** Long post ** Art can be captivating, enthralling, absorbing and much more. So as to capture those fascinating aspects which you once studied, is a rewarding experience of a lifetime. Visiting the Getty Centre felt something similar. Although incomparable to historically rich & invaluable museums in Europe, the Getty has a reasonably good collection of medieval art. From the aspects of preservation very few paintings stand the test of time, hence their restoration becomes vital for longevity. I have listed below some of my favourites, which have been restored at some point, but with details close to its original form- 1) Adam & Eve (1530); by Lucas Cranach (German). Famous for its adventures of the past 100 years. The painting was found with a wealthy baron in Kiev, then fell in the hands of the Nazis, looted by the Soviets, and after innumerable expensive lawsuits landed at the Getty. 2) Madonna and child with a male saint, Catherine of Alexandria, and a Donor (1496); by Michelangelo di Pietro Membrini (Italian) 3) Madonna of the Magnificat (1485-90); by Sandro Botticelli (Italian). @Jette_Kirkeby and I did an "Exquisite Corpse" face together where Jette painted on the left side of the canvas and then covered it up so I didn't know what she painted except for marks where I should paint the top and bottom of the head, the top and bottom of the nose and the top and bottom of the mouth. While I was painting on my side, an eye appeared out of NOWHERE (or maybe SOMEWHERE!) so I had to go with it. Someone mentioned that my art is the subconscious of the women in Jette's paintings but I'm thinking that it might be the reverse! But regarding this piece, I like how it freed us both up to do some different and fun things and I like how they work together in an "Extreme Harmony!"
