Friday night we had a couple baby goats born. The one wasn’t doing very good so we brought her in to warm her up and get her eating. As she was warming up we could tell that Fancy was really concerned about her. So we let her out to see what she would do and she loved our baby goat and mothered her. It was THE sweetest. We love our mommas and how loving they are to all our animals! That goat is alive and doing well! Unfortunately, sometimes there are untestable genes at play that can cause a pup to shed more. If you have a strong preference make sure to ask about furnishings, especially if there are allergies or sensitivities because there are litters that are more suited for this. Sound desensitization is super important to developing puppies. We start desensitization at week 4 and continue until your puppy comes home. Noises include but are not limited to: - doorbells - car noises - vacuums - crying/screaming kids - other dogs barking - fireworks - thunderstorms - dishes - birds chirping - doors shutting - music - sirens You can continue the process from 8 weeks on by playing these sounds at low volumes during safe times (eating or playing) and gradually increasing the volume until they show reactions. Lower the volume, start again. We have been working on some general control today, remember folks: it’s important to teach your dog what the words we use mean away from stress…. Stress inhibits our ability to learn and retain information and stress can be anytime our dogs heart rate goes up… the door bell rings, they see posty, you come home, they see a dog…. What ever it may be…. To help them understand how to behave around these things we need to teach them with training ‘make believe’ scenarios so we can teach them the word…. Then we apply it to real life.
