I have been listening to the FAST. FEAST. REPEAT. Intermittent Fasting for L*IF*E with Gin & Sheri podcast when I have time since I started my 28 day reset. One of my worries since re-starting fasting has been that I won’t eat enough & I will slow my metabolism. This episode, specifically at the time circled, answered my fears/questions. It was exactly what I needed to hear. For the last 2 years even if I’m not really hungry for a second meal, I fear that having only eaten 600-800 calories in a day will be a detriment to my journey. So I will eat a second meal to make sure I get in at least 1200 calories. Hello, diet brain anybody?! Working on that. So from this point forward I really am not going to count calories. I am just going to listen to my body & reassess as needed. I am so thankful to these ladies for putting this show together. I so glad that I decided to re-read Fast Feast Repeat & do the 28!day challenge. Day 15 of my 28 day Fast Re-start. Day 14 was a hard day personally. Was very stressful due to my poor old dog. I stayed up past my bedtime, which tends to cause troubles for me. I don’t know what it is about staying up past 9pm but I get hungry. I almost had something to eat but thought about it & realized I wasn’t honestly hungry. I just wanted something because I was tired, stressed, & everyone else was having a sweet. Plus, I didn’t want to reset my fasting timer and fast for half the day today just to make up for it. Day 14 of my 28 day Fast Re-start. Day 13 went by no trouble. My lunch was so filling that I wasn’t hungry at dinner time. I went ahead and skipped it even though I wondered how I would feel this morning (news flash I’m fine), but mostly because I worry that if I don’t eat enough calories I will go I to starvation mode. And it’s really hard line to walk, I’m not hungry most days even during my window but fear not eating enough. After listening to the podcast I decided am just going to listen to my body more. If I’m hungry I eat, but when I’m not hungry I am not going to force myself… which I have been doing to a small extent because of that fear. 👟 Nice and easy jog at ~25 hours fasted. I’ll break fast at about 40 hours. In an alternate day fasting pattern, the goal is never an arbitrary number but simply a fast that spans two sleeps. I started my fast Sunday at 6:30pm after my OMAD and will break fast today at about 10:30am. There are a ton of health benefits within a longer fast. Day 12 of my 28 day Fast Re-start. Day 11 I meal prepped, did all my usual Sunday last minute laundry & tidying up after the weekend but also just chilled. Usually I am manically trying to make sure everything is ready for Monday. Not yesterday, I even watched tv (sounds mundane but I normally watch about an hour a tv a month or less). Was a nice change of pace. Today I feel great! Not my usual Monday exhausted self. Oh & I tried on those jeans. They fit almost perfectly, with one little exception… the waist is too big. 😁 I felt pretty chuffed with myself. Day 9 of my 28 day Fast Re-start. Day 8 so in the morning I did as suggested & took some measurements since I am not weighing this month. Also took some progress pics. You guys, I cannot believe what I saw. My husband keeps telling me he can see it. But I don’t see it. Progress pics from the front, can’t really tell…a little but meh. But damn my side view. Crazy!!!! I literally look half the size I did. I guess that body recomposition is no joke. Made me super happy so actually see for myself all my hard work is paying off. Day 8 of my 28 day Fast Re-start. Day 7 was interesting. It was a workday & I was with a large group, we all had to go to lunch together one place at the same time. It was 2 hours before my window was supposed to open so I chose to just skip until after work. Did get hungry at the 18 hour mark, like my body has already gotten used to that window, but it passed quickly. Wasn’t very hungry at around the 22 hour mark until my husband called me on my way home from work and asked if I wanted him to cook something for me for when I got home. By the time I got home I was ready to eat. Had a snack/small meal then had dinner about an hour later, which I got full very fast from. So all in all ate a lot fewer calories than I’d like but we will see how that translates to today hunger. Also since it’s a new month I am staying off the scale through the remainder of my reset, as Gin says to do in the book. Day 3 of my 28 day Fast Re-start. Day 2 went by easily. I don’t have any trouble fasting 18 hours, as I have been varying my fasts around this time for a while now. I always vary my fast times so my body doesn’t get used to when/how much I’m going to eat. No homeostasis wanted around here. I am going to have to remember to drink my lmnt in my eating window though. Since I haven’t had one for 2 days I got leg cramps last night. My morning routing before this including drinking one right before I work out. Day 1 of my 28 day Fast Re-start. Had been a couple of years since I read the Fast. Feast. Repeat. by @ginstephens. Re read it after I got this book & a few things clicked that maybe hadn’t clicked before. When I read FFR I was newly back into fasting, having done the 5:2 diet for years after it came out in 2013. I thought pfft, I know what I am doing so I didn’t listen to a her (ahem, cleaning fasting) & I have done fairly well. But I have been having a sugar free energy drink, grapefruit lmnt, or plain Earl Grey tea some mornings thinking that “I know they say not to have them, but I’M fine, it doesn’t affect ME”. Well, after rereading it with more seasoned eyes almost 2 years later … maybe it does. Maybe I am making it harder in myself. So what’s the harm right. SOOOO doing a 28 day Restart/Reset. ⏰ When I started the down day up day protocol (ADF), I was miserable. A down day is the fasting day and the up day is the feast day. They are usually fasts that are 36-42 hours in length. I tried it on my 6th month and 10th month but it just didn’t feel good. So, in May of 2020 (15 months experience fasting), I asked Gin if I could post a thread dedicated to a down day and she said she’d love it! So, I called the thread, “MealLess Monday”. It was a place where we tried to make a longer fast less intimidating by doing it together. 4 years later, I’ve never not posted a MealLess Monday thread. We started on the FB page and have continued within Community since 2021. I started with one down day a week (a fast that spans two nights - Sun and Mon) and then every month, the hours added up and I did two down days for a month and then 3 days for a month. Eventually, I was doing an every other day protocol for 8 months. This is what it looked like: one day, I’d fast the whole day and the next, I’d eat and I’d repeat. Longer fasts have amazing health benefits as thoroughly explained in Mark Mattson’s paper, Flipping the Metabolic Switch: Understanding and Applying Health Benefits of Fasting. In Gin’s Community, we have a Face to Face Friday post. It’s somewhere that we can come for inspiration when we need it. This is a very emotional and vulnerable share for me. There are five years between these photos. I’ve gone through so many changes physically, emotionally, mentally and metabolically in that time. I went through a couple of really hard things last year and I don’t know where I’d be without my fasting community. This post is for y’all. A really special thank you to two amazing women who live the fasting lifestyle every day, @ginstephens and Sheri @fast_feast_repeat_podcast. The hours we spend “behind the scenes” has been a life saver 🛟 Fasting has decreased my overall inflammation, reversed my prediabetes and non alcoholic fatty liver disease. But, it’s also brought so many amazing people and experiences into my life and I’m forever grateful. I am also so grateful to @suga_autumn95 who fasts with me (in real life) every day. Finally my weight is going back into the green 😅 I’ve officially lost the water weight I gained over spring break last week! Second pic is my cat Henry giving me the stink eye because he wants cuddles but I was working on homework. I don’t know if I’ve mentioned but all school year I’ve been taking classes so I can be the lead daycare teacher at the preschool I work at and I’m almost done!! I only have a few more pages of assignments! I’m already doing most of the lead teacher duties but I’ll finally have the title and the raise to go with it. I really feel like I’ve found my true calling in life. I love all my kiddos as if they were my own! It’s Face to Face Friday! * During your health journey, it’s important to take pictures. Take pictures even when you feel like complete crap, like this one of me in the before photo. Because when I look at that picture, I remember how terrible I felt. I had already lost my 20 pounds from fasting but gained it all back quickly because of being prescribed the wrong thyroid medication. It was COVID; we were living in our RV, I was homeschooling the kiddos, and my step-father had recently passed—it was a lot, and I was not in a good place like all of us at that time. But when I look at the picture from last week, I’m really proud. I’m so proud of myself for not taking no for an answer and that’s a great feeling to have. * I refused to give up. Just wanted to share a little struggle I just had. It’s spring break and the first half of it I didn’t fast at all and now my weekly average is in the red for the first time since October. It is what it is! I was actually plateauing so I’m hoping that having a few non-fasting days is enough of a switch up to get back on track. 👟 Remember who TF you are. Whatever it is that makes you happy - find a way to return to that. This past year kicked my ass but if I’m honest, I had lost connection with myself long before that. We’re moms, dads, wives, husbands, daughters, sons, girlfriends, boyfriends and friends first. But it is important to take care of you. And that’ll look differently for everyone. Find it. Today, I ran a 5k for the first time in over a year and it gave me back a tiny piece of me. That may not be what it looks like for you but there’s something that will do that for you as well. Do it. Find the things that fulfill you - not only those around you. Muscles have memory and that’s the only way I got through that run today. Go through your memories and really think about what makes YOU happy. Good morning! It is a day off for me. I woke with the beginnings of a cold but I am 18 hours in to my 72 hour fast and I am hoping it fixes me up. I was thinking of trying some cold pills but I don't want to take them during the fast. Hoping the autophagy takes care of it. . I am not going to let my sore throat interrupt my day though! I have a few errands to run, hoping to take advantage of the "Buy $50 of own brand/No Name products at Loblaws (a Canadian supermarket chain), get 5000 points" deal as I LOVE LOVE LOVE No Name products, might treat myself to an Americano at a new coffee shop, do some window shopping, and decide what to break my fast with on Sunday! This is my all time favorite picture of me and my dad. It was taken on Christmas Day 1991, I was 15 and he was 45. * One of the primary reasons, beyond my self, that I want to help people be healthy and feel better, is because of my dad. He struggled for so many years with his weight, his health, and his emotions. * And like everyone else, he tried. He cut carbs, he tried to quit smoking, he would walk. He’d lose some weight then go back to his favorite Cheetos or clam chowder😉 * Funny thing is, he drank black coffee all morning! He had a pot on his desk at work all day. My dad passed away way too early at 59 from cancer. He never got to meet my kids, although before he died, I was able to tell him I was pregnant with my son, Kyle. I really miss him. * I so badly wish I knew about fasting back then. It would have been so easy for him to transition over to fasting just 14hours a day. I know he could have done it and I know he would have reversed his conditions. * You guys- you have one chance at life. Try fasting. I’m only fasting 12-14 hours right now and in combination with food I’m choosing to eat, I’m losing weight from a one year plateau and I’m feeling so good! * Tell your friends or family about fasting- it could save their life. I don’t care if people think it’s bad or causes food issues. What causes food issues is eating all the shit we eat and the government promoting it, and the marketing hiding all the chemicals, including petroleum IN YOUR FOOD, including your chicken nuggets kiddos! Eating fast food, a huge frozen coffee drink, and pizza during your day is crazy. Delaying your meals for 18 hours is not crazy. Give me a break! * That’s all today🤣 I’m going to go get another cup of black coffee.
