Scooby is proving to be the most hilarious and smart greyhound I've ever had. He's the only one who ever figured out how to break out of the yard, but also came back home on his own before I even knew he was gone. He destroyed a hay bail and made a bed out of it in a minute flat, he can let himself out and today, learned how to open the door and let himself back into the house. ๐๐๐ I love this hound so much. World, meet Rosco. ๐พ Weโve enjoyed these last couple of weeks welcoming him to the pack. Like so many dogs who find themselves looking for a home, Rosco has a story. He comes from a high end bloodline (yet we didnโt pay a dime for him), has an easy going personality, and is a true gentle giant. Initially, we werenโt sure if we were going to take him in and foster him or if weโd keep him to be apart of our pack. But after just a short while of seeing him with Memphis we knew we had to keep him. He follows Mems around giving him the occasional sniff and lick, gives him his space but is always close by to check in on him here and there. He also lets us know when Mems diaper needs to be changed. Lol He has blended wonderfully with the rest of the pack. He will be two years old in December. If you want to know more about his story, just ask. Yes, we are officially maximum capacity but before you judge me for having โtoo many dogsโ ask yourself which one of my bills you pay, and who Memphisโ parents are. (Hint, itโs Max and Anna Hoefer). ADOPTION ANNOUNCEMENT! Scooby is officially a member of the Hill Pack. I turned in all the paperwork after his Spa day yesterday. Scooby lived in an outdoor dirt run with one other dog on the eastern plains of CO for most of his 6-year life. When I got him, the fur on his ears was mostly gone due to fly bites, and he had untreated Pannus, which is an autoimmune disorder that causes progressive blindness (and is easily managed with simple meds). The vet believes he has 60-70% vision impairment, the "worst in a greyhound" that she's ever seen. His owner surrendered him to CGA. He is unique in that he was bred in a racing kennel, but never raced and left the racing world as a pup. I don't know for sure, but I don't think he had ever been on a good walk, or at least not many - his joy on walks is like watching a kid at Christmas. Today he graduated to wearing Adam's old harness, and it fits him perfectly with no adjustments. Scooby-Doo and his paw-holding, giant tail wagging, hugging me when he stands on his hind legs, lover of belly rubs, howling, rooing, SILLY and adorable Happiness, has filled a space in my heart I thought would be empty forever. Well guys, I'm sure this comes as no surprise, but Scooby isn't going anywhere. It's not official- he still needs to have his vetting done, but he's home. He just belongs here. The final sign is that I found out his Pedigree today. As I've mentioned, he and Adam share a similar spirit, and I've wondered about his lineage. I knew it was likely they shared some common ancestors since they were both bred at a Colorado racing farm. *Drumroll* Adam's sire (Kiowa Sweet Trey for you racing folk) is Scooby's Grandsire. The most special boys have come to me from that lineage. I don't know what it is about their shared genetics, but they are my boys. No way I could ever let him go now. P.S. The almost-48 hour check-in on foster boy Scooby. He is a love. He's adjusting VERY well to the indoor life, starting to pick up quickly on potty training, claimed Adam's old bed immediately (he's massive, I'd guess almost 90 lbs), wants me to hold his paw and hug him at any opportunity. He is so, so gentle and the girls have zero issues with his presence. Which is surprising because Winny has been especially salty with recent fosters. He's curious and excited about the cats but hasn't shown any desire to eat them.
