Meet the artist Robert Moroney @r.moroney I am a self-taught textile artist who likes to use embroidery, patchwork and felting to create unique pieces of work, as well as everyday practical items. I use a variety of fabrics but I really like to dye, paint, and print unique pieces of cloth to use as a base for some of my work. I am especially inspired by nature, my garden and many of the local beautiful walks around the area. One of the challenges I have set myself is to be less wasteful and as a result, I have begun to use small pieces of ‘scrap’ fabric in a process called crumb quilting. Today was the first time I visited the Noordhoek Open Studios days. Here’s 3 of the artists we visited and yes, we did visit a few more but I forgot to take pictures. - First up was @lucvanderwalt His paintings have an earthy and tribal feel. There’s a strong connection to nature. Even though the trend is to emphasize a strong negative influence of humans on nature, Luc believes our influence is limited and he rather focuses on our limitless potential and getting to understand our shadow side in order to keep learning and growing. - Next is @adam_birch_sculpts who carves the most amazing organically shaped pieces that the wood his woodcutting company comes across reveal to him. - Last up was @lynne_marie_eatwell who portrays the people she has come across on her travels in a way that makes them come alive and walk off the canvas with you. A woman of many trades, she taught her self welding over the past few years as well. The @noordhoekopenstudios can be visited till tomorrow end of day. Introducing DOS 2024 artist @claudia_dose. Claudia paints vibrant, intuitive, and spiritually infused paintings in acrylic and mixed media. Her biggest passion is sharing her positive, uplifting, and healing art with others and inspire them to access their inner world and their own hidden mystical story. Claudia was born and raised in Germany. Her early creative interests and talents brought her to study Art and Design at the Universities of Applied Science in Hamburg and Hannover successively, where she received a Bachelor's degree in Design. During those years of being taught in the Bauhaus style, she developed a fascination with the works of Klee and the way he uses art to explore the principles of life and his inner world. Intuitive painting is her favorite way to work. She also includes portraits and figurative elements in her body of work. Traveling solo for one year in Asia/India fueled her passion for color, rekindled her spiritual connection, and brought vibrant imagery and meaning to her paintings. Living and working in Australia as a mosaic artist for 5 years, she deepened her study of the oral tradition of Kashmir Shaivism, which she had been introduced to while traveling to Kashmir and during many subsequent longer stays in Kashmir. Her spiritual practice and ongoing study infuse her art with a mystical quality that invites the viewer to look inside and discover their spiritual connection in its many different forms. To commence l create a textured surface on which to work. Using a technique of acrylic glazes l gradually build up my image and finalise by highlighting the raised areas with stronger pigment and a pallet knife. 🎊 Visite d'atelier JISOOK MIN 🎊 A l’occasion des Ateliers Ouverts Jisook et Taegon (Kim) inaugurent leur atelier « La petite ferme Min Kim ». Ce qui étonne dans cet ancien commerce au rez-de-chaussée d’un immeuble c’est le défilé de basquettes, babouches et schloppe. Le store est légèrement baissé pour ne voir que le bas des passants allant à l’épicerie ou à la mosquée proche. C’est après avoir tous les deux bénéficié d’un atelier au Bastion que Jisook et Taegon ont acheté ce local. La partie arrière est l’espace bricolage-stockage où trône une scie plongeante ; le cadeau d’anniversaire de Jisook ! La partie avant est conçue comme un white cube et permet de mettre les travaux en espace pour voir s’ils « fonctionnent ». Lors de notre visite Jisook y présente quatre propositions. Au sol un wagon de petit train fait tourner sa maison natale en écho au paysage valsant perçu depuis le hublot de l’avion lors d’un retour en Corée du sud. Dans un coin un dessin au crayon reprend l’angle de la salle. Au mur des petites pièces de puzzle font se rencontrer deux personnages d’un tableau de Brugel initialement séparés par une foule. 🎊 Visite d'atelier LÉONTINE SOULIER 🎊 Lors de notre visite, Léontine est affairée à sa grande table à dessin dans l’appartement – atelier d’un immeuble de type Neuestadt à Schiltigheim. Ils sont sept à travailler dans l’Atelier du Parc et à croiser leurs univers doux, poétiques, colorés et sombres. L’atelier de Léontine est la seconde porte à gauche, après la cuisine. Il est baigné par la lumière de la fenêtre faisant dos à Anne-Lise (Mary) qui partage avec elle cette petite pièce au plafond haut et mouluré. Une imposante table centrale occupe presque tout l’espace. Anne-Lise y brode, Léontine y dessine. Elles aimeraient d’ailleurs croiser leurs pratiques... Sur les murs s’organisent des rayonnages regorgeant de fils colorés, de pastels, de feutres, d’encres et de collections de papiers. Dans ses dessins frais et colorés peuplés de personnages épousant les paysages, Léontine passe avec une facilité déconcertante de sujets enfantins à des questions graves comme le deuil ou le viol. Son best seller est son premier livre « Comment tu m’aimes ? ». Son héroïne en devenir est Sacha; la petite chasseuse de tempêtes. 🎊 Visite d'atelier GRETEL WEYER 🎊 Gretel est l’une des six artistes installés à Le Âtelier* depuis deux ans dans cet ancien hangar de carrossier au Port du Rhin qui ouvre pour la première fois ses portes au public. « Nous avons tout fait ici » : si l’espace est grand il a fallu construire des modules individuels et investir le volume sur deux niveaux. Gretel vient dans son atelier tous les jours sauf lorsqu’elle fait des dossiers ou qu’elle est en résidence. « Comme je fais de la céramique je suis sur plusieurs pièces en même temps pour émailler, cuir, sécher ou mouler. ». Ses créations sont issues d’un bestiaire fantastique qui lui est propre. Si ses références sont les contes, son interprétation est souvent dérangeante telle cette chaise à l’assise affaissée tendue de peau poilue avec des yeux sur le dossier. Il y a aussi ce panier d’où sortent une dizaine de têtes d’oies le bec ouvert. « Il faut que je lui fasse une caisse de stockage ». 'Scents of Our Time' is a project that sees Michael create scented candles in response to news events. The aim of the project is to get people thinking about the way they consume the news, as well as showcase how the craft of candle making can be used in a conceptual art context. Today is the first day of @openupsheffield which sees artists around the city open their studio spaces to the public. Her pieces are tactile with clean, pleasing lines and rich glaze combinations.
