It’s hard to explain how happy I am right now at chi’s moment as I sit on a bench deep in the woods I love so much. I’m back. But this time I’m on a different trail. I drove from my house up fox hollow road to the trailhead. The Dillard trail is fairly flat and easy to navigate. No extreme uphill and downhill. This trail overlooks the Amazon headwaters trail that I usually trekked on. But it’s mostly uphill and downhill and the trail is super uneven in parts. The doctor wanted me to try one more thing before recommending surgery on my feet. Well she kind of did. She recommended I wear special insoles for flat feet and see if that works for me. She also suggested I practice walking with my feet forward a but, like walking on a tight rope. I immediately got the special insoles. And oh wow! What a difference they make. I have two sets now, one is different than the other. And they do take getting used to. I felt as if I was walking on lumps or rocks at first. But I got used to them quickly. My first test was when we were in Crescent City recently. I was able to walk further sigh minimal pain. I still wear the foot and ankle sleeves as well. I’ve missed the woods so much. Good thing there were lots of trees up at the cAbin. So I figured I’d navigate the easier trail where it stays shady and cool even in warm days. I have no problem taking my time. By the way, ad a result of all this, the doctor now recommends physical therapy!! I might be able to completely avoid surgery as long as I’m careful and do all the stuff I’m supposed to do! Yay! Think happy thoughts! No I’ll never fly but if I can walk a ways with no issues, I’m happy. On the Dillard Trail. #eugparks

First there was sunshine, then there was rain, then there was rain and sunshine, and then there was rain without sunshine. Then it rained above the woods canopy, and I could hear it but barely feel it. Then it rained some more. Today it just rained. All day long. Yesterday I spotted FOUR Calypso Orchids on the woods trail! I was so excited. I only knew for sure where to look for one. I found two in the same general area and then two more in other areas. They’re not that easy to spot. You kind of have to look for them. They’re delicate and beautiful, and they’re also called “fairy orchids.” I also found the Star Gazers, and the Camus flowers have showed up everywhere. I just love them. They’re so delicate. Also, the Oregon fawn Lillies are bravely hanging on through all the rain storms, and so are the trilliums. The trilliums are all different shades of pink with new white ones popping up all the time. It’s a nature paradise here right now, and I’m sure there rain helps. The mighty little Amazon Creek rages and storms. I think it’s a little too early for the wild Irises though. I had seen one, but I haven’t seen any more. It’s hard to explain how my daily journeys through the woods and even up the street by the creek relieve any stress I might feel. I always feel better when I’m out there. Oh and there’s a tiny rainbow stretched across my favorite tree in the woods in the photo I took. If you look at it just right, you can almost see letters, like a cryptic message of some kind, which of course I can’t read. That’s the only rainbow I’ve seen so far. #eugparks

Wow I’m totally bummed out and sad. Someone deliberately stole the fairy house in the woods! It’s been in there for five years and now it’s gone. For a fleeting Moment I thought perhaps the lady who put it there might’ve taken it out temporary early or something. But I can tell it was pulled out in a not so nice way. All the trinkets remain but the fairy house is gone. Who would do such a thing? What is wrong with people? The magic of the woods is real. Today I attended four Zoom meetings!! Two were my small group writing meetings, one was a class through story summit called script to screen which was super inspirational and one was for a music event I’m helping out with. Three were back to back from 4 through 8pm. I’m happy to say it all worked out beautifully because I attended one and a half meetings while walking in the woods via my iPhone! It’s not the same as a computer, bu I can still listen and chime in and even chat. Luckily I get cell service in the woods trails I traverse and zoom works even with one or two bars. I heard some wonderful stories read out loud, and participated on a cool class. I walked to the top of the hill down the Dillard trail and back the aka on creek headwaters trail again. On Monday, it was warm enough to wear my light jacket. As I journeyed up the trail, I saw what looked like a tie dye hat hanging from a tree branch. When I got closer, I noticed it was… hey my tie dye gaiter! Yes it was definitely mine! I must’ve dropped it while fumbling through my pocket the night before searching for my gloves. That was when I walked further than usual towards the summit. How nice of someone to hang it on a branch so I could see it. Today a couple I’ve seen on the trail many times asked how my favorite tree was. I was transported back to my childhood and my favorite tree at the greens in golden gate park. I used to climb my favorite tree and sit amid the boughs. How Did these people them know I have a favorite Douglas fir tree? Maybe they saw me leaning against the tree. I said my tree was fine hehe.
