With my ankle still on the mend, I didn’t want to go out and do something high impact and destroy it again, so I instead dug the bike out the shed and did a strong 25 mile loop up to Lancaster along the A6 and down the A588 through Cockerham back to Garstang. It felt really good to be out on the bike and my ankle felt fine throughout - apart from when I hit the occasional pothole! #cycling #lancashire #cockerham #sunnydays

I had the most wonderful evening on Wednesday! I went to the fabulous place that is @therewildingcommunity to celebrate the Spring Equinox, marking the change in the season and self-reflection. The weather was perfect, the sunset spectacular as all 10 of us gathered under the moonlight for a wild swim, followed by marshmallows and hot chocolate around an open fire. It was a wonderful way to spend a couple of hours, and an experience I will definitely be repeating ❤️ It reminded me of my paintings. being fully immersed in nature with herons flying over us whilst we swam. Didn’t it feel like Spring today 😁 The sun was shining, the birds were singing. The new energy is palpable. The urge to get outside, explore, leave my cares behind and find some new inspiration for my writing was too great to resist. However, I am still recovering from an autoimmune flare up. My joints are sore, a bit tender and swollen, especially my right knee. With a very sturdy support bandage I felt as though a nice 6 miler around the coast, not too much gradient, would be just the ticket. The walk was fabulous, very wet underfoot, but fabulous. 6 Hares, 5 Whooper swans, Shellducks, Skylarks, a Curlew and a gigantic flock of Starlings were just a few of the treats along the way. Then the flooded field and a good extra mile detour. My knee is jiggered. 🙄 The lesson - even though we can feel all this wonderful energy, it is still only just rising out of the sleepy, hibernation phase of Winter. Pace yourself. Be kind to yourself. And don’t rush. As my family live round this way, it’s a must stop when travelling down from Glasgow in the car. Despite not being too accessible by public transport, if travelling from afar, Wallings is always busy with custom no matter what season! It always has been and always will be worth the wait! 🍽️This time, I decided to sit in. I filled out this form for a sundae, although I have been very loyal to bubblegum ice cream in a cone. The filling of the sheet was quick and easy (depending on how long it takes to make your mind up from browsing at all the flavours), taken to the counter and before you know it, one of the employees comes round with the sundae! 😍Who would’ve thought that these flavours I chose, could taste so much like the real thing but with a different texture? One thing i can’t get over is the christmas pudding ice cream! Yes it might not be christmas but wow! What a strong and devine flavour! The white hot chocolate sauce is also to die for! This is Crookhey Hall. It used to be home to the surrealist artist Leanora Carrington. The family moved there when she was just 9 years old and remained in their procession until 1940. I only found this out after visiting the Venice Biennale in 2022, which was entitled "the milk of dreams", after Carrington's series of surreal stories and illustrations. Crookhey Hall featured in the work of Leanore Carrington, including a painting of the same name which was later donated by the artist to the National Museum of Women in the Arts NMWA, in Washington DC @womeninthearts. I was brought up just over a mile away and attended primary school less than a mile away from Crookhey Hall. It was always known as the school for naughty boys. These days it's a school dedicated to giving young children with behavioural or social problems a better chance in life. You can't enter the grounds but we did drive up to it yesterday to take a look from a distance. The Lady of the Priory: Anne Rothwell's Memorial Grave The Local stories range from the suggestions that Anne had fallen from the Priory clock tower as she tried to turn the clock back to save her loved one who was due to be hanged at Lancaster Castle.. or that she fell whilst having been cleaning it. The believed truth behind her story is far different from the legendary tales we often hear. Anne Rothwell nèe Carter, was born to James and Jane Carter in Lancaster on the 14th August 1806 and would go on to marry William Talbot Rothwell in 1832 in Cockerham. Living and working on a Farm, Sadly Anne would pass away 10 years later at Foxholes, Bay Horse at the age of 35 and would be buried at Lancaster Priory on the 5th February 1842. William Talbot Rothwell would later remarry and name his first daughter Anne Carter Leisetta Rothwell, after his beloved first wife Anne. Why and how did Anne Rothwell pass away? Did she lose her life in childbirth? Did she become ill, or was it an accidental death?
