There are numerous employers in search of an older, reliable person on whom they can count. There is some employment available to senior citizens. There are a few jobs willing to hire older people. There are two. Working with older people, or peers, as a caregiver or companion or working with younger people as a school bus driver. Everyone wants young and shiny. The end. Friends will suggest various retail/cashier/restaurant positions for which you have already applied. 3.21.15- Syracuse- @longlivekingdiamond put this one together and asked again if I would make a flyer. I figured I’d try something goofy so I went with Space Ghost doing some office job lunch break water cooler/rumor mill talk using the band’s playing as part of the conversation. It was pretty random honestly and I sort of just winged it. Came out pretty funny I think. Either way, this whole show was intended to host @heavysighband who were from Jersey and kind of getting in on the ground floor of the whole shoegaze renaissance . While they were pretty good they never quite got the sort of attention other bands of that ilk did. i had dutch braids and nordic twists in my hair for the past couple of days and took them out tonight. i was hoping to sport them during the day but i needed them down tonight. after the girls enthusiastically said they wanted to help, neither showed up. they were upset to see i didn’t wait for them. and they knew exactly why. for as long as i have been a mother, i have practiced “i mean what i say, i say what i mean”. this parallels my “we do the things we need to do so we can do the things we want to do”. these disciplines do not come easily. frankly they’re exhausting to follow through on. but there’s this wonderfully bizarre freedom on the other side of discipline which keeps me grounded in both my parenting and in my life. like when it comes to how i use my time, especially in my friendships. my point is, i no longer feel like i am missing out. this is what i am attempting to show my children. we choose what we pay attention to, how much we give and for how long. and naturally, we will miss out on various things. i have taken a sabbatical from certain things, friendships in particular. i have been walking the tight rope from “what someone else thinks of me is none of my business” to “is this friend a radiator or a drain?” i am learning to let go of the ones who are uninterested in being part of my story and are no longer asking to spend time with me. it’s disappointing, painful and devastating. it’s also meaningful and worth something. i am learning how to regulate and cope. i am learning to forgive and absorb the cost of that. i am learning to be ok with less. all this- because my daughters were upset they missed out. that’s what i have to share tonight #heavysigh
It’s easy for me to love nature…I have no expectations of what will show up for me while immersed in it. I happily have my camera ready to capture the natural beauty without baiting or dressing like a flower (haha Svelte), or jumping through hoops to share an image that I think others will value. Nature is a place for me that is constantly changing, it provides its own stage. I wish people had this naturalness, this unapologetic expression of “I am” right here right now. No addictions to having to prove anything or feeling not enough. No tribal rules that compromise someone’s sovereignty.
