Tonight we went to The Complete New Vegan Asain Cookbook! This recipe is called Spicy Dan Dan Noodles! First you crumble tofu and cook this with Chinese 5 Spice and lots of other delicious sauces! You also boil your greens separately whilst the tofu is cooking. You then make a lovely sauce from soy sauce, Chinese sesame paste, Chinese 5 Spice, chilli oil, veg stock and other sauces. When everything is cooked, you plate up your cooked noodles. This is topped with the greens followed by the tofu. You then pour the beautiful sauce over the top and add spring onions and crushed peanuts! This is another amazing recipe from this book!! The tofu mixture is so flavourful, we could have eaten lots more of that, so next time we'll double up on the ingredients! The sauce over the top was perfect, it was nice and creamy from the Chinese sesame paste and it also had that lovely saltiness and chilli hit. I love tahini. I like several different brands. I’ve been using it a lot more for sauces and hummus the past 6 months. I am following @veggiekins for vegan inspiration and she HIGHLY suggested getting Chinese sesame paste for its extra roasted depth of flavor. I finally did some shopping at the Asian market and was shock at how really different the sesame paste was. Had to taste test the minute I got home. It is so deeply roasted and FULL of flavor. Reganmian is, unsurprisingly, Wuhan’s most emblematic food. I made sandwich cookies to use up the leftover dough from making Edd Kimber’s PBJ jammy dodgers. Then took inspiration from Edd’s tahini sandwich cookies, but put my own spin on them by using Chinese sesame paste, blonde chocolate, floral honey & plenty of flaky sea salt. Oh, and dark chocolate and mixed toasted sesame seeds for ✨flair✨ Because I have a cold at the moment, my sense of taste is extremely compromised (I hate it, it feels like the sound is turned down on everything I eat!), so I'm having to bully mum into eating everything I make to judge if it's good or not. Chinese Sesame Noodles (cold edition because it's so hot 😩) I saw these noodles on someone's video once and I was reslly eager to try it. After searching and searching for the key sauce ingredient: Sesame Paste, I finally found it last weekend at NSK. I followed @chez.jorge 's sauce recipe and threw in some fresh vegetables for colour and crunch.
