'Impressions' is a community-centric, invitational exhibition series dedicated to the artistic voices of recent graduates of regional colleges and universities. Designed as a spinoff of the gallery's recent 'Disrupting the Matrix: Impressions' exhibition (which highlighted works in printmaking by recent graduates of the University of North Carolina at Charlotte), 'Impressions' presents a modified platform that is open to all mediums. Through the 'Impressions' exhibition series, Elder Gallery of Contemporary Art aims to provide young and emerging artists with valuable hands-on access to professional art world practices, gallerist mentorship, and CV-building exhibition opportunities. The first multi-medium iteration of this series, 'Impressions Pt. II: Unearthing Identity' features works in painting, ceramics, and printmaking by three recent graduates of Queens University. Tia graduated from Seton Hall University, where she received her Bachelors of Arts in Theatre Performance. She’s been performing in theatre, chamber choir, and drama clubs since the third grade. While she was earning her Bachelor’s Degree, she had her opera debut in Narnia, Italy. After earning her Bachelor’s Degree, Tia secured multiple internships/jobs as a theatre educator. She is passionate and takes pride in working with actors on honing their skills and creating a solid foundation within theatre. Tia currently works with a nonprofit called Theatre Gap Initiative as the Program Assistant and RA. Tia is excited to be working with Queen City Concerts. Skipper Johnson (Company) is thrilled to make his debut with Queen City Concerts. Blodeuwedd (“flowerface”) Our always emoting and constantly fascinating muse @satya_performance_arts modeled this weird idea I had (and bonus thanks to @dravyn_xx for doing the makeup that day) I have a fascination with things with antlers, masks, and flowers… so not surprised they all showed for a concept for me. I’ve heard this has tones of Midsommar from multiple people and I am not mad at the comparison at all (because those are some amazing visuals), though I can’t say it was a direct influence on this particular idea. This collection was inspired by my memories and there are so many sweet little details tucked into each piece. For example, “It’s Just Drip Dropping” was inspired by mornings spent with my mom and two sisters feeding the ducks at the local university ponds. I’m the middle duck stepping just like my mom in the painting. I loved being outside and even when it was raining I would beg to go outside claiming that it wasn’t raining, “it was just drip dropping”. Generally speaking, my art is a reflection of who I was during the time that I made it - what trip I just got back from or am planning, what tile I saw behind the bar during date night, the way that two colors met on the side of a building. Inspiration is always changing me so while my art will always come through my filter and therefore have my style, it will constantly be evolving with me and that is truly one of my favorite things. Inspired by child’s play, my hope is that my latest art for @themillergallery will add a little extra joy to the spaces that they hang in. Meet 'My Piano Days,' a piece that combines softness and strength in equal measure. My sisters and I took many years of piano lessons, but in true Mary fashion, I often managed to wiggle out of them and ended up arranging flowers with my piano teacher’s wife instead. I am so drawn to bold graphic lines in my work as well as the tenderness that fibers bring to my designs. This piece is a true contradiction - fiber holds space for strength and softness - a balance I’m always trying to strike myself. The memories this collection is based on makes me feel soft and cozy but I know they made me the strong woman I am today. She also originated the role of Eva in Allie Kazan and the Magic Mansion. Other credits include: Julius Caesar (Mark Antony), A Chorus Line (Judy), and Fiddler on the Roof (Hodel). All the glory to God! Raven Monroe (Company) is an actor and playwright from Charlotte, NC. She is a proud graduate of UNC Charlotte (BA ‘16) and NYU Tisch School of the Arts (MFA ‘19) where she honed her skills in the dramatic arts. Her works include Love & Justice and Other Fairy Tales, Fireflies, and the upcoming musical Threads about the 1929 Loray Mill Strike in Gastonia, NC. Sunday, June 2, 1:30-4:30 @charlottemuseumofhistory we have curated a fantastic afternoon of women-owned small businesses and creative entrepreneurs to shine light on mental health needs women face and to raise much needed money for access to care. The Queen’s Tea Party is a day for you to connect with other women, receive Queen-like treatment, and refill your cup so you can show up for your community in ways you want and need. Our goal is $20,000 (200 therapy hours) which ticket sales and sponsorships will help us achieve. Get to know the cast of RAGTIME! Acacia Jayma (Company) After her last show with QCC, also being her first in years, Acacia was hooked and knew she had to work with QCC again. Her last production, Sunset Boulevard, restarted her love for theatre and performing, and she is so excited to be a part of Ragtime! She can’t wait to see how the pieces of this beautiful production are going to come together! Donovan Abeshaus (Company) is extremely excited about his first QCC production! A senior musical theatre major at Northwest School of the Arts, Donovan recently appeared in the school’s production of Legally Blonde (Aaron Schultz) and previously Cabaret (Schultz). Donovan has also performed with multiple companies around Charlotte, including CPCC, Theatre Charlotte, and Actor's Theatre of Charlotte. He has also been stage managing shows at Mooresville Community Children's Theatre and assistant directing at Theatre Charlotte and Northwest. In the fall, he will be attending Pace University in NYC to pursue a B.A. in Directing. Donovan would like to thank Zack and the rest of the team at QC Concerts for this opportunity! Hands Create Summer Art Camps start June 10th!!!! Experienced art educators will guide young artists through completing unique, fine art masterpieces inspired by the study of famous artists and art cultures. Various 2-D and 3-D art mediums will be explored each camp week, including clay, printmaking, paint, fiber arts, paper mache, and more. We are offering different camps for TK-2nd Grades, 1st-8th Grades, Tween and Teen camps as well. Most camps includes a morning snack-size Nautical bowl on Fun-Friday. Each camper gets a Hands Create T-Shirt that they will tie-dye the first day of camp. Campers should bring a snack, a lunch and a water. Classes are filling up so do not hesitate enrolling! Megan Cobb (Company) is a new transplant to Charlotte, but you may have seen her in Actor’s Theatre of Charlotte’s American Idiot in 2017 and last season in Queen City Concerts’ Diana: The Musical. Megan graduated from Wake Forest University School of Law in 2022 and now works in business law and civil litigation. Recent roles include Ophelia in Hamlet with Scenic City Shakespeare, Hope Cladwell in Urinetown, and Natalie in Next to Normal with Ensemble Theatre of Chattanooga. Stuart Spencer (Willie Conklin) is excited to return to the QCC stage after sitting in the director’s chair for Sunset Boulevard earlier this season. Previously, he appeared in Season 2’s Kinky Boots and Titanic: The Musical.
