・何がキッカケだったか忘れてしまったけど、ギター弾きの恋のことを思い出して見てみた。短くて難しいこと何も考えなくても見れる良い映画。しばらくウディ アレン見てなかった。 ・アト６の放課後ポッドキャストでえらく盛り上がってたんだけど、映画は当然見てなくて情報ゼロなんでさっぱりわかんなかったんだけど、ポッドキャスト聴いた次の日が休みだったり観に行ける時間にやってたりしたので見に行ってみた。 普段なら映画館じゃ絶対見ないタイプの映画だけど、ないい映画だった気がする。大人の映画。 映画見たあとシネマハスラー&ポッドキャスト聴き直すと更に深みが増してもう一度見たくなった。 ・Masterpiece soundのPake。 ・難しすぎることで知られるFROM SOFTWAREは今までずっと避けてきたのですが、遂にSEKIROに手を出してしまった。おもしろいんだけどやはり難しすぎるんで、途中で心折れてしまうんじゃないかと思います。 ・Freshserviceの短パン。水着にもなるやつ。京都にFreshserviceのお店ができたので試着してから買えるようになった。うれしい。 ・アメリカの映画などでよく見るハブラシが入ったトラベルセット。past livingでも出てた。ハミガキ粉はもちろんコルゲート。次の出張の時に持っていこう。 ・ブギーバックから30年経ったらしく、それを記念？して出た「ぶぎ•ばく•ベイビー」。CDには4人のトークが収録されてて、そのトークの中でも言うてますが、ブギーバックのプロモにもトークが入ってました。 曲についての感想はまぁさておき、5月31日に武道館でLIFEの再現ライブをやるらしいのでなんとかして行かなければいけません。 ・BEAMSのワークパンツ。874っぽいシルエット。 ・Stop Making Senceのポスター。 #woodyallen #after6junction #a24 #masterpiecesound #pake #sekiro #fromsoftware #freshservice #sdp #小沢健二 #beams #stopmakingsence #talkingheads #jonathandemme

Talking Heads - Fear of Music While there already was a strong current of David Bryne’s anxiety and urban paranoia in previous Talking Heads albums, it had never completely taken center stage on one of their records before. But when the band was invited to play American bandstand on March of 1979 off their lone hit single, it caught up to them. They couldn’t jus be another band focused on making big singles. So with returning producer Brian Eno, they spent two days in Tina Weymouth and Chris Frantz’s apartment bashing out the bill of their next record, Fear of Music. Fear of Music is a fiercely tense record, but one that never shows away from being sharp—witted. Byrne’s characters on songs like the anti-rock mock trial “Electric Guitar,” the ominous, lurching head trip closer “Drugs,” and the choppy jangle of “Paper” grapple for slivers of control in a world that is increasingly constricting and hollowing out to reveal its artificiality and dependency on hollow promises. He even is afraid of breathing on “Air.” There’s no more audibly anxiety-fraught song than “Cities,” where Byrne sounds on the verge of a breakdown being pinballed around by the jitters of tightly-packed funk, whacked-out guitar noise, and plinking piano. Byrne bounces across continents and time, having to composite different Birminghams and Memphises together in the search of satisfaction because he’s so damn picky. It’s when the band are able to funnel all the nervous energy into a comprehensive groove that they’re at their best. Dadaist opener “I Zimbra,” the group’s first foray into African polyrhythms, explodes out thanks to Weymouth’s bass and stabs of guitar from guest Robert Fripp. The flip of a switch into biker bar swagger on “Memories Can’t Wait” feels like a revelation as Byrnec decides he can’t get the hell out of his own head. The album’s pinnacle is the immortal “Life During Wartime,” a frantic tour of a bombed-out New York where bullets whizz past abandoned clubs to an irresistibly ass-shaking rhythm. It’s one of Talking Heads’ all-time best, and a perfect encapsulation of the success they once again hit on Fear of Music.

Last night we revisited the amazing 1984 concert documentary Stop Making Sense on HBO Max. Talking Heads at their best! We love this movie and had a fun time reminiscing about going to the midnight showings at Waverly Theatre in the West Village and dancing with all the other Talking Heads fans. 40 years ago this week (wait, WHAT?) I saw Talking Heads perform twice, first on October 2 at the University of Lowell in Bellerica, Ma and then two days later in Providence, RI. I was lucky enough to see the Heads live four times: first at a revelatory show in Boston in 1980, then Saratoga in 1982 and then the two 1983 shows on the Speaking in Tongues tour, which turned out to be their last ever (the movie Stop Making Sense was filmed at the tour’s end in LA in December '83). For the U Lowell show, I had a press pass from my college newspaper, BU's The Daily Free Press, and spent the entire concert leaning against the stage, alternating between taking photos and dancing and singing along just feet from the band; if I recall correctly, my roommate Mike Mokrzycki was with me. The show was slightly marred by a generator fire midway through the first set which limited the band’s ability to present their innovative lighting show and kept us from seeing David Byrne dancing in his famous big suit. After a 20 minute break, they came back and, appropriately, lit into Burning Down the House before proceeding with a spirited show that differed slightly from the one on the hand-written setlist I later snagged from the stage. Two days later in Providence I saw the Speaking in Tongues show the way it was meant to be, but I’ll never forget the experience that night in that hot sweaty hockey arena so close to a band that mean so much to me. I recently took my wife and son to see the newly remastered version of Stop Making Sense. The movie has held up incredibly well - a beautifully filmed record of a special group of musicians performing with remarkable energy and joy.
