По городской легенде, это именно ананасы, поставленные в память о жителе Ламбетского района Джоне Традесканте-младшем, королевском садовнике. Говорят, именно он вырастил первые в Великобритании ананасы. На месте моста издавна существовала переправа через Темзу. Об этом напоминает подходящая к мосту улица – Хорсферри-роуд. «Хорсферри» переводится как «лошадиный паром»: здесь курсировал редкий для Темзы вид транспорта – паром, перевозивший не только людей, но и лошадей с экипажами.

Transported back to my childhood in the late ‘60s and early ‘70s memories of ‘London Lost Riverscapes: A Photographic Panorama’ by Chris Ellmers and Alex Werner (1998). This fab secondhand find from @oxfambookshophove reminds me of Sunday morning getting the wellies on and going mudlarking along the Thames.
