Every once in a while the kids and I meet up with Dorien to say hi while he’s at work. They’re always so excited and think he’s the coolest guy in the world when they see their daddy step out of his patrol car in full gear, getting to put away bad guys and do fun “weece opicer” things. Be Aware: Body Language, Facial Expressions, Eye Contact, Tone of Voice **Meaning - If you see they’re about to snap, ask them if there’s any way you can help, and it’s ok for you to point out that they look as though something’s wrong. If any mannerisms have changed - and it’s lasted 3+ months, get help from a local, law enforcement (or trauma informed) counselor, because it may be more than you can deal with as a spouse. I made this sign for D a couple years ago. I hung it over the garage door and he read it every day before he left to work. When we listed our home, we decided it needed to come down prior to pictures and showings. Not because we’re ashamed of what he does. Not because we’re afraid to offend someone with different views. We did it to limit the attention drawn to us being a law enforcement family. We did it for our safety. Every 23 hours, a law enforcement officer is shot in the US. Let that sink in. Every. 23. Hours. We lost another member of the blue line family on Monday. Officer Diller was murdered by a career criminal with 21 prior arrests. Stories of determination, perseverance, and sacrifice to move beyond barriers to serve. Women in the military have faced obstacles to serve since the American Revolution, but they found a way to fight for freedom and pave the way for future generations. Among significant military dates is 12 June 1948 when the Women's Armed Services Integration Act was signed into law allowing women to receive regular permanent status in the Armed Services. In 2013, the ban on women in ground combat positions was repealed, and all military occupations and positions were opened to women in 2016. The number of women in the military is rising! As of 2022, there were 231,147 women in the Department of Defense (DoD) active duty force (18%). To boot, countless female military spouses and family members raise children, work, and manage challenges on their own at home when their partners are deployed. We honor their strength and courage, too. Everything works when you unplug it for a while. This past weekend I had the pleasure of going on an intimate eco healing retreat with 4 other veterans and when I tell you my heart is so full! It’s easy to get caught up in your day to day so much anxiety and brain fog become normal. A couple of weeks ago I broke, and with the help of a very intimate group I put my pieces back together but knew something had to change. I was in danger. My nervous system and spirit called me to attention, called me to isolation, called me to stillness and healing. Sometimes we need a reminder of who we are, where we’ve been and a place to let our scars breathe around people who hide theirs daily trying to cope normally in a world determined to count you out. This weekend I was reminded that I matter, I’m important , that I deserve support and just who the hell I am. I am a mom I am a warrior I am a fighter I am a provider I am a lover I am a friend But before all of that I am a human: pleasure, happiness, rest, choices, respect, are all my birthright. I don’t HAVE to settle for anything at all because of the stripes and scars conquering life gave me. I am inferior to no one and I have always existed beyond this Matrix. I am a product of infidelity but my ancestors had a plan for me. I take up space because I DESERVE to and have defied every obstacle stacked against me. I’ve been called a walking ancestor, an elder, hell even bat shit crazy , whatever you see me as ……YOU SEE ME! Get used to me.
