A brand new release from LEGO® that’s only been out for a few weeks. And so unless you’re lucky, it’s unlikely you’ll get this much below the RRP of £259.99 if you were looking to buy 😞 And if you did get it, you’d need to find a home for all 1.16metres of it 😲 There’s a space in our living room that we keep the most recent build on. And it almost doesn’t fit on the unit 🤦♀️ With 2,540 pieces, it’s measures 12cm high x 116cm wide x 8cm deep. Sure it’s long, but it’s not actually that wide or that high. If you’re thinking that you need sets delivered (rather than pick them up), this is what we do. - Sturdy plastic boxes which keeps the set safe in transit. You don’t need to worry about being charged for boxes getting damaged on the way to you/back to us. - Boxes secured with elastic bands to keep the individual pieces safe whilst not in use. Don’t worry if these break - you won’t get charged for replacements 😉 - Instruction booklets stored in a paper bag in the boxes. This stops the pieces from damaging the books keeping them in great condition for you - Sets get wrapped in bubble wrap or we use filler to stop the sets moving in the box - Whilst there’s a sticker saying your parcel is from The Brick Fairy, there’s no description or detailing on the box, keeping your set safe from prying eyes 🤨 - Sets get sent out Tracked 24 Hour. Usually Royal Mail, but sometimes FedEx. We all then know where your parcel is. This isn’t our first rodeo posting stuff out to paying customers. If you love a Disney film, you’ll love this. Packed full of references from the classics of Disney, with cute minifigures too, it’s not difficult to see why this set appears on the wish-list of so many collectors. This build was completed by Miss BF (12), with a little assistance from Mr BF (45). Even Mrs BF (44) was allowed to build one of the turrets! It took between 10 - 12 hours. Altho it seemed to live on our dining table for almost 2 weeks during construction! Miss BF’s thoughts: “Found the turrets repetitive and around the castle. The details and the rooms inside were extraordinary though, such as the cookie crumbs. Loved identifying scenes from the films. The base was challenging in certain areas, like, a couple of times 1 piece was placed wrong and so had to redo quite a lot. Loved the detail of the archway going in to the hall. Could be quite fiddly at times though. Minifigures are adorable Dark blue got mistaken by black a little, although that could be our light. 8/10” Mr BF also felt that the turrets were a little repetitive. But added a couple of thoughts: “Bigger set than expected. Complicated bit was the base plate due to the technic bits. Competent young builder did struggle a little. Good size pieces so you can lay down a lot in a small space of time. 9/10” And we spare you the headaches wondering where it’s going to be stored after completion! THE PERFECT DREAM 😍 🏰 I remember it so vividly. The build up, the anticipation, the travelling, & the arrival. An assault on the senses for a 11 year old that was just immense. It was, a dream come true. I’d entered endless competitions & won none of them. And then one day, Mum and Dad had said we were going. We were going to be travelling California, Nevada and Arizona. With a trip to Disneyland 😍 It really was as wonderful as I’d imagined. The characters, the rides, just the Disney-ness of it all. I’ll never forget that trip. The concept of hiring a set is unusual, granted. It’s an unknown. Will it be like getting a child’s sets that have come from a car boot sale with bits of elastic band mixed in? 🤢 Let’s get as transparent as a Trans-Clear Panel 😁 Box - The Tree House will arrive at your door separated into 2 sturdy deep A4 boxes and 3 shallow A4 plastic boxes. The summer and autumn foliage have been separated into 2 boxes. Instructions - There’s just the one instruction booklet for this set, and it’s contained within the box that contains the pieces for the first 5 bags. Lego pieces - The pieces will be un-bagged within these boxes. It’s a great idea when starting each box that you split the pieces between the box and the upturned lid. We do this by picking out the largest pieces that are all similar, for this set it was large pieces. This then makes rifling through the smaller pieces a little more manageable. Once you’ve finished the first box, move into the second, and repeat the process of separating the pieces, only this time you have 4 boxes to use, and so on! The subsequent boxes will have Box 2 of 5, and Box 3 of 5 etc marked on them, and this is also the building order of the boxes. Pieces with Stickers - This set does not contain any sticker pieces. Mini figures - Come in their own bag, disassembled. This set has 4 with it, and are spaced out throughout the boxes as per the set instructions. So whilst it isn’t quite the same as breaking into a brand new box set directly from LEGO®, we have put a lot of thought into making it as enjoyable as possible. AND THE WINNING SEASON IS… We love a multi build. Y’know, the ones that you change 1 thing & it completely transforms. The dual seasonality of the Tree House is a great example. But which season is the fave? This build was mostly completed by Miss Brick Fairy (12). She’s a massive fan of the Friends range, & is the set builder in the family. “My favourite part of the build was the little details at the end: the river; the table; and all the details like that. They just really finished the build. The huts were awkward. They were delicate and unstable. If you pressed too hard on them or sometimes if putting a LEGO® piece on them, they could fall apart. It was also difficult attaching the house to the tree. Whilst the build was not especially challenging, it was definitely fiddly, like, inside the huts. Amazing design, but I did find the colours a little bit mixed up in the book, as it was so brown. Although that could be our light. It was satisfying to see it all come together. There were new techniques not seen before. Prefer the Summer season. I just think it looks better. 7/10” Mr BF built a couple of the huts. He’s also added a couple of extra thoughts to her review. “Didn’t expect the build to be quite so big. Young builder struggled with the base. Detailing is great, especially inside the Tree House, and is a well proportioned set. Nice to have the different foliage for the seasons. Autumn is the favourite season as it adds depth and soul to the build. Worth the RRP. 8/10.” And as for the favourite season? MRS BRICK FAIRY’S FANTASY 😂 Not gonna lie, Mrs Brick Fairy isn’t really the set builder in the house. She’s never really gotten a chance to build. But what she does love, is peeking into others’ storage solutions. And it doesn’t have to be LEGO® related. Give her a good series on decluttering, or sorting out your life, and she’s off 😁 And whilst The Brick Fairy family are fortunate enough to have their own LEGO® room, Mrs Brick Fairy gets to indulge completely in the world of storage solutions, and organisation. This is, truly, Mrs Brick Fairy’s domain. The main unit that you can see in the picture are where the surplus parts and pieces are stored, that aren’t required in any of the sets that we’ve got around about at the moment. Because she predominantly rebuilds sets, the pieces are stored against all advice out there on storing LEGO®. They are stored in colour order. Until the box compartments get too full of one element, then they get mixed up with the same element in different colours into bigger boxes. Those boxes are then kept for family MOC builds. Confused? So’s the rest of the family! 🤣 There’s a mixture of storage boxes in use here: the 46 compartmental boxes from Hobbycraft; the 18 crafting box from Westons Boxes; various sizes of Really Useful Storage Boxes; and poly bags of all shapes and sizes that have come through the post, usually as part of Bricklink orders. WOULD YOU GIVE IT AN 8? We’re a keen LEGO® family ourselves, and so building the sets (just to make sure the pieces are there, y’know?) is definitely one of the perks of the job! But how does the Himeji Castle fare up? This build was completed by Mr Brick Fairy. He’s a big fan of Speed Champions range, and collects minifigures, but he’s fairly new to building bigger sets. Below are his thoughts about the Himeji Castle set. "Really nice build. Simple to understand instructions. No issues with mixing the colours up. There were lots of little pieces that created a lot of the fine detailing. This did cause a bit of an issue for sausage fingers. Learnt several new techniques, although not used to building Architecture sets. Base plate was probably the trickiest bit to do. Competent builder would be fine with this set. Once you’d got past the base and outer wall, it wasn’t repetitive, although the previous bits were. Time taken about 6 hours.
