jahr 1868 eingemeißelt. Als Eröffnungsjahr für die Kirche wird andernorts aber 1909 angegeben. Die Kathedrale wurde als einschiffige Saalkirche mit einer geosteten Apsis errichtet. Die Innenwände und der Chorraum sind aus Bruchstein. Der Chor ist viel schmaler und niedriger als das Kirchenschiff, seine Decke ist verputzt und hat vier halbrunde Fenster. Die Decke im Schiff ist aus Holz gefertigt (Foto 2). Jeder Seite der Kirche hat drei halbrunde Fenster, die sich im oberen Teil der Wände befinden. Nur das große runde Fenster im Hauptportal hat eine Buntverglasung, der Rest besteht aus Klarglas. Das Gebäude wurde 1967-1990 als religiöse Stätte geschlossen und zweckentfremdet. Im September 2013 wurde mit Restaurierungsarbeiten an dem schwer beschädigten Gebäude begonnen. Die heutige Ausstattung ist modern: der Altartisch, das Kruzifix, das Vorlesepult, die Bänke, die Empore, die Kreuzwegstationen aus Bronze (Foto 10). Rechts und links des Altars befinden sich zwei kleine Nebenaltäre: ein ist der Jungfrau Maria gewidmet (Foto 4,6) und der andere der Kirchenpatronin, der hl. Lucia (Foto 9). Im Raum gibt es noch mehrere Heiligenfiguren und Bilder. As the 74th pope of the Catholic Church, St. Martin I conducted the Lateran Council of 649. There, he condemned Patriarch Paul II of Constantinople for monothelitism, which claimed that Jesus had no human will. The emperor retaliated, and one of his henchmen attempted to kill the pope while he was distributing Holy Communion. Although this attempt was unsuccessful, the emperor had Pope Martin arrested and tortured but would not allow him to be executed. Pope Martin died soon after due to his injuries, and he is considered the last martyred pope.
