Weโre really drunk! ๐ผ Fake Indians - The Pest ๐ผ With a new lockdown announced in Belgium I thought it was appropriate to put The Pest by Fake Indians on my turntable. First of all, itโs kinda funny releasing an album called The Pest during a pandemic. But secondly and most important: this is a great album. I have to warn people that like straight-forward songs with catchy hooks, you will not find it here. Fake Indians hit the listeners with unstructured, loud, noisy, rowdy rock tunes. Itโs an eclectic bunch if songs. The Stooges, Sonic Youth, Jon Spencer Blues Explosion and Jimi Hendrix all pay a visit on The Pest. With Cheyenne we even get a poppy song. High five! ๐ผ Joeri Chipsvingers - De Avonturen Van Joeri Chipsvingers ๐ผ Another beautifully drawn album cover. ๐ But make no mistake, the music definitely isnโt as simple as the album cover. Joeri Chipsvingers (English translation: Joeri Potato Chips Fingers. Swipe left and youโll get it) is the alter ego of Michiel De Naegel, a composer that graduated from the conservatory of Ghent. He created Joeri Chipsvingers in reaction to the very serious classical world. His alter ego might be silly, the music definitely isnโt. Michiel conducts an eleven-piece ensemble with strings, wind instruments, percussion and piano. They take the listener on an instrumental adventure with a lot of potato chips involved. ๐ As a listener you have to write the adventures yourself based on the song titles (for instance The Paprika Pact) and the vibe of the compositions. To top it all of there are a couple of awesome, weird, slightly psychedelic interludes in between the songs. Today's song:ย Double Veterans - Beach Life (2014) ๐ง๐ช Any lovers of dirty-sounding psychedelic garage music should give this tune a listen and check out the band's debut album/EP 'The Brotherhood of Scary Hair and Homemade Religion'. The album is a mix of straightforward sing-a-long trashy garage tracks ('Beach Life' , 'Mystery Girl') and longer, more jammy krautrock stuff ('Messenger Dead, Message Alive') . @breezer.ananas invited me to a concert of them and I liked the no-nonsense attitude, accompanied by great tunes with plenty of reverb. The band is a 3piece without bass, yet their sound is full and rich. Their singer and guitar player is Lee Swinnen, the son of Belgian rock legend Guy Swinnen (frontman of The Scabs). Today's song is their nihilistic stoner ode to the beach: Stepping on the beach Drinking, smoking weed Hanging with my friends This could be the end And bottle's in your hand And drinking in the sand...
