We had a meetup with the powerful women of the #Mediterranean #network of #feminist #urbanplanners, inspired and organised by @collectiupunt6 ! 🌊 Col·lectiu Punt 6 is a Catalan collective of feminist #architects, #sociologists, and urbanplanners who came up with the idea of creating a Mediterranean Network of feminists and collectives in the field of urban planning. This network will work mainly with #women and other #vulnerable groups from an intersectional perspective. #Housing_crisis, #social_injustice, #racism, and lack of #safety for women in #publicspaces are just some of the aspects of our focus in the wider Mediterranean area. How Housing Cooperatives Kickstarted in 1920s Stockholm" 🗣 Jan Rydén Bonmot (artist and writer) 💬 Language: EN 🆓 Upon registration 👉 luca.lu 📍 luca From 1923 to 1927, affordable workers' housing was constructed in Stockholm in an amazingly short time. The developments had high artistic ambitions and introduced new modern conveniences such as central heating, bathrooms, communal washing machines, and verdant communal courtyards. The districts were built by the then-newly established Swedish housing cooperatives SKB and HSB. Interestingly, it all happened against a socio-economic background similar to the present-day: a recent pandemic and a war in Europe sparking high inflation and rising construction costs. Then, the market-driven real estate development stopped dead in its tracks, and commercial building activity stopped. This gave room for the cooperative building movement to get going, and within a year, the first building was up. In four years since their foundation, they had built 2500 small apartments in Stockholm alone and started several factories. Can this housing success, where political will met citizen initiatives, provide inspiration for addressing the challenges in Luxembourg? From 1923 to 1927, affordable workers' housing was constructed in Stockholm in an amazingly short time. The developments had high artistic ambitions and introduced new modern conveniences such as central heating, bathrooms, communal washing machines, and verdant communal courtyards. The districts were built by the then-newly established Swedish housing cooperatives SKB and HSB. Interestingly, it all happened against a socio-economic background similar to the present-day: a recent pandemic and a war in Europe sparking high inflation and rising construction costs. Then, the market-driven real estate development stopped dead in its tracks, and commercial building activity stopped. This gave room for the cooperative building movement to get going, and within a year, the first building was up. In four years since their foundation, they had built 2500 small apartments in Stockholm alone and started several factories. Last Saturday we were so pleased to see so many folks at our “is starting a co-op right for you” event. we collaborated with Co-ops UK to deliver this introductory workshop at Stirchley Baths. We had a lively discussion with the more than thirty people who attended, explaining the co-op model and the steps to take to set one up. Pete from @loaf.coop, Johnny from @artefactprojects and Sam, a member of SCD gave us insights into their co-ops with Chris from @birminghambikefoundry also presenting on the various legal models and the funded support that’s available for people who wish to set up a co-op. We’d love to see more co-ops develop and succeed in Birmingham and so we’ll work to facilitate more workshops in the coming year as well as at least two co-op meet ups in spring (April 30th) and Summer (July 16th). The California HCD and Special Occupancy Park permitting process may be a State-Level method for creating alternative living environments in and around cities that supersedes restrictive local #nimby policies.
