We recently visited Barbara at her salon. She is doing very well with her business and her family are all very healthy. She appreciated the support you all rendered and she is working very hard to sustain the business. Her twin son Ebra Wasswa is growing up very fast. He can walk and run. He even helps her mom sometimes 😉😂😂😂 (note he is just 2.5 years now). Her fiancé Kenneth is also doing well. Whenever he is not working at her cooking job at the school, he helps Barbara out. He is also learning how to make/plait hair hoping that he will be able to fully help out with the customers. We had lunch at this awesome restaurant last week. It’s truly an eye opening experience having to order or communicate with the staff who are deaf and mute. Hence the restaurant’s acronym DIB = Deaf In Business 😘 . The food here is yummy too with huge portion and good value for money. I’ve recently visited this awesome cafe, nestled in the quiet PJ Trade Centre. This cafe has been operating for more than 10 years and the staff in this cafe are deaf! Deaf-in-Business (DiB) Cafe is one of a kind and I’m amazed with the service rendered, the friendliness and cozy ambiance. . The main reason I was there was to collect my prize and also to donate plants for the Plant Swag (A Facebook community group I’m in) corner. Yes, they do have a few racks of plants available for adoption with a minimum purchase of RM10 from their cafe! . I’ve brought a dozen pots of various plants to donate and adopted 2 in return 😅 I’m also a happy camper to have won a elderflower plant with a ceramic pot in a contest by Plant Swag 🥰 . Today’s adventure: DIB (Deaf In Business) Restaurant in Damansara Perdana. It is an adventure because I have never been to Menara Gamuda, PJ Trade Center. In fact, I rarely even come to Damansara Perdana area, because there are just too many road forks and merges, waiting to sneak a missed junction into your trip so that your GPS has to work like they need to earn a spot in your mobile phone. Anyway, I arrived safely, and parked in the dimly lit basement carpark of the building, where most of the occupants only work weekdays. DIB restaurant, however, is a gem in the building. It is quiet on a Saturday afternoon, cozy ambiance perfect for a cup of tea. The staff are mostly deaf staff, all signs, and friendly. They are of different races, too. I go with their mushroom soup and garlic bread with Twinning’s Earl Grey tea. I enjoyed my meal because the soup did taste delicious with chunky bits of mushroom, and it’s Twinning tea so I have no complaint, and THE GARLIC SPREAD IS ON BOTH SIDE OF THE BREAD, toasted and served warm. Portion: suitable for #tableforone Don’t judge me. Imma go ask to doggie bag the leftover garlic bread. Excusez moi.
Been wanting to refresh my memory on @dibrestaurant's food because I've only had it once and it did make a good impression then. Finally had it recently and the good impression persists! Ordered a deep fried chicken chop (spicy) and the portion was huge! Nicely packed, it retained such crispness that I was amazed. The fried chicken batter was crisp, tasty and very spicy. The flavor is very close to a spicy ayam goreng Mcd but much, much better because the chicken was moist and tender. The mash was pretty standard and pleasant. The coleslaw didn't have onions which made me oh-so-happy. It was a lovely and satisfying meal, time to order more often!

Meet Kalungi Emmanuel (Deaf youth) who is passionate about Art and does painting. Emmanuel was not born Deaf, rather became Deaf at age of 3 years when he suffered severe malaria and with effect of the medication he was g iven then. Emmanuel was lucky to complete primary Education in 2010 and Senior four, Secondary Education in 2014 at Wakiso Secondary School for the Deaf. He went to Michelango College of Creative Art and Design in Kisubi where he studied a Diploma in the same. He started his passion of painting when he got a job with Riham in 2018 and later started working a lone with Capital of the payment he got from there. Due to the Pandemic, Emmanuel's work and only source of income was disrupted, he lost his outlet shop where he displays his Art work, when the Land Lord asked for the rent amounts for the months (March to June) when the Country was under lockdown and many businesses including his were not operational. In our appeal to uplift #DeafyouthinBusiness, and to embrace their #abilities while promoting #Deafyouthemployment, we ask you to support Emmanuel by buying his Art pieces so that he can be able to get a new outlet shop where he can display his work and to secure his income source. Can you believe this Deaf man from Kota, Rajasthan, India ended up adding MBA degree to his education portfolios( BSc. in Industrial Engineering & MS in Technological Entrepreneurship) ? I agree with Michele Obama's quote that "we have to use our education to contribute to our family, work, & society" here, there and everywhere! I'm glad I did MBA for two years because not only I have learned a lot about myself, my own mistakes, failures, fears and accomplishments, but also, I have done several projects :- the 20 minute talk show, Israel project, London/Belgium project and several others! I am indeed very grateful to my incredible parents and the whole extended family for investing in my education, I offer my deepest gratitude to dear friends, mentors, MBA colleagues, interpreters & the wonderful Deaf community for their trust and faith in my abilities during my time in Denver, Colorado. I'm both excited and nervous for the next chapter of my life. And, did you know, only "2% of the Deaf and Hard of hearing people in the world have access to education only" ?
