Gillespie’s interest in moths and the luminous power of the mezzotint engraving to express their beauty and vulnerability is further explored in new works for ‘Underwing’. The titles themselves read like poetry: Peach Blossom; Advancing Tiger; Wounded Tiger; Nut-tree Tussock; A Thousand Goodbyes. Her concerns as ever are entwined with the threat to natural habitats. In particular the watery world of Slapton Ley, near her home in Devon, where the sea threatens to encroach on a unique freshwater ecosystem. Chuck Close (1940–2021) was a remarkably versatile and creative printmaker who utilized a wide range of techniques to render images of himself and his friends. In addition to his self portraits, the exhibition presents images in a variety of printing techniques that portray Close’s friends and fellow artists John Chamberlain, Philip Glass, Lyle Ashton Harris, Alex Katz, Roy Lichtenstein, Lucas Samaras, and James Siena. || February 2024 || The etching Cryosphere was inspired by my recent residency at NIRS and research trip to Greenland 🇬🇱 - and thinking about ice, minerals, fossils and microbial eco systems. Greenland is predominantly ice, covering 80% of its surface As the ice continues to melt, there are concerns that the Arctic Ocean is becoming warmer and saltier, otherwise referred to as ‘spicier’, this has a huge impact on the formation of sea ice and marine life. The glaciers host a unique microbial ecosystem, and the melting ice is releasing the microbial species that inhabit it’s surface. Researchers are studying the microbes found here, such as different bacteria, and their potential for future antibiotics but also concerns for potential pathogens. There still seems to be many unknown and much to learn about the consequences of the climate changing. I was struck by the people we met in Greenland, speaking of how their observations about the change in weather patterns, making things less predictable.

Just one week to go before my Social Media Sabbatical is over, so here on Day 103 I thought I'd offer up my first experiment in printing over the initial monotype with a second plate... which was way back in September 2021. - A quick reminder as to why I'm posting so much older work - I've decided to step back from social media for a while, but to keep my account ticking over I've pre-scheduled a whole range of posts. So even though I'm 'here' I'll hopefully be hard at work in my studio. - The work I'm posting will then be sold every ten days or so with huge discounts - from at least 30% to up to 70% their usual retail price. Why? Linocut #Linocut #LinocutPrint Linocut printing is a relief printing technique where an image is carved into a sheet of linoleum, leaving behind the raised areas that will be inked and printed. The linoleum block is then pressed onto paper or fabric to create the final printed design. Emma Adesina is an artist based in Scotland. Her work focuses on the natural world. Highlighting ways in which humankind uses aspects of the natural world in a symbolic way. Uncovering how and why humanity attaches meaning to objects. Linocut and drypoint are both used to explore these ideas. Emma Adesina uses Lino blocks and a Dremel to create her linocut prints and perspex plates and an etching needle to create her drypoint prints. Emma Adesina has previously exhibited at The Royal Academy of Arts, London, The Royal Scottish Academy, Edinburgh, Woolwich Contemporary Print Fair, London, Aberdeen Art Gallery, Aberdeen.
