An extended family Longwood session from this past weekend!! I had so much fun with this family and we had a PERFECT overcast morning for our session! I love shooting in overcast weather, especially in the mornings because it gives us so much more flexibility! We don't have to worry about finding open shade or dodging weird shadows from the sun. The sky acts like a massive light diffuser!

If you have kids in your life, you know how it goes… the days are long but the years are short. It’s true. You feel like you’ve been playing the “you be the blue guy” game with your toddler for forever, or like you can’t possibly build another Magnatiles castle or watch another episode of Bluey, and then the next thing you know it’s done and you didn’t even realize it had ended. Then there are the things that are more visible - they stopped sucking their thumb or carrying around their favorite blankie or wearing the same dress up cape every day. At some point you finally realize “Oh, I guess that’s done.” Then they get older and they get their braces off, or they stop wearing dresses, or they get glasses, or you get a whiff of cologne you didn’t even know they owned, or you realize they stopped wearing that baseball hat every day. And you realize “Oh, that’s different.” The changes are subtle, but when they hit you (for me it’s often when I am sitting still or when I am looking back on old photos), they really hit you, don’t they?

I know you’ve seen the permit changes here on my feed (I shared some info about it a few weeks ago) and while sessions will be allowed going forward, there is a hard stop on them for a bit starting in September, and then a permit fee going into effect next year. The best family!! Doing sessions for friends is the BEST because I know the kids and their personalities so well and it's just a really fun time! Whenever I am doing a session, I am always trying to stay as consistent with the location and lighting (which is why I generally don't move around a location much during a session- I like to stick to one or two spots) The reason for this is if you are planning to get your photos printed and framed (like a gallery wall) then having that consistency with background colors and lighting will look the best! Same goes for designing albums. I want sessions to look as cohesive as possible!

This session!! Oh my goodness. I am really proud of the images in this session. I was fresh out of dealing with the emotions and hormone crash of a miscarriage and a little nervous. But let me tell you, working with sweet little Robbie was what my soul needed that day. He was perfect in every single way and his parents were just incredible to work with.
