I just had the best low tide, early morning beach walk. These are velella velella. They’re washing up on beaches from Southern California to British Columbia, and there were hundreds of thousands of them on our beach this morning.Largest around 4 inches long, most around 2 inches. It was the first time I’ve gotten to see them. They’re in the same family as Portuguese Man Of War, but harmless. I love my walks, both here and in Chicagoland. I never know what I’ll see.
