Earlier today, I attended the audio premiere of two compositions by a musical goliath, composer, and friend, Louis Dilegame, at Next Phase Sound Studio @nextphasestudio in Farmingdale, NY. These were copies of the full scores to read while listening. What a wonderful experience and fantastic compositions! Our connection stretches all the way back to our days in college (2007 onwards) at C.W. Post University (known as LIU Post @liupost nowadays). These two compositions are so well composed, orchestrated, and every meticulous detail was taken into account with such great care. The diversity, influence, and relaxation regarding not such strict structure/formulaic boundaries. Both contain such wonderful experiences that they definitely deserve to be commissioned and more. This weekend I’ve been working on building my new orchestral template. This is quite a big change due to the switch to #Cubase as well as getting new libraries from East West. The sounds are in place and mostly balanced, #Waves Magma Tubes on each channel and a J37 on the stereo out. Tried out the new #EastWest Spaces 2 reverb plugin as well which has been fun. Performances do not have drafts or rehearsals, and the participants themselves do not know what awaits them, as well as the audience, although the "rules of the game" are indicated by the organizers. (N. Melekhina) The event was held on April 26 as part of the exhibition "Three Ages of Women" (6+) in the Vologda Museum-Reserve. The exhibition presents paintings by famous masters of painting, Gianna Tutunjan, Evgeny Sokolov, Georgy Popov, graphic works by Vasily Sigorsky, ceramic panels by Tatyana Chistyakova, sculptures by Natalia Vyatkina, Tekusa Kontareva, Peter Movchun. Yesterday I received a huge amount of emotions and impressions, as I had to perform on the same stage with Natalia Melekhina, Tatyana Teraevich, Alla Kasetskaya. Had the pleasure to see the talented multi-instrumentalist (and composer) Nisha Sujatha Arunasalam @nishasue and actor Ilia Volok @volokilia (Stalin) in playwright David Pownal's play, STALIN'S MASTER CLASS. There with friends Reuven Herman (@greuvenmusic), Scot Derwingson-Peacock (@scotpeacock), and Jen Derwingson-Peacock (@jenlder). Appropriately, there was a Blüthner (@bluethner.pianos.leipzig) piano on stage (Shostakovich owned a Blüthner). Written by David Pownall and directed by Ron Sossi British playwright David Pownall imagines a chilling encounter in which composers Sergei Prokofiev and Dmitri Shostakovich are subjected to the rants and bullying of Josef Stalin and Andrei Zhdanov, Stalin’s self-important cultural commissar. Stalin and Zhdanov, reveal anti-democratic, formalist musical tendencies, alien to the Soviet people and their artistic tastes. Music that could make a whole population sick! Should one start writing music in the style ordered by the Master, or should one continue to do as one pleases, and risk death? It is January 1948, somewhere in the Kremlin.
