Qui me demande si j'ai fait un graphe de mes résultats de chaînes légères (j'ai un myélome à chaînes légères kappa). La réponse est non. Depuis 7 ans je me contente des comptes-rendus rédigés par mon hémato à la suite de mes contrôles semestriels, toujours encourageants, sans m'être intéressée plus que ça à un suivi attentif de mes résultats biologiques. A la suite de cette question je débute un suivi détaillé et fait ce fameux graphe. Qui montre une augmentation de mes chaînes légères tout en restant dans les normes. Récidive par un nodule avec augmentation concomitante des chaînes légères : n'ai-je donc pas un marqueur de suivi de la maladie ? A list of things I am excited for once I have the time and energy to do them, while working remotely: 1. Writing. I want to get back to writing my blog. I am not sure which form that will take, probably not a travel blog like it was. But definitely want to do more writing there. But also writing for publications. I have had multiple opportunities I have had to turn down the last few years to write things I would have loved to write, but I just haven’t had the energy. 2. Podcast. Remember that time @byalysonshelton gave me a huge opportunity to start my own podcast with @femmeoncollective and I just haven’t had any time or energy to do the next episode? Yeah, I really want to do that. So if you are still interested in breaking down some words with me, come August, I am ready to get that going. Maybe my first episode I do when I get it started should be deconstructing the word teacher, who’s with me? 3. Cooking and baking. Of course I do this already, but mostly on weekends. Week days I throw things together that work but I miss having the energy to try new recipes and make delicious foods. The other day I bought these amazing tempeh burgers and I threw together some burger buns from scratch, I miss doing that more. 4. Being creative. I know writing and podcast fall under those already. But I feel like work, capitalism, the patriarchy… all of it has fizzled out my spark of creativity. I want to be creative again. Find different ways of being creative. 5. Yoga. I am sort of back at doing yoga regularly, but not really. I was starting to get in the habit of doing it when I got home from work but most days my body can barely move (I bike or walk to work every day, so at least I get my movement in), and I save my energy for throwing together dinner, because that is the choice I make. I want to do yoga in the mornings, after a slow morning with coffee and a book. I am sure there are other things that I am looking forward to having the energy and time for, part two coming maybe. I know that fatigue will still hit me, and that remote work isn’t the cure all, but I am ready to live life at a different pace. I am ready for work to not consume all my energy /•/

Hello everyone, I’m still here in the background somewhere just taking a break and recharging. Pic of latest visit to The Christie Hospital for tests for hubby ( 2 weeks wait for results) fingers crossed all is satisfactory as we go away in May for a month!!!!! I cannot bloody wait 🏖️☀️ but in the meantime he is poorly after his Covid jab 😡 I don’t know how you all feel about them, or if you’ve stopped having them but he has no choice and then suffers badly after. I hate them!! I feel so helpless & upset at him having to go through the after effects…. I mean what the hell is in them to make him so ill???? Is having Cancer not bad enough??? But he never stops fighting, he finds the strength to carry on and has so much willpower. It’s been One year & 3 months since my Stem Cell Transplant to battle #multiplemyeloma, & now I get to go back & volunteer on that same floor! It has been such an incredible experience to go through the training so that I can visit & hopefully encourage other MM patients!! I’ve already got so many amazing stories that I can’t wait to share, but last week was a cool one. When I walked into Joe Morgan’s room, so many worlds converged. Only a divine plan does something so incredible & special. Allan, The head chaplain, had already told me I needed to meet this guy named Joe, but I had no idea how awesome it was going to be. Joe and his wife Liz are from Minden, La. Where my sister Sara lives. I had talked with Liz back in the summer, after Joe’s diagnosis, but I didn’t know he was in the hospital in Dallas, with my same doctor no doubt! She told me that her sister-in-law is my friend & fellow #Freak/cancer warrior Pam Nelson. Needless to say, we all talked a while & prayed together for Joe & that God would continue to use all Our stories for his glory. It was so incredible. Pray for Joe, along with my 4 other new friends that I was able To visit with as well. I can’t wait to get back up there this week. I'll be speaking on Radio Ulster's Good Morning Ulster tomorrow (Monday) bright and early at 7.50am on this subject, as well as touching on how reading and writing is helping me deal with my illness over the past while. On the health front, I'm doing well apart from the incredible fatigue which is simply too much to fight off and I just have to give in and sleep. I'm working today on my final edits of Maybe This Christmas which has been a struggle as all I want to do is snooze! I can't even say it's like being tired. It's an intense physical fight and SO impossible to ignore so I'm napping on and off which is frustrating but a big part of the condition and the chemo. Thankfully my medical team did thorough blood tests to make sure I've no heart complications causing the fatigue and breathlessness that comes with it so that was a huge relief to find that out on Wednesday at my monthly consultation 🙏 On a somewhat, some might say perhaps much more superficial level, I'm noticing changes in my appearance too which I can see in this pic, where the medication is bloating me especially around the face. I'm not losing my hair yet, but that will happen with the stem cell transplant in September and I make no apologies for admitting that I'm not looking forward to that but in the wider scheme of things it's not the end of the world and it will grow back!! I'm now on cycle 2 of my 6 month chemo plan, and every milestone is worth celebrating so I was delighted to mark that off the calendar! Thank you for all the good wishes. Day 16 here at the Harris. I think I have less than 2 weeks and 1 Bone Marrow Biopsy left .😳 Today was a good day other than getting another blood transfusion. I think I have had 4. Where does the blood go? Anyway, we checked for leaks. After I get released there will be some outpatient visits. It may be a couple of months or so before I can return to work. I could possibly have another hospital stay. Hopefully not, but I’m prepared. I’m feeling great! Thank you so much for the prayers and good thoughts. I need those prayers. I’m relying heavily on God to pull me through this.

We have this one life to live, and we have to take advantage of the time we have left on this earth wisely. I stayed on a job so long that I allowed the unhealthy working environment to affect my wellness, mental, and sometimes my outward expression. Not until I had to have a 2nd bone marrow biopsy for my multiple myeloma in 6 months that I headed to the wake-up call. It was time to leave the job I loved. We need to leave people, places, and things that we don't have control over that are harmful to us. We owe it to ourselves and our loved ones to return home as our best selves. The day I received a new job offer, I began to feel a heavy burden lifted, I was lighter and glowing again 🥰. I was happier that the chapter was ending. God opened a door that allows me to now work from home, a healthy environment, and take care of myself on this new health journey. Don't stay too long, my friend. Selfcare, mental health, and wellness are vital. Put yourself first. You can leave. You have everything you need to leap. Tap into the warrior you are!!! It's been sunny, dry, & 50-80° since the last snow with some random rain mixed in. It rained hard and loud yesterday afternoon and then again overnight. It's that time again-annual full body MRI You'd think I'd be used to by now after 12 and half years of playing the cancer game, but the scanxiety has been building up from the moment the appointment came through. I don't have a clinic appointment for over a week so it'll definitely get worse (sorry family, I know you'll get the brunt of my grumpiness). One thing I have learnt is that no amount of mindfulness or meditation is going to help. The only thing that works is to keep distracted, as busy as possible and waiting until I'm absolutely exhausted before going to bed. That and knowing I'll feel relieved once I get the report. Whilst I reassure myself that my bloods have been relatively stable since my transplant, for me, blood tests don't provide all the answers. I have annual full body scans as we've learnt from past experience that I tend to get significant bone damage and disease before it shows up in my blood rests. The first time was an 11cm tumour in my sternum, which resulted in repeated fractures, difficulty picking up my baby, the end of my clinical career and chronic pain to this day. The next time round, the knee damage (both knees) meant I had pain on walking (still do sometimes) and an end to running, skiing and other sports I love. My light chain blood markers didn't even reach the minimum levels needed to get onto a clinical trial, and I definitely wasn't going to wait until they did. We now scan regularly in the hope we catch the next episode early and prevent more holes in bones. Grateful to my Haematologist and healthcare team for being so vigilant and so brilliant at offering personalised care. 📿 New necklace, who dis lol. I started chemo again on Thursday but then we realized that my incision had some leakage so I was given a vac (the vac pump is what’s hanging around my neck) to help prevent infection. Antibiotics prescribed + I have to stop chemo for a week to be safe. On another note, check out the funky cane my mom hooked me up with.🦋 Oh and I got my 46 staples out!

“Life is like a box of chocolates. You never know what you’re gonna get.” The past few weeks have never rang truer! While there has been a lot of good going on, there was also a lot of not so good news. We often only share the good, but believe me, EVERYONE has life stuff going on. On Tues April 2nd, while in Iowa having a great time teaching and visiting friends, I found out that I will be caregiver once again this June for my husband due to a major procedure to get him back into remission from cancer. I also found out that day I needed to get surgery, and none other than on the day that I was supposed to celebrate a huge milestone in my career. Long story short, we are all HUMANS first, and life is gonna happen. Let the resilience that we build as musicians help us navigate those ups and downs in life, and vice versa. In the end, be grateful, live your best life, and don’t forget to do all the things that bring you joy in life, because life is too damn short!
