I keep seeing this post of about Final Destination 6 happening with a cruise chip being used as a photo and it’s ONLY HALF TRUE. He began his career in 1998, but had his first major break in 2000, with the Nickelodeon movie “Snow Day”, alongside legends like Chevy Chase. In 2003, he’d be blessed with the role of lottery winning douchebag Evan Lewis in the horror movie, Final Destination 2. He’d continue his horror run with I’ll Always Know What You Did Last Summer and Aliens vs Predator: Requiem. The Final Destination (2009) AKA Final Destination 4 Starring: Bobby Campo, Shantel VanSanten, Mykelti Williamson 🌕🌕🌑🌑🌑 The Blurb: “While enjoying a day at the track, Nick O’Bannon has a horrific premonition of him and his friends dying in a freak race-car accident at the speedway where they’re enjoying an afternoon race. Mere seconds before the vision comes true, he manages to convince his friends and several other parties to leave. Although they cheat death then, the survivors each begin to meet a grisly end, and Nick attempts to find a way to escape a similar fate and cheat death.” The Review: One would think the fourth film in a franchise as successful and as positively-received (at least by fans) as Final Destination would flourish, taking its namesake and running with it to create another successful, memorable, fine sequel within the franchise. What one wouldn’t think or expect would be for said fourth film to be the most commercially successful while also being heinously awful. Sadly, there’s no other way to put it - this movie is bad. The initial inciting incident isn’t one of most people’s everyday fears; the actions and decisions characters make are stereotypical almost to the point of parody; the lead actor (whom I loved in the Scream series) is directed to have about as much personality as Bella Swan in the first Twilight film; CGI is extremely overused and makes the film feel cheap no matter how seriously it attempts to treat some situations. I wish I could say more positive things about this movie. The only likeable character, George, had an extremely weak ending and the only extremely fun scene that got me on the edge of my seat was the car wash, which then ended in a way that made no sense, and again cheapened the feel of the film. 2.25 out of 5 moons, rounded down. One friend told me she considered it the best in the franchise; another said it was just alright. After having experienced it more than once now (does that tell you how I feel about it?), I’d have to agree with my first friend - this film is fantastic. Now this random group of strangers, who were all meant to die in the freeway disaster, must join Kimberly in a desperate attempt to stay alive.” The Review: After the harrowing cliffhanger that ended 2000’s Final Destination with a bang (literally!), I was excited to see what came next for the franchise. After watching 2003’s Final Destination 2, it’s safe to say I wasn’t disappointed.. at least until I was. Don’t get me wrong here - this film is an incredibly fun watch, and there are many high points. Of note are the premonition sequence, the beginning twist, Clear’s return, and the many incredible death sequences that were achieved on-screen with minimal CGI and that had incredible staying power over the past twenty or so years in relation to other films in the franchise that came after this one. The rest of my gripes are small ones and not worth delving into in this format, but rest assured, if you’re looking for an entertaining follow-up to the first Final Destination, you won’t be disappointed. Many consider this equal to the first film, and while I consider it a tad lower in quality, it’s still a great movie and one that I’ll undoubtedly come back to when I’m in the mood for a good gory kill with a side of intelligent character writing (for the most part, anyways). 3.5/5 moons.
