HUGE THANK YOU AND SHOUT OUT TO @dingosdogsitting and the Friday 2legger morning crew including @m.to.the.ary for setting Molly up for success today for her trial “quickie” at the daycare!!! 👏🙌 A year ago, Molly was DOG REACTIVE, had extreme stranger danger, zero recall, and almost no confidence… as MOST rescues struggle with. Fast forward to these last few months, I have finally been able to include her with off leash group hikes with other fully trained dogs in my pack, and slowly allow her to understand DOG TO DOG COMMUNICATION; as well as perfecting those recall skills ! Today, we took a BIG JUMP and tried out a high volume pack of unknown dogs, where there would be new humans and a whole lot of new physical situations at hand. We started slow with a supervised group of selective dogs I chose, then added the rest of the pack and she got to meet over 20 NEW FRIENDS today! Where it all began!(Story time😉) “Fourscore &seven years ago”…. I stumbled across an indeed post of a local daycare looking for staff, fast forward some time and I had found myself at home within the @dingosdogsitting pack as a dog handler in the yard. Nancy (the owner) had seen potential within me, and soon was sending me to BNI meetings to represent the daycare, training new staff members how to handle the yard, and even driving that big ole purple bus I had helped talk her into buying over a sprinter van 😉😅👌 a few years later she had a training seminar at the daycare with a local well reputable canine behaviorist, who actually ended up taking me under his wing for some time as a behavioral training apprentice; And that’s when I knew I wanted to become a certified trainer. Dingos and I had “split trails” for some time while I began my journey from canine handler to canine behavioral trainer, but low and behold after the covid chaos, I have SOMEHOW sniffed my way back to my original pack, and I have returned as a training consultant ! Yesterday I listened to a great podcast hosted by @talkpaperscissors in an episode where Jenna Kingston, founder and trainer @highfivesfork9s talks about how dogs communicate with each other. Jenna speaks about the non verbal language they use to communicate with one another, it’s all energy and body language. She makes a great point in that dogs don’t need to ask each other for help, when they see another dog that needs help, they know it and go in and help! What a great lesson we can learn from these beautiful creatures!!! Today I got to witness this first hand while at the park with my pack. An unknown dog approached our pack as they were all off leash. The dog spotted Molly and began to chase her. This may seem like very typical dog play, however in this particular case, Molly was not playing, she was fleeing, in fear. Molly’s pack felt the shift in her energy and within an instant, several of them ran up and positioned themselves between her and the dog and backed him away. He was outnumbered and had no choice but to let go. These dogs are incredible and we can learn so much from them. Who do you know that needs help right now? These Two did AMAZING on the trails this morning ! Libby struggled with fear based reactivity while Finn struggled with massive anxieties and it use to cause redirection onto each other when major distractions would become present in the situation (other dogs, objects, ppl, bikes, etc) and today we got “ambushed” from behind by a biker who none of us heard or saw coming up and the recall and recovery was flawless when we had to make some room for the biker to pass us AND we even ran up on “Benny” who we always share the trails wjth and these guys stopped recalled and allowed him to pass us without a single vocalization from these two (even when Benny barked at us !!) Finn and Libby aka FIBBY... these two are by far a pair I will remember FOREVER ! The work that has been drilled into these two FREAKS these past 10 months or so is finally starting to really really stick with them! Libba used to be “naughty” to her brother and push him around some and Finn used to laugh at you when you called his name and recalled him while out and about 🤣 (let’s not forget the death scream when libb would make an “advance” on him) and I swear I coulda had a more connected conversation with my own foot than with Finny-fooo when I started with these guys 😂😂😂 but now lib is showing Finn “what we do” while we’re we’re out and about working some recall and basic behavioral boundaries 😉 and his confidence level has increased so much and that intelligence of his is being stimulated to help divert the anxiety thoughts 😁👏 it took time and LOTS of hard work and countless therapy sessions via text msg to Finns mom and Libby’s mom (who are also mother/daughter) when Libby would act a fool😂 but that’s what I’m here for and man are these guys finally “rolling with the waves” of training progression !
