* BOEKVERFILMING IN 1 WEEK * Het was een heuse ‘Het zusje van’-week: namelijk een speciale, supersnelle editie van Van Boek naar Doek. Op maandagochtend gaf ik op het Ichthus College Dronten om 9:00 de kick-off over dit boek & scenarioschrijven en vandaag (vrijdagochtend) was al de première van de boekverfilmingen van de leerlingen in de bioscoop! 😳🤩 Op maandagmiddag schreven ze hun scripts. Die ik dinsdagochtend las (19 stuks!) en van feedback voorzag. Daarna volgden ze workshops acteren, filmtechnieken & monteren én filmden & monteerden ze hun eigen film! Donderdag rond 17:00 had ik 24 films in mijn mail 😱 Wát een bijzondere editie was dit. Ik vond het een geweldige uitdaging om dit (sowieso al leuke) project uit te testen in deze Bruisweek in Dronten. Wat mij betreft is het helemaal geslaagd! De films zijn echt goed geworden. Ik ben trots op de creativiteit van deze 4 klassen en kijk ernaar uit om dit nog een keer te doen zo (volgend schooljaar waarschijnlijk) 🙏 Een foto mochten we niet maken ivm privacy, daarom poseerde ik even voor de kluisjes op het @ichthus_college_dronten die in zeker 9 films voorbijkwamen 🥰 PS. I seem to have taken a deep dive into black and white in the last few days. I blame the Netflix series #Ripley which has kept me company as I’ve been editing. Wow! If you want inspiration for framing, light & grading do give it a watch. Plus there’s the cat … that cat deserves an Oscar! I’ve worked on a couple of short films recently that are going to be black and white - one completely & the other moves into black & white for certain scenes and I often do my BTS work in black & white (like my last few posts). This was last Sunday … our last day of shooting. Today I’m back to my roots to shoot some youth theatre! Happy Sunday all.
So last weekend we wrapped on the feature film I’ve been working doing #stills on for more than a year. #callingthetune is a love story spanning two generations, set against the backdrop of WW2. It has been such a privilege to join the talented cast & crew on @rogernharding’s ambitious production for Two Hats Films & @wartime_productions. From the muddy trenches to cold dark nights blowing up bridges & intimate bedroom scenes - I’ve loved every minute. Now the long wait whilst the edit is done and the search for new films to work on! It’s nice to see these two side by side. Editing photos more often than not involves giving them a #grade or a look that looks cinematic and reflects the feel of the film. There’s much discussion in my network of #filmstillsphotographers about grading & it’s something I love learning more about. The top image is from @rogernharding #callingthetune & has a slightly muted feel to reflect its WW2 setting. The bottom image of @_katcooper in the short film by @renecide #YoursSincerely - it’s more contemporary, but at the same time has an ‘otherworldly’ element to the story which these soft tones help create. It's the closest thing we have to wandering around a video store, and when I was a kid there was nothing I liked more than wandering around a video store. I've loved movies for as long as I can remember. When I realized I could actually make them, it was like a switch flipped in my head, and just a few months later I had moved to Los Angeles to make that dream a reality. It took ten years, but now here we are! This Sucks is my first feature, but it won't be my last. I'd thank everyone who helped me bring this movie to life, but I'm pretty sure Instagram would cut me off because there are just so many of you. Y'all know who you are, though.
