The Lion King (2019) Review – 73/100 Next up in the Disney reboot train is many people’s favourite cartoon movie, Hamlet… I mean Lion King! As I’ve said with the Dumbo & Aladdin reboots, the problem is that as everyone knows the story, which takes away from the impact of the film, meaning I don’t fully see how the new ones are going to fully astonish people like the originals do. With a movie as iconic as Lion King, the majority of audiences are more excited for the next part to happen in a newer way, as opposed to being excited for what could happen next which, without a new “spin” on it, means they’re limited on how good they can actually be (for the most part). Now, although the above is all applicable, the movie is still enjoyable – I found Timon & Pumbaa to be incredibly endearing and surprisingly funny, which really make the middle section of the film the most enjoyable for me, I did find the ending to be fairly thrilling and visually on-point, but I found the start dragged for quite a bit which made the 2 hour runtime feel a tad unnecessary. All performances were great, the animals (especially baby Pumbaa) were cute when they needed to be, and looked fantastic, seeming genuinely quite fierce at times too - I welcomed James Earl Jones returning as Mufasa and was not disappointed by his performance so all in all, it was a good movie, not as strong as the original, but definitely a fun addition, although it does make me question further if doing all these reboots is actually needed…

The Lion King 2019 Review - Part 4 🦁 These are photos of the Broadway Version of The Lion King that should have been included in My Review of The Lion King 2019 to drive home the point why the original 1994 version and the Broadway stage version worked better than the latest photo-realistic but devoid of joy and magic remake. Cheers! 🦁 #LionKing #LionKingReview #LionKing2019Review #LionKingBroadwayVersion #LionKing1994 #LionKingOriginalVersion #TravelViaLionKing #TravelViaFilm #TravelViaMovie #Travel #TravelInspiration #AuthenticTravel #TravelMindset #Backpacking #Wanderlust #Adventure #JourneyOfLife  #JourneyOfFaith #F4F #YOLO #FOMO  #JOMO 😛

The Lion King 2019 Review - Part 3: In fairness to the voice cast, however, original star James Earl Jones reprised his role as the voice of #Mufasa with deft authority, delivering syrupy words with his deeply eloquent voice and turning them into majestic words of wisdom. Donald Glover and Beyoncé Knowles-Carter made the roles of #Simba and #Nala their own, breathing new life to the iconic anthem, “Can You Feel The Love Tonight.” (Beyonce lent her singing and talking voice to Nala for only18 minutes of this 1 hour and 58 minute-long film.) Seth Rogen and Billy Eichner were expectedly hilarious as warthog #Pumbaa and meerkat #Timon, respectively. The wickedness of #Scar was adroitly voice-played by Chiwetel Ejiofor like a Shakespearean villain with a British accent, giving original voice actor Jeremy Irons a stiff competition. In sum, despite my reservations about the inherent conceptual problem with its technological conceit, I still consider this film worth watching if only for the photo-realistic visuals that blur the line between cartoon animation and live-action into oblivion and for the voice acting and singing of the competent cast who tried their best to inject much needed emotions into hyper-realistic looking but emotionless animals. 3 out of 5 stars. 😍😎😜 #LionKing #LionKingReview #LionKing2019Review #TravelViaLionKing #TravelViaFilm #TravelViaMovie #Travel #TravelInspiration #AuthenticTravel #TravelMindset #Backpacking #Wanderlust #Adventure #JourneyOfLife  #F4F #YOLO #FOMO  #JOMO 😛

The Lion King 2019 Review - Part 2: Twenty or so minutes into the Lion King remake, I already felt bored and sleepy. Not a good sign, I tell you. Don’t get me wrong. I was blown away by the photo-realistic visuals but I cannot deny the conceptual problem with this remake. The singing and expressive cartoon lions in the1994 original and the singing and dexterous actors dressed in imaginative animal costumes in the Broadway stage version are charmingly and ingeniously executed. I cannot say the same for the life-like but emotionless lions of this remake. I think the1994 original and the Broadway version became huge critical and box office successes because their creators allowed the audience to use their imagination as the story unfolds. As Einstein once said, imagination is powerful because it encompasses more than knowledge. In this remake, however, the filmmaker zapped the joy and magic out of the story by depriving the audience of a corroborative experience with the filmmaker through the use of their fertile imagination. The filmmaker in this remake already filled in all the photo-realistic details in every scene up to the very last digital pixel, leaving the audience passive, uninvolved, and cold. This remake is indeed a victim of its own technological conceit. In its quest for ultra-realism, it paradoxically forced the audience not to care and believe in the realness of the talking and singing lions on screen. It satiated me with its visual hyper-realism and grandeur but it left me cerebrally, emotionally, and spiritually deprived of something more. 🙄😎😜 #LionKing #LionKingReview #LionKing2019Review #TravelViaLionKing #TravelViaFilm #TravelViaMovie #Travel #TravelInspiration #AuthenticTravel #TravelMindset #Backpacking #Wanderlust #Adventure #JourneyOfLife  #F4F #YOLO #FOMO  #JOMO 😛

The Lion King 2019 Review - Part 1: I loved The Lion King, which was originally released in 1994. Growing up, my nephews and nieces and I watched it on video, in VHS and DVD formats to boot, countless times since then. So when Disney announced last year that a live-action version of it was in production, I was truly looking forward to it. Flash forward last week, when I finally watched it in one of its premiere screenings. As the film opened with the golden sun rising over #PrideLands accompanied by the famous African Zulu chant of “Nants ingonyama bagithi baba [Here comes a lion, Father], Sithi uhm ingonyama [Oh yes, it's a lion]” while a rhinoceros lifts its head, an ant crawls on a puddle of crystal clear water, and antelopes gracefully leap to enact the #CircleOfLife with other animals, I was in awe of the hyper-realistic images on the big screen. I almost instinctively raised my arm to pet the life-like animals merrily cavorting in front of me. The opening montage of this remake is a shot-by-shot recreation of the 1994 Lion King but it looked like it was filmed as an immersive documentary by National Geographic. This remake is obviously not a reinvention or re-imagination of the story of a lion cub named Simba who is forced to find his destiny after his father King Mufasa was killed by his uncle Scar during the wildebeest stampede to get the throne. This remake utilized cutting-edge gaming and virtual reality technology to create computer-animated images that look “live-action” and real while remaining absolutely unreal in order to give new life to the original film. Alas, my sense of wonder for this hyper-realistic novelty did not last long. 🙄👍😜 #LionKing #LionKingReview #LionKing2019Review #TravelViaLionKing #TravelViaFilm #TravelViaMovie #Travel #TravelInspiration #AuthenticTravel #TravelMindset #Backpacking #Wanderlust #Adventure #JourneyOfLife  #F4F #YOLO #FOMO  #JOMO 😛

Director: Jon Favreau Producer: Jon Favreau, Jeffrey Silver, and Caren Ghilcrist Distributed by: Walt Disney Studios, Motion Pictures Produced by: Walt Disney Pictures, Fairview Entertainment Release date in Jakarta, Indonesia: 17 July 2019 My personal opinion: As expected, I prefer the 2D version. This live action version is so plain. Nothing emotional. What I like about this movie: The acapela when Timon and Pumba and other animals joining them singing "ah wem mah web". Also like the animation. Why I don't give 5 stars for this movie: Can't feel any emotion in the movie. I recommend this movie but not that much. ⭐ 3/5 #devinamoviereview #moviereview #lionking #thelionking #lionking2019 #thelionking2019 #lionkingmovie #thelionkingmovie #lionking2019movie #thelionking2019movie #lionkingmoviereview #thelionkingmoviereview #lionking2019moviereview #thelionking2019moviereview #lionkingreview #thelionkingreview #lionking2019review #thelionking2019review
