Yesterday was bath day. 🐾🛁🩵 Poor girl has to have two medicated baths a week for her itchiness.😣 I was so proud of Rowdy. She didn’t bark at anyone as we walked to the store or when we walked to the back of the store to the bathtub area!🙌🥹 She did, however, bark at 3 people on the way out.🫣 In her defense, she didn’t see them so they startled her. Rowdy was able to return her focus to me (I came prepared with turkey dogs 😉). She gets a solid ⭐️ ⭐️⭐️⭐️ for this @smithlandpetandgarden visit. Tomorrow, she starts Foundations training. And wouldn’t you know it, he tracked 8-12 deer.😳🦌. He was surprisingly quiet when he first saw them, but when we ran into them again they were running. Well, he was the Bear we’ve all come to know and mostly love- loud. 📢💥 I had a feeling we’d run into something today, so we busted out Bear’s BrontoBear Bandana. 🦕🐾 A bandana named after him from @jemnco. Our wonderful friends @samandtootie had one made for us with Bear’s name added.🤩 I’m working on the dogs walking skills and reactivity to wildlife. Parker is actually pretty great, his pain meds have made a world of difference. He’s still ornery but in his own lovable way. 🎉We are making progress!🎉 They’re getting the hang of group pics, I think.🤞 It’s Bear’s 2nd Adoptiversary.🥳🩵🎉 We first fostered Bear in 2018. He wasn’t here long, he got adopted quickly. Fast forward to 2021- @muttsandruntsrescue called to tell me he was found at a shelter a few hours away. We are forever thankful to the volunteer, @opaline_twist, who drove to pick him up.💚 Bear came back worse for wear- hundreds of ticks 🤢, cut up paw, couldn’t walk well, coat was a mess, chipped tooth. He was a mess. When Bear was first here, he was Edna’s first real foster playmate. When he got adopted, he didn’t want to leave. He fought the transport woman to get in the car and kept trying to come back inside. It always haunted me. It was my first year of fostering, I figured he’ll do great and I’ll get over my emotions. What I didn’t expect was Edna to be depressed about him leaving. She looked for him and when she couldn’t find him she wouldn’t come inside.🥺 So, when he came back we knew we wanted to try to keep him. Bear hugging me and crying made me really have a guilt trip. I’ve since learned he’s also just really dramatic.🎭 After his vet visits and learning what we were in for, we decided to go ahead and keep him. Our first foster fail. After Paso we headed towards Yosemite for two reasons- 1.dog dad has never been 2. And most importantly, we’ve been trying to get Parker a B.A.R.K Ranger tag from the National Park Service. It’s one of our bucket list items for him.🥰 But the roads to the valley were closed when we got there, I was checking every day too.😣 The only pic we got was from the tunnel view and the dogs aren’t great at group pics.🤦🏻♀️ Then Rowdy saw a corgi and lost it.🫤 Bear and Parker felt they needed to be annoying too. Bear didn’t know what was going on and Parker was just barking. Embarrassing. .5 ⭐️ for this outing. They tried? 🤷🏻♀️ Kinda thinking Parker did make it into the park so maybe he still earned it…. ______ Parker’s our forever senior foster from @muttsandruntsrescue. He couldn’t be safely adopted out because of behavioral issues. He earned squatter rights at our home. Our first stop, last weekend, was Paso Robles*. It’s wine country and close to Buster’s new family, the perfect place to meet.🍷 Dog grandma and I took Bear and Rowdy with us wine tasting at @osolibrewinery. Rowdy….was Rowdy. She was afraid and wanted to attack a sheep….statue. 🐑 🤦🏻♀️ Bear barked in support but had no idea what was going on. The woman serving us was patient and sweet, she immediately won Bear over.🙌 It helps that he’s a huge ham.🥰 Rowdy stayed on guard but more quiet and was able to settle down a little. They don’t do well with pictures yet.🙄 Overall, they get 1.5 ⭐️ this outing. I need to take them out more but have some mental hangups walking them around locally- stray dogs, escaping dogs,etc. Parker stayed with Buster and dog dad. Parker gets all excited on outings, he escaped from the hotel room and ran full sprint up and down the hall, according to dog dad.😮😂 Unfortunately, no video. We stopped at @ettopastificio to grab Parker some pasta for his raffle basket I’m working on. We found the perfect pasta.🐕 But we had to use it for one night’s dinner because our original plan didn’t work out.🤦🏻♀️ *We were originally going to meet Buster’s mom halfway. Dog grandma reminded me of my birthday being that weekend and wanted to do something. ✨Former Foster Friday✨ Lucy💕 This is Lucy’s new life, the life we envisioned for her.💖 We couldn’t have hoped for anything better. Proof of life post.🙃 It’s bath week- Parker got groomed on Tuesday, the girls today, Bear and Buster tomorrow.🛁 🧼 Buster’s been keeping the dogs on their toes. Rowdy is his main go-to. They play nonstop. She tries to “mother” him by licking his ears, grooming him, or doing little nibbles- all behaviors Lucy and Edna did to her, but Buster doesn’t sit still long enough. 😂 Bear is still jealous, then tries to play by yelling in Buster’s face and scaring him.🤦🏻♀️ Lucy. Well, we don’t learn.🤦🏻♀️ Meet Little Parker. Aka Buster. A 9wk old Shih Tzu mix(?) and what looks like a Boston terrier. 🐾❤️🔥 He came to us about midnight last night. We’re hopefully🤞a temporary stay for the little guy. He was surrendered to the rescue after his owners couldn’t sell him, he was the last in his litter.😏 They said it was an “accidental litter”.🙄 They didn’t vaccinate or deworm him. I’m guessing they sold his littermates like that.😣 Thankfully, he has no fleas or ticks. We’ll get him started on his health stuff. I always start training the moment they arrive. Nothing too intense but just to get a foundation started for them. She even took treats from the staff and didn’t bark at them.🙌 She did bark at a customer with a dog, and peed in the store 😏 but I’ll still take it.🌟 Lucy.💕 Oh Lucy. She loves to play statue. She. Will. Not. Budge. Nick had to lift her into the tub. After she was finished, I tried taking her around the store but she played statue again. The manager helped lure her out of one of the aisles. Busy day- Lucy&Rowdy got their vaccines 💉 finally😅. Then Bear&Rowdy started obedience classes.💪 🧠 ✏️🧑🏫📓 Lucy didn’t have to be carried today!🙌 Bear did better than expected at training.🌟 Rowdy caused some scenes.🤦🏻♀️ But that’s why we’re there. Nail day💅 Getting the girls caught up on their regular care.😅 We took them to Bear’s groomer @grooming.by.red at @doggonecrazypetsalon for their mani/pedi. Lucy (borrowing Edna’s gear) was a her statuesque self. But she has no problem having her nails clipped.🌟 Rowdy, (using Parker’s gear) a little more confident, had trouble sitting still for a pic. She was mad at us but also has no problems getting her nails did.👏 Then, on the way home, she puked in my car.😣 It’s been a long time since she’s done that. Next up: their vaccines. 💉 We never anticipated having the girls this long. There’s an animal crisis and adoptions are extremely low. 🎉ROWDY’S ONE YEAR RESCUE-VERSARY!🎉 We took the girls to @bottleshockwineandbrew lPup Night to celebrate their rescue (and also socialize them and expose them to new environments). The girls did as well as can be expected.🙃 They loved their complementary barkuterie board from @bottleshockwineandbrew. 🧀 🐾🍷 The girls aren’t the best at pics so blurry pics all around.🥂 Lucy has anxieties so she had issues calming down. She let people greet her and love on her.🥰 She isn’t aggressive, loud, or destructive in public. She just has issues settling and just being. Rowdy. Oh Rowdy.🫣 She acts like she’s been there before. Jumped on the sofas and laid down like she owned the place. Then barked and lunged at the staff who tried to greet her. ✨Foster Friday✨ Lucy. We took Lucy out for a beauty day today. She got her nails did at @doggonecrazypetsalon. 💅 Of course she wouldn’t pose in front of their cute photo setup. Then she had to be lifted into the car because…who knows?💖 Then we took her to @selfservepetspa to bathe her. We skipped a month.🫣 A woman was loving on Lucy and put her on FaceTime to show her friend.🥰 Then Lucy played statue and would not move, she knew what was coming.🛁 I had to pull her to the bathtub section and kinda lift her into the tub.😅 Once she’s in she does great. ✨Rowdy✨ She’s the happiest dog….once you get to know her.🥰 Every time she sees us, she greets us with the “we just got home” enthusiasm. Even if it’s just waking up. She’s a special girl. Rowdy is incredibly smart and keeps us on our toes. Playful, loving, happy little dog. She’s still working on leash manners. Also working on her kleptomania.🤦🏻♀️ It takes her an extremely long time to open up to people. She’s cautious and reserved in unknown surroundings. The bond she has with Lucy is like nothing we’ve ever seen.💗 Until we saw Bear’s bond with her.🤣 She’s the dog all the dogs love. I’d really love if the girls could stay together.🤞There’s something truly special between them. However, interest has been extremely low, adoptions are the slowest they’ve ever been, and we’ll need to start considering Lucy’s needs more. ✨Lucy✨A loyal & loving girl looking for her forever home.💗 Lucy’s had more energy the past few months. She romps, plays, runs around like a gazelle. She gets along with the dogs but, aside from Rowdy, doesn’t interact much with them or they with her. She tries to play with them.😔 They just don’t get her. She’s not bothered by it. She’d rather be cozied up with her person. She uses the doggy steps.🤷🏻♀️ She’ll come whenever you call any dogs’ name. If she had a doggy door her size, she’d use it. Lucy’s kind of aloof. She’s an odd one. She’ll get spooked by something random and not move. She’s stubborn. We have to be prepared to carry her or have good treats when walking her if she decides to play statue. She does great on a leash otherwise. Her worst traits are her stubbornness and eating dirt and um other stuff I’d rather she didn’t eat. 🤢 Other than that, she’s a very good girl. Probably one of the easiest dogs we’ve had. She deserves to be pampered, loved, and spoiled. Our hope for her is to be in a home with less dogs, more carpet and rugs, where she gets all the attention her heart desires. On the 25th it will be ONE year since we’ve found her and Rowdy. We’ve had less than a handful of inquiries for them. Sadly, we’ll probably have to pull the plug and adopt the girls out separately.😔 I know they’ll be okay, it just hurts to think about. Lucy’s older though and I want her to have more one on one time with a family. She’s also getting severely more anxious in a crate, copying Moose’s behaviors. ✨B.A.R.K- Be a Random Act of Kindness✨ Last week, we received a surprise package from one of our faves, @theplussizepooch . I was confused and thought I may have drunk ordered something.🫣🍷🤐 It was a B.A.R.K gift. The IG community continues to surprise and support us. We’re extremely appreciative.🥹💗💫 Someone reached out to her and asked if anyone could use a bit of extra Christmas. Knowing we’ve had a crazy time lately, she thought of us. Thank you to that stranger and @theplussizepooch.🎄🤍🐾 I had a lot of “props” for my dogs before fostering, but after, I realized how vital they are. Dogs don’t *need* stuff but they do get cold. They do like their bandanas and bows and strut when they wear them. It also helps promote them for adoption.✨🐾🤍 The girls are still difficult and awkward to photograph.🙃 Parker waits patiently, he also gets the treat from the packages. 💋 🎅🏻 Dear Santa- From Lucy. Lucy’s a 7-9yr old Doberman looking for her forever family. She’s house-trained, crate trained, kind of knows commands, kind of walks well on a leash. She can get spooked by random things and will become stubborn and not move. Has issues with doors-going through them. I can’t explain Lucy, she’s a weirdo. Super affectionate, we love her to bits, but she’s not always the brightest bulb. She’ll try her absolute heart out though. She’s gotten more energy the last several months. I think her supplements and food helped her enormously. Lucy’s a funny girl. She just wants love. We’ve been having trouble placing her with Rowdy. Rowdy’s the only one who *gets* Lucy. But it’s probably time we have to consider adopting them out separately.😔 I know they’ll do well. We had a great applicant in MI for Lucy, but I’d rather try locally first. 🌧Sweater weather🌧 What you’ve missed on Real Housedogs of Bakersfield: California cold = anything below 70°.😂 Dog grandma busted out sweaters and jackets and dressed 5 out of 6 dogs. She bought Parker and Lucy Christmas sweaters. Sorry, Moose 🙁 but he has a double coat so we think he’ll be fine. We were shocked Parker let grandma put his sweater on and even pick him up!🙌 Lucy loves her Christmas sweater and takes wearing it very seriously.🤷🏻♀️ Edna and Bear wear their sweaters and hoodies from @theplussizepooch. Rowdy has been sporting some jackets we’ve had but they don’t completely cover her long body.😂 She and Bear have been sneaking into our bed at night and even going under the bedding, so we know they’re cold. We doubled up Rowdy with one of Parker’s fleece and she’s happy. She doesn’t like any dog to mess with her attire. How she’s changed.🤔 We put a heating pad for Bear and Rowdy last night. They loved it and slept in. So, everyone is staying warm and cozy.🤗 Moose is still recovering from his neuter.❤️🩹 We haven’t found another home to take him and because of issues with our own dogs we have to crate and rotate the dogs. Moose doesn’t do well with the crate, so we’re really hoping someone comes along to take him in.🤞 Parker’s annual exam is coming up. He’s been having some odd behaviors we need to ask the vet about to see if we should be concerned or if it’s old age. It’ll be 3 years, at the of the month, that he was rescued as a stray in the park. ✨Woman Crush Wednesday✨ Lucy&Rowdy. Today was bath day.🛁 Lucy’s face says how they feel about that.😒 Lucy’s always ready for an outing. Until we get there.🤷🏻♀️ Our new dogsitter met us to help bathe the girls. Lucy had to be carried out of the car and also carried into the tub.😏👑💗 Rowdy was EAGER to go!🙌. She did bark and react when our dogsitter tried to help her out of the car but she did let him bathe her.🥹 We’ve been working on her fear of cars/carsickness, fear of leaving,fear of new people. Basically just building her confidence. Weekly daycare is already helping. She’s making progress on ALL marks.👏 Progress isn’t linear. We work at the behaviors we desire in the dogs everyday. It’s not always easy or fun but it IS ALWAYS worth it. (I’m mostly just trying to remind myself with this. 📣 This week’s Dog of the Week (yeah, I’m doing that now, we have too many dogs 🫣) goes to 🥁 LUCY!!!!! Lucy was the bestest girl this week. She doesn’t bark when we have workers or visitors over. She didn’t eat any 💩 and did her best not to eat any dirt.👏 Lucy struggles a little more than average learning commands but she tries her hardest.😍 This week she was doing “kennel” like a champ and her “downs” were on point!🥰 Since I just decided to do Dog of the Week yesterday, I’m not sure what it entails. Lucy does love cuddles and snuggles and I’m usually horrible at staying still. So for her prize, I’ll give her a few one on one cuddle times. The dogs got to meet their Uncle Brian this week.😍 He immediately spoiled them with a bag full of goodies and a box filled with treats which always comes in very handy.❤️🤗 🧸🦴🍪 The only current dog he’s met before is Edna. After living the foster mom life, he’s noticed how much she’s changed. Edna was afraid of people, especially men, when we first got her. So, he was very surprised when she greeted him. He won her over with giving her butt scratchies, they’re her fave.🥰 Thats why she has a #butttree. Bear & Lucy introduced him to whore-offs.💖🤨 Bear also showed off his vocals with his infamous death howls.🤦🏻♀️ Rowdy lived up to her name. She was afraid and barking at him but still loved her toys and ran off with them. Uncle Brian eventually won her over though!🙌She took treats from him and would go up to him to get pets. It took a couple days #ParkerProgress. Speaking of Parker, Parker allowed Uncle B to pet him. However he did snap but injuries were avoided.👏 Parker would get upset but would return again for some pets. Parker’s adorable face makes fools of us all. It’s hard to not want to cuddle him.🫣 Once again, we’re shocked yet extremely thankful people visit us knowing we have so many dogs. The dogs are all a work in progress and it helps immensely to have family and friends try to understand their challenges. Their visits help us gauge the dogs different reactions and reassess what needs to be worked on.
