Very nice and well made linocut print. It is signed Alex Cassie and dated '83. I have not been able to find out anything about the artist. I did find an Alex Cassie (1916-2012) who was an amateur artist and a forger, and who played a part in the history that led to the film 'The great escape'. I do not know if he made linocut prints at all. The print was professionally framed in Surrey, which is the county in which the former forger Alex Cassie passed away. Print and frame are in good condition. All of my other prints were hand drawn and printed from a printer, but the gators were hand carved on a linoleum block and then stamped onto the paper. More just like it on the way…✨

Whew! Took a minute but the sh🌸p is back up and running 🥳 been sick for most of the week (on my birthday non the less) and today I finally started to feel a bit better. Huzzah! So much is happening right now. If you haven’t followed any of my stories, here’s a recap: It’s my last month at my current job. I’m leaving because an opportunity was thrown into my lap that I just couldn’t pass up on. Next month I will start working and apprenticing under an amazing mentor and it’s located in my hometown. As I’ve already done a couple of sea turtle prints I wasn’t planning on doing another one for this week’s @drawingskool homework assignment “SEA TURTLE,” and I wasn’t really planning on doing one for this week’s @funfridayartclub prompt “TERRY PRATCHETT,” as I’ve never read his books (apparently today is Terry Pratchett Day). I did have a copy of Guards, Guards when I was a kid but I just couldn’t get into it. However before I completely wrote-off the idea I did a bit of googling to discover that Pratchett’s “Discworld” is suspended on the back of four elephants standing on top of a sea turtle… and the thought of a prompt double whammy got me interested and I thought that was a fun challenge. The first print is on heavy rag paper followed by Lokta paper, antiqued rag paper and cartridge paper. Déirdre Kelly obtained Master of Arts in Printmaking from Wimbledon School of Art (@wimbledonual) in 1984, becoming a member of the Royal Society of Painter Printmakers and since has been exhibiting work regularly in UK, France & Italy. Her work is held in many public and private collections including the Ashmolean Museum (@ashmoleanmuseum), Oxford (@oxford_uni), Tate Gallery Library (@tate), London, University of Leeds Library (@universityofleeds), U.K. Luciano Benetton Collection, Italy, N.I.V.A.L, Dublin, Ireland, National Gallery of Canada Library (@natgallerycan) , Canada, and M.O.M.A. Library (@themuseumofmodernart), New York, U.S.A. Kelly was founding director and curator of the Hardware Gallery, London (1986-2003) specialising in printmaking and artist’s books exhibitions. Hardware was at the centre of the U.K. artist’s book revival of the late 1980s and 1990s. Its artists’ book collection is now housed in the British Library and documentation on Hardware Gallery activities is part of Tate Archive at the Tate Britain, London. Awards include a British Council Exchange residency at Museu da Gravura, Curitiba, Brazil 1994, the Whatman Paper Prize 1988, the Atlantis Paper Prize 1987, and the Sericol Purchase Prize 1986. In 2012 she was made a fellow of the Ballinglen Visual Arts Foundation, Ireland and held residencies in 2013, 2016, 2018, 2023 and 2024. Finalement ! J’ai mis des mois à terminer ces deux portraits de Virginia Woolf. J’ai beaucoup procrastiné et pour ne pas me sentir coupable j’ai réalisé deux autres portraits, celui de sa sœur, la peintre Vanessa Belle et celui de son amante l’écrivaine Vita Sackville-West. Elles ont occupé mon temps et mon esprit et les voir enfin finies est un peu un soulagement. Ces gravures ont aussi été une consolation quand mon iPad a planté et que j’ai perdu plusieurs projets. Leurs dessins étaient déjà transférés ou imprimés sur du papier et je pouvais donc continuer leur réalisation. Les circonstances de la création de certaines gravures leur donnent une petite place à part dans nos cœurs, n’est-ce pas ? . . . Finally! It took me months to finish these two portraits of Virginia Woolf. I procrastinated a lot and so as not to feel guilty I did two other portraits, of her sister, the painter Vanessa Belle, and of her lover, the writer Vita Sackville-West. They occupied my time and my mind, and to see them finally finished is a bit of a relief. These prints were also a consolation when my iPad crashed and I lost several projects. Their drawings had already been transferred or printed on paper, so I was able to continue with their creation. As an artist, I am fascinated by the convergence of traditional printmaking techniques with modern digital tools. My work is a reflection of this intersection, where I seamlessly blend age-old methods with contemporary technology to create visually captivating pieces. However, I am equally drawn to the endless possibilities offered by digital technology. Through digital manipulation, I am able to push the boundaries of traditional printmaking, experimenting with color, scale, and composition in ways that were previously unimaginable. The digital realm empowers me to explore new techniques, iterate quickly, and breathe new life into age-old processes. In my work, I seek to explore themes of identity, memory and the beautiful nostalgic path. On the other hand my two prints are completely digital , one is of jelly fish which defines that jellyfish go with the flow which means that they have quality of acceptance and faith , surrendering to the waves without struggling or sinking in emotionally challenging times, being able to stand without solidifying in difficult conditions, sensitivity to the water element, that is, emotionality. My another print is about scarfoldings which are important for the safety and accessibility for the work during construction but in Pakistan there is no proper system or facilities for the workers that if any accident occur who will be responsible for their life or for their loss. 🇩🇪 „Sägegarnele“ Dieses Mal war die übrig gebliebene Farbe Dunkel-Rot, was natürlich ebenfalls super zur Garnele passt. Ich habe sie auf Seidenpapier (DIN A 4) gedruckt, das ich zum Schutz der Presse beim Drucken von Aquatinta benutzt habe. Es ergibt einen lustigen Hintergrund, wie ich finde. Jeder Druck ist somit etwas unterschiedlich (siehe Fotos) 🌊 Motiv: ca 10 x 15 cm € 5,- + Versand Bei Interesse bitte eine DM an mich. 🇬🇧 „common prawn“, on silk paper I used leftover color (dark red) and paper (21 x 29,7 cm) I used for protecting the press while printing aquatint. Finding a title for my works is always long , often matching the time of engraving the block. Nevertheless, once I’ve found it, it appears obvious to me. The latest one makes no exception to the rule : « Octogone », my latest creation. I’ll show it to you soon 🌻 .
