Agora um fato curioso. Não sei se você percebeu, ou já tinha visto o filme para saber, mas a personagem de Cate Blanchett em Blue Jasmine, filme de Woody Allen, foi baseado em Blanche. E não é só isso, a trama é bem parecida. Não ouvi ninguém falar sobre isso, mas é nítido a semelhança do roteiro e personagem. Voltando a "Uma Rua Chamada Pecado", as atuações são tão magníficas, conduzidas com maestria por Elia Kazan, que Kim Hunter e Karl Malden também venceram o Oscar de Coadjuvantes. Deuxième séance du week-end : « Back to black » de la réalisatrice britannique @samtaylorjohnson 🍿 J’avais hâte de découvrir ce biopic sur la vie tumultueuse de la chanteuse @amywinehouse, et j’ai… adoré ! J’ai pourtant mis du temps à entrer dans le film. Après les 10 premières minutes, j’ai totalement été emportée par la performance de l’actrice qui incarne la star aka @marisaabela_ Je trouve qu’elle crève l’écran. Elle a réussi le pari d’incarner avec brio une artiste qui était complexe, à fleur de peau, à la fois forte et fragile. J’ai beaucoup apprécié découvrir ses failles, ses parts d’ombre, mais aussi sa relation complice qu’elle avait avec sa grand-mère (jouée par la merveilleuse Lesley Manville), sa source d’inspiration, et qui elle était. J’ai adoré retrouver l’acteur @eddiemmarsan qui interprète son père Mitch, dont elle était également très proche. Mention spéciale aussi à Jack O’Connell qui incarne Blake, l’homme dont tombera follement amoureuse Amy Winehouse, et qui la fera s’abandonner à ses démons. Car oui, Amy Winehouse était torturée et alcoolique bien avant d’être connue. De mauvaises rencontres et de mauvais choix la feront succomber à l’âge de 27 ans d’une trop grande ingestion d’alcool, lui faisant rejoindre le « club des 27 ». Proving once again how efficiently the major studios operated, the turnaround time from production to premiere was quick. “Sullivan’s Travels” was filmed from May 12, 1941 through July 22, 1941 on the Paramount Pictures lot and ranch, as well as at various locations in southern California. 📝 The movie’s press screening was held on December 4, 1941. The official premiere was held on December 29 in Jackson, Tennessee and its Hollywood premiere was on February 12, 1942, at the Los Angeles Paramount Theatre. I’ll say right off the bat this is easily my favorite movie of 2024 so far. I could not believe how hooked I was the whole time to the point where I felt genuinely exhilarated by the end. The story, despite jumping around time a lot is easy to follow and understand but has a lot of complexity to its characters and relationships. The three main performances are perfect. Zendaya gives off so much confidence and power her whole performance that you 100% buy the hold she has over the other two. Mike Faist and Josh O’Connor are also incredible and I couldn’t decide who I liked better. The direction throughout is perfect but especially during the tennis matches. Something I personally would normally find boring is made so intense and thrilling through Guadagnino’s direction. You never know how things are gonna go and it kept me completely captured. Finally I gotta bring up the score by Reznor and Ross arguably two of the best people doing movie scores right now. It adds so much to the movie and helps capitalize on its best moments. The Name of the Rose (1986) or when the saints become the sinners An abbey - a place of peace and quiet - unless you live in the 14th century and are a monk at a certain Benedictine abbey in Northern Italy. The inhabitants of said abbey have been shaken by a mysterious death that just before an important theological conference takes place there. Thankfully Franciscan friar William of Baskerville (Sean Connery) who is known for his wisdom and knowledge and his novice Adso of Melk (Christian Slater) have just arrived to participate in the conference. While William plays medieval Sherlock Holmes, more deaths occur. Can William find the murderer before it's too late or will he become a victim himself? I cannot resist a good murder-mystery film because that's where I can put on my imaginary deerstalker and pretend I am the next Miss Marple, well a younger version at least. And this film delivered. There are numerous mysterious deaths, plenty of suspicious people and a setting that helps in creating an ominous atmosphere. Sometimes the score remains in the background and after the credits have rolled I can barely remember it - not this time though. James Horner masterfully understands how to create suspense and increase the sinister ambience with the power of music. Sean Connery portrays the wise, level-headed and rational William of Baskerville very well. He radiates an auror that makes you instantly trust him much like a beloved grandfather figure. As contrast you have the innocent and naive Adso who has no clue how the world works. Christian Slater does an excellent job in playing the young Aldo who still has much to learn. However, there is also a second, deeper layer to the movie openly hidden behind this highly entertaining whodunit plot and that's the criticism of the church as an institution. The film frequently shows the double standard of the church for instance while the monks are giving morsels of food to the poor, they are simultaneously collecting food from them as some sort of tax. It's this second layer that to me made this film truly standout. This is not the first time I have seen this film and it certainly won't be the last.

Wednesday Afternoon Movie. Falling Down 1993 Directed by Joel Schumacher Starring Michael Douglas, Robert Duvall, and Barbara Hershey This was probably one of Michal Douglas’s best roles since he portrayed Gordon Gekko in 1987. I believe this movie and his role were lost in the shuffle with Basic Instinct coming out in the same year. This is a realistic portrayal of a man losing grasp of his sanity after losing his job, family, and everything in between in which he goes across LA terrorizing gang members, racists, and really a bunch of people who deserve it. A film that I’m not sure could or would be green-lit today, it’s a memorable one that showcases how truly talented Michael Douglas is.

Un ottimo film di fantascienza sui loop temporali, piacevole da vedere e con molto carisma. Cruise e Blunt funzionano bene insieme e gli effetti speciali sono ben fatti e non troppo invasivi. Basato su un manga ed anche di qualità.

At the invaluable Eastman Museum in Rochester, New York, a colorful, eye-catching exhibit titled “Crashing into the 60s: Film Posters from the Collection” is on display through September 8. It’s a visual delight. The dozens of selected posters reveal the vital revolution in movies and the wonderful new sense of graphic design in the 1960s, which was utilized to promote them. A series of classic films chosen in conjunction with the exhibit are running in the Dryden Theatre on site. ———— 📝 The museum’s mission statement about “Crashing into the 60s: Film Posters from the Collection” reads in part: “New topics, many of them considered taboo just a couple years earlier, called for new styles. The highly individual approach to posters, often combined with mixing genres and daring aesthetics, became more common, narrowing the gap between the motion picture industry and fine art. Having pioneered poster art in the 1950s, design giant Saul Bass was now flourishing in the 1960s among other artists entering the spotlight. A marketing tool, film posters promoted blockbusters as well as numerous B-movies, often influenced by pulp magazines and comic books.” ———— 📺 A video in the exhibit space highlights the creation of the show.
