This last weekend was full of maternity sessions and next week it’s newborns! It never ceases to amaze me how they arrive so perfectly formed and as their own unique individual. I was so in awe with each of my children. It’s truly the most magical miracle in this world. As newborns, they continue to grow and change so quickly. While I took endless photos of my babies when they were little, I was always the one behind the camera. There was always an excuse to not be in the photos. I was too tired, or insecure about my body, or uncomfortable in front of the camera. This is a natural feeling for mothers, especially for photographers, but I now regret not having these images to look back on with my babies. This is why it’s so important for me to capture these moments for other families. I get it – outdoor maternity sessions are a hot commodity because of the light, the beautiful landscape, and the scale of your portraits. However, studio maternity sessions offer so much variety; from bare bump portraits to dress, there are options galore for wardrobe. As a New Jersey maternity photographer, my studio is a such a nice option for families to consider as they navigate their location options for their maternity session. The Philadelphia and New Jersey area sees ALL the weather. Hot as Hades in the middle of August? Check. Freezing cold and windy in February? Yup. I’d reckon that few families plan their new baby with the timing of their maternity session in mind, but sometimes an outdoor option just really isn’t comfortable or possible. This session was too good not to share right away! I've been itching to find a grove of these flowering pear trees to use as the backdrop for a spring session for years. And thankfully when I asked this family if they were open to trying somewhere new, they were in! I just LOVE families that are down for an adventure.
