///Texas Centennial’s Hall of Negro Life “Into Bondage” was one panel of a four-panel mural commissioned for the Hall of Negro Life built for the 1936 Texas Centennial in Fair Park. The artist, Aaron Douglas, was a notable painter and a major figure in the Harlem Renaissance. The complex history of how the Hall of Negro Life came into being at the Texas Centennial was detailed by former Chief Curator of Fair Park’s African American Museum Phillip Collins at a presentation at the Dallas Museum of Art on February 9, 2024. The Aaron Douglas painting, part of the permanent collection of The National Gallery of Art, was featured in the DMA’s recent Afro-Atlantic Histories exhibit. Two of the four panels were preserved before this building and some others were destroyed after the Texas Centennial Exposition closed. Check out his fantastic work #aarondouglas. Après une longue route et un petit arrêt à Austin, nous voilà donc arrivés dans la ville de Dallas au Texas!! Une des expériences que nous voulions absolument vivre dans notre voyage au États-Unis était d’aller voir du Football Américain! Tout un évènement!! La journée du match, des milliers de personnes s’identifient une équipe et prennent possession de la place! Les rues barrées, les tailgates, les bars, le stade et des gens à perte de vue!! On comprend vite que c’est plus qu’un match de football, c’est une tradition, une culture!! Ensuite, nous avons été voir la plus grande sculpture de bronze au monde!! Nous avons adoré, c’est très impressionant!! Le Fair Park tant qu’à lui était spécial, mais décevant étant donnée que nous n’étions pas dans la saison des fêtes foraines!! Ces dernières attirent plus de 3 millions de personnes chaque année!! Le Texas a été pour nous une superbe découverte et un bel avant goût pour un futur road trip! Dance Day 30 🍀 I have to revisit one of my favorite A-Dance-A-Day from March 2019. This clips is from a dance that I did at the North Texas Irish Festival 2019. I love this one because it is one of the uncommon symmetrical dances that I’ve recorded. Symmetrical meaning that I do the same step on both sides; alternating feet. I don’t do this often and I really need to start doing it again (and also practice more steps on the left foot)! I think this was also one of my first dances on this type of floor and I like how clean it sounds! I remember how much fun I was having and how my steps came easy to me! I had many favorite dance days from last year. This one tops them. Dance Day 12 I was dancing to another reel at NTIF at the O’Flaherty Irish Music Retreat booth! It’s always a fun place to be. People can dance and play tunes at the session. I believe they’re always in a great spot at the festival because it’s near an entrance where people enter the building from the food trucks. The large outdoor stage is in that direction too.
