Copepod lino print. Copepods are a group of small crustaceans found in nearly every freshwater and saltwater habitat. Copepods are tiny crustaceans known as the “insects of the sea.” The name “copepod” means oar-footed, and which comes from how they move through the water. They use their four to five pairs of legs and even their mouth and tail to swim. Copepods are everywhere in the ocean, including the water column. There are more copepods than any other multi-cellular organism. Climate change threatens to greatly affect copepods populations around the world. Warming, acidification and habitat loss can result in declines in copepod abundance, which has drastic consequences for the animals higher in the food web who rely on them. A copepod can eat up to 373,000 phytoplankton in one day. As an artist, I am fascinated by the convergence of traditional printmaking techniques with modern digital tools. My work is a reflection of this intersection, where I seamlessly blend age-old methods with contemporary technology to create visually captivating pieces. However, I am equally drawn to the endless possibilities offered by digital technology. Through digital manipulation, I am able to push the boundaries of traditional printmaking, experimenting with color, scale, and composition in ways that were previously unimaginable. The digital realm empowers me to explore new techniques, iterate quickly, and breathe new life into age-old processes. In my work, I seek to explore themes of identity, memory and the beautiful nostalgic path. On the other hand my two prints are completely digital , one is of jelly fish which defines that jellyfish go with the flow which means that they have quality of acceptance and faith , surrendering to the waves without struggling or sinking in emotionally challenging times, being able to stand without solidifying in difficult conditions, sensitivity to the water element, that is, emotionality. My another print is about scarfoldings which are important for the safety and accessibility for the work during construction but in Pakistan there is no proper system or facilities for the workers that if any accident occur who will be responsible for their life or for their loss. NEW! Framed in an upcycled frame, this linocut was hand carved and printed by the artist Ben Brockman. It is signed and numbered in an edition of 10. A tarantula hawk is a spider wasp (Pompilidae) that preys on tarantulas. Tarantula hawks belong to any of the many species in the genera Pepsis and Hemipepsis. They are one of the largest parasitoid wasps, using their sting to paralyze their prey before dragging it to a brood nest as living food; a single egg is laid on the prey, hatching to a larva which eats the still-living host. They are found on all continents other than Antarctica. Common species are up to 9 centimetres (3+1⁄2 in) long, making them among the largest of wasps, and have blue-black bodies and bright, rust-colored wings (other species have black wings with blue highlights). The vivid coloration found on their bodies, and especially wings, is an aposematism, advertising to potential predators the wasps’ ability to deliver a powerful sting. Their long legs have hooked claws for grappling with their victims. ‘William Blake Tree on Peckham Rye’ linocut edition of 10 74 cm x 101 cm. I am delivering this large scale linocut to Jane Newbery’s Gallery in Dulwich. I have only printed 2 so far in a silver grey although the edition is meant to be 10. Based on the tree that stands alone in the middle of Peckham Rye. Maybe once a year there such a thick fog that it almost disappears! I use this tree as a marker to walk the dog each morning. I walk around the tree and home again. On a foggy day it looms out of the mist as a ghostly form and I often wonder if this was William Blake’s vision. I made this linocut print last year from a projection from a video still. The projection distorted the image so that the tree becomes wider, wing like. The image took a few weeks to cut and has been printed in a silver grey on a large Somerset Satin 400gsm paper. It is the second impression from the block printed at Artichoke Print studio in Brixton. I wonder which way William Blake walked from Broadwick Street in Soho to Peckham Rye when he was 7 years old? Maybe he walked down Effra Road through Brixton following the River Effra, or he walked along the Bank of River Peck all the way to the Rye? Day Five of my research residency at U of T! Today I got an introduction to the letterpress studio at U of T. It’s such a cozy and inspiring space and I can wait to do some printing there next week. I even ordered myself some special paper! 😍 The rest of the afternoon I prepped paper for printing next week and then I headed out to do some gallery hopping around Knoxville. First I attended the 2024 U of T Capstone exhibition which features graduating fourth year BFAs, then I made my way to check out a group show of works from the painting faculty, and then ended at Gallery 1010 to check out some graduate work. Of course the evening wouldn’t be complete without going out for drinks with the grads and getting the hot goss. Finding a title for my works is always long , often matching the time of engraving the block. Nevertheless, once I’ve found it, it appears obvious to me.
