After the last kids movie I watched I needed to watch one that I know is decent. I grew up watching #TheLionKing, and I know all the words! This crowd pleasing cartoon musical from #WaltDisney had enormous box office appeal, and proved so popular that it was adopted as a stage show. For the children there's the story of how a lion cub, exiled by his wicked uncle, achieves his destiny. For grown-ups there's a visual feast of exciting animation work and some good @eltonjohn songs. #JeremyIrons is the stand out as the evil uncle #Scar. Oh and he has the best song! 🎶 Be prepaaaared 🎶 4 stars
The Lion King Directed by Roger Allers and Rob Mirkoff . . 5/10 Plot Some lions stupid son gets lost and tries to find his way back to his family metaphorically and physically Review Don‘t get me wrong the movie is actually worse than a 5/10 and even on a kids movie scale it doesn‘t hold up. This mid. Let me explain First, this movie really tries to make us believe that Simba thinks he killed his dad. There is no reason in the goddamn movie for Simba to believe that. Why would he believe that?!? He didn’t even try to save his dad and fail. He was not able to help him at all. Second, Simba is supposed to be the hero of the story but he is straight up an asshole. He is being so mean to that one bird who is just trying to do his job and it is played off as okay and playful. However, Timon and Pumba carry this movie so hard. They’re among the top tier comic reliefs in all movies of all time. To conclude, this is a kids movie that teaches you how to be brave and handle death, but that’s it. It is not enjoyable for adults, not like Pixar movies. If a grown-up likes this movie they watched it when they were a kid. <라이언킹 오리지널 내한공연 후기> 뉴욕 브로드웨이에서 가장 상징적인 공연을 꼽으라면 ‘라이언킹’이 단연 1위일것이다. 내용이나 연출면에서도 뛰어나지만 스케일이 가장 크고 거대하기 때문이다. 또한 배우들의 연기가 오리지널팀이 아니면 절대 따라할 수 없는 작품이라 더욱 귀한 대접을 받는다. 개인적으로는 알라딘이 더 재미있고 라이언킹은 지루한면이 있다고 생각하는데 뉴욕에 가서만 볼 수 있는 공연이기에 나 역시 빼놓지 않고 갈때마다 관람했고 CD부터 가방, 인형까지 이미 다 구입했었다. 한국에서도 1부 시작전 프로그램북을 비롯 완판되니 1시간 전에는 도착해서 어마어마한 인파를 뚫고 꼭 구입하길 바란다. 뉴욕에서 가는것과 같은 가격인데 왜 안사나요?🤔 느므느므 귀엽다구요!!! 3년전 한국에 오리지널팀이 온다고 했을때 그 인형, 조명, 악기 등등 다른 뮤지컬의 10배 정도 될 장비를 모두 가지고 온다고? 의아하면서도 너무 기대되는 마음으로 관람을 했었다. 그때 한국에서 본다는게 너무 감사했지만 뉴욕 공연장에 비해 무대가 작은 예술의 전당, 그리고 물론 좋았지만 A급 배우가 아닌 몇명의 아쉬움이 진하게 남아있었다. 물론 그럼에도 너무 좋았지만🦁 코로나 상황에 브로드웨이가 문을 닫았고 6개월전에 라이언킹팀이 뉴욕에서 재개를 한다는 소식을 들었다. 너무나 좋아하는 줄리테이머 연출의 첫 리허설을 유튜브로 지켜보면서 함께 뭉클했는데 전세계에서 공연을 할 수 있는 나라가 몇개국 없는 상황에서 우리나라 공연이 결정됐다. 당연히 전석매진이었고 3개월 넘게 기다린 끝에 드디어 공연날이 되었다. 라이언킹은 동물들이 관객사이로 등장하는것이 큰 즐거움인데 코로나 시국이라 어떤 배우도 무대에서 내려올 수 없는 연출로 바뀌었기에 이번 공연은 반드시 1층으로 예매하시길 바란다. 18만원, 15만원 좌석으로 구성되어있는데 정말 돈이 하나도 아깝지 않은 시간이 될거라 확신한다. 전석매진이지만 운좋게 1층에서 전체를 볼 수 있었던 어제의 공연에 대한 자세한 후기를 얘기해볼테니 예매에 참고 하시기 바랍니다:) 서울 공연은 3월 18일까지 그 이후에는 지방공연이 예정되어 있는데 지방가서도 보시라고 할만큼 역대급 캐스팅입니다. 개인적으로 라이언킹은 포문을 여는 라피키에 의해 모든것이 결정된다고 생각하는데 이번 라피키는 뉴욕에서 본 캐스팅보다 더 잘한다고 느껴질만큼 혼이 쏙 빠지는 연기와 노래였다. 그녀가 사바나를 깨우는 첫 노래에 모든 관객이 열광했다. 새로운 생명, 초원의 왕자 심바의 탄생을 함께 지켜보는 곳 같았고 Circle of Life의 가사는 코로나 시국에 모두에게 전하는 메세지처럼 가슴에 와 닿았다. 시간이 흐르며 생명은 순환하고 진실대로 제자리를 찾아간다는 원리, 우리가 지금 이 시대에 가슴에 새겨야할 것이 아닐까. 이번 캐스팅의 또 다른 역대급은 어린 심바와 무파사, 스카였다. 3년전 내한팀에 비해 정말 비교할 수 없을만큼 훌륭한 배우들이었다. 특히 어린 심바의 흔들림없는 노래와 훌륭한 연기에 깜짝 놀랐다. 이 작품은 모형, 가면, 인형, 분장 등으로 동물들을 표현하는데 사람 얼굴위에 왕관처럼 얹어진 가면을 쓴 무파사는 풍부한 성량과 훌륭한 딕션 등으로 정말 왕 그 자체였고 3년전에도 훌륭했던 스카는 영상에서 그대로 튀어나온게 아닌가 할만큼 완벽한 연기였다. 수십번봐도 좋은 이유는 작품을 볼때마다 그날그날 감동받는 장면이 다른데 이번의 하이라이트는 주연들이 아닌 2부의 포문을 여는 앙상블과 오케스트라 연주였다. 어떻게 이렇게까지 딱 맞아떨어지는 합창을 할 수 있는지 인간의 소리가 아름다움을 넘어 경지에 오르는 순간이었다. 어른 심바와 어른 날라의 노래가 다른 배우들에 비해 아쉬웠지만 같이간 친구는 어른 심바의 노래도 너무 감동이었다며 극찬을 아끼지 않았다. 라이언킹의 노래는 우리가 잘 아는 엘튼존, 한스짐머가 작곡한 노래들인데 하쿠나마타타를 외치는 티몬과 품바부터 ‘I just Can’t Wait to be King’, ‘Be Prepared’, ‘Can you fell the love tonight’등 이루 말할 수 없는 아름다운 곡들로 이뤄진 뮤지컬이기에 시간이 어떻게 가는지 모른다. 다만, 자막이 양옆에 있어서 좌석을 잘 골라야만하고 어린아이들에겐 다소 무리가 가는 작품일 수 있다. 동물들의 등장으로 정말 재미있을거란 막연한 어른들의 생각보다 2시간 30동안 집중할 수 있을지, 자막을 잘 읽어가며 볼 수 있는지 고려하시길 바라며 긴 후기를 마쳐봅니다.

I first went to see 'The Lion King' 15 years ago and it’s a testament to this dazzling production that after 22 years on stage, it’s still just as good as it ever was. It has punchy tunes by Elton John and Tim Rice and an opening scene guaranteed to give you goosebumps. But the real star of the show is Julie Taymor, she who is responsible for all those masks and costumes (she’s also in the director’s chair). Ah remakes, love or hate them they're certainly here to stay for a while so I figured it's time to just enjoy them and avoid this crazy hype bandwagon they seem to pick up. Admittedly the original Lion King was never a favourite in the Disney world, a great film for sure but I never got the appeal most people my age group seem to have. In a way I feel this makes me enjoy the 2019 remake a lot more. Stunning visuals displayed here, seriously this film is gorgeous to look at. A lot of hate was how this was a boring shot for shot version of the original and with that said, how can that possibly be a bad thing if you like the original? This gorgeous adaptation with a stellar voice cast all a round. I can only agree that yes with more realistic animals it's harder to display emotions within them but I didn't find this took me away to strongly from enjoying the film at all. Music of course is brilliant here again was surprised the film only contained one original song during the film (minus the credits) as I thought we may have got a few new additions but again i'm not mad at this and I'm glad Disney didn't throw songs in for the sake of having them in there. Did Spirit add anything new to the film? Not particularly but it was a cute scene and of course it was inevitable we'd get a showcase from Beyoncé being attached to the film. Overall I found this remake to be enjoyable and gorgeous to look at, of course was it needed is the strong question and my response is no one is forcing you to watch these remakes. Lion King (2019) Rating 8/10 Director Jon Favreau A photo realistic re-telling of the 1994 animated classic using cutting edge modern day CGI. The film follows the same story as the original film with a few added scenes. All of the original songs are present and accounted for, although Scar's "Be Prepared" number is now in a slower almost spoken format. James Earl Jones reprises his role as King Mufasa with his now older voice being a nice new dimension to the character, other than that it's an entirely new voice cast all round. I thought the performances were very good without any real weak points. Chiwetel Ejiofor is menacing as Scar. Billy Eichnar and Seth Rogan do a great comedy combo as Timon and Pumba. Beyonce delivers in speaking as much as she does in singing as Nala. Donald Glover conveys the emotions as Simba. John Oliver is excellent as Zazu. Visually the film is absolutely stunning, when I first saw it in the cinema i couldn't believe it was animated it looks so realistic. I have since re-watched the film on Ultra HD Blu-ray and I still think the same. The film struggles with conveying the facial expression and emotion this brings to the characters from a visual perspective that you get from the original, although this comes with the life like animals. I was so looking forward to the film and perhaps my expectations were too high being such a fan of the original. The Voice cast do a fantastic job conveying the emotions to bring these characters to life with powerful sinister and fun performances from all involved, this together with the brilliant animation full of stunning landscapes, wonderful colours and unforgettable scenes really draws you in and keeps you engaged. With big memorable songs full of emotion written by Elton John and Tim Rice that have stood the test of time and are real sing along classics. You can check out my review below 👇🏾 ➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖ So some of you already know that I am a H U G E Disney fan, with one of my all time favourite Disney movies being The Lion King 🦁 I had it on VHS and watched it on repeat for months, coupled with the soundtrack that I also had on CD and bored (and scared) my sister to tears with it, I knew all the words to all the songs and could recite all the talking parts verbatim... anyways, fast forward 25 years and we now have the live action version. Being a fan of the original, I entertained the idea of spending £15 on a singular cinema ticket (3X as much as it would have cost when the cartoon originally came out may I add 🙈), and off to odeon I went with my sister in hopes of reliving our childhood. So, my thoughtssss?? My 5 main objectives were fulfilled: most of the original songs should be un-altered in the movie ✅; sing-along to all my favourite songs ignoring dodgy looks from other viewers ✅; the animals must talk with their lips not with their eyes ✅; the death of mufasa (spoiler alert🚨) must still bring tears to my eyes ✅; and Timon & Pumbaa must still make fart jokes and remind me that I have no worries (thank you Seth rogan & Billy Eichner👌🏾) ✅. However, what I didn’t like was that some of the magic and charm from the original movie was lost since “real” animals obviously can’t laugh or smile or cry or show any type of emotion like cartoon characters can, and as a m a z i n g as THE Queen B herself sounds, vocal gymnastics and a powerful vibrato don’t really fit the mood in the harmonious pride lands of Africa where lions rule the roost (I do love the song however). Visually the live action version was as amazing as a David Attenborough style nature documentary, but reality wasn’t suspended long enough for you to truly appreciate w h y these live action lions are serenading each other and giving off bedroom-eye vibes. Of course if you’ve seen the original then this isn’t lost on you but for those who haven’t (or for your kids) I suggest watching that BEFORE watching the live action version...Just my opinion

The Lion King Let's just first get it out of the way. This film is stunning. Some of the art on display blows my mind of how they can do it to this level of accuracy. But with that out of the way the film itself is a meh. It is not a bad film and without the original it would probably be a really good film but there is the original. So although it's enjoyable, it just isn't quite as good as the original. Everybody has already said it but the lack of emotion on the animals faces (for realism) does create a lack of emotion. With that being said there are certainly good things about this film, Timone and Pumba are really funny at time and the lion cubs at the start are funny and adorable. Looking past the original being so good though I think overall it's a good watch, it doesn't feel long and is very enjoyable and on its own it would have been really good, but was it needed?

The Lion King (2019) Review – 73/100 Next up in the Disney reboot train is many people’s favourite cartoon movie, Hamlet… I mean Lion King! As I’ve said with the Dumbo & Aladdin reboots, the problem is that as everyone knows the story, which takes away from the impact of the film, meaning I don’t fully see how the new ones are going to fully astonish people like the originals do. With a movie as iconic as Lion King, the majority of audiences are more excited for the next part to happen in a newer way, as opposed to being excited for what could happen next which, without a new “spin” on it, means they’re limited on how good they can actually be (for the most part). Now, although the above is all applicable, the movie is still enjoyable – I found Timon & Pumbaa to be incredibly endearing and surprisingly funny, which really make the middle section of the film the most enjoyable for me, I did find the ending to be fairly thrilling and visually on-point, but I found the start dragged for quite a bit which made the 2 hour runtime feel a tad unnecessary. All performances were great, the animals (especially baby Pumbaa) were cute when they needed to be, and looked fantastic, seeming genuinely quite fierce at times too - I welcomed James Earl Jones returning as Mufasa and was not disappointed by his performance so all in all, it was a good movie, not as strong as the original, but definitely a fun addition, although it does make me question further if doing all these reboots is actually needed…

In the spirit of seeing the new 🦁 lion king 👑 yesterday, we decided to throw it back to the OG LK today. I must say I think Disney did a disservice to the new lion king by taking out so many of the jokes the hyenas made. They were hilarious and really added to the movie. Pros : 1) Soundtrack dalam this version memang diupgrade menjadi lebih seronok and updated. Also Hans Zimmer punya score memang menambahkan every kind of mood yang ada dalam movie ni. 2) The CGI and animation is outstanding and memang tak dapat bezakan the real and the animated ones. 3) Character wise, kitorang rasa yang paling evolve and menyerlah is Timon and Pumba which was played by Billy Eichner and Seth Rogen. 4) Untuk Disney fans, movie ni mungkin adalah satu fan service pada mereka, because the nostalgic value dalam ni agak tinggi di mana they actually recreate every scenes and dialogues from the original. Which will also bring us to our first point of Cons. . Cons : 1) Everything is simply the same as the original. Except for one or 2 scenes yang tak memberi any impact to the movie. Kalau rasa dah takde duit hujung bulan, korang boleh tengok je the original on Netflix. 2) Pada kitorang the star studded casts sebenarnya adalah bukan benda yang positif. Why? Because all we hear are them, the actual stars and its distracting. 3) Our last cons is the lack of emotional weight portrayed in this new version compared to the original. Disebabkan the static expressions of the animals and the hyper realistic look, we as the audience tak dapat nak relate dengan any emotions or mood. . So what do you guys think? Pros : 1) Soundtrack dalam this version memang diupgrade menjadi lebih seronok and updated. Also Hans Zimmer punya score memang menambahkan every kind of mood yang ada dalam movie ni. 2) The CGI and animation is outstanding and memang tak dapat bezakan the real and the animated ones. 3) Character wise, kitorang rasa yang paling evolve and menyerlah is Timon and Pumba which was played by Billy Eichner and Seth Rogen. 4) Untuk Disney fans, movie ni mungkin adalah satu fan service pada mereka, because the nostalgic value dalam ni agak tinggi di mana they actually recreate every scenes and dialogues from the original. Which will also bring us to our first point of Cons. . Cons : 1) Everything is simply the same as the original. Except for one or 2 scenes yang tak memberi any impact to the movie. Kalau rasa dah takde duit hujung bulan, korang boleh tengok je the original on Netflix. 2) Pada kitorang the star studded casts sebenarnya adalah bukan benda yang positif. Why? Because all we hear are them, the actual stars and its distracting. 3) Our last cons is the lack of emotional weight portrayed in this new version compared to the original. Disebabkan the static expressions of the animals and the hyper realistic look, we as the audience tak dapat nak relate dengan any emotions or mood. . So what do you guys think? [🇬🇧 down] Где как не в Африке смотреть Короля Льва? ⠀ Давайте забудем про все эти странные новомодные эксперименты Disney по перезагрузке классики - перевоплощение Ариэль в темнокожую русалочку (что???), плоская и не очень захватывающая версия "Алладина" от Гая Ричи (я правда была расстроена после просмотра) и пр. ⠀ Новый "Король Лев" прекрасен. Красивый, трогательный и..такой родной - ведь в плане сюжета ничего не поменяли! Я вновь рыдала как ребенок - вот Симбе показывают его королевство, вот умирает отец, вот львенок скитается где-то в пустыне (а не Намибия ли это случайно?). И какая же реалистичная Африка! Закаты, рассветы, зелень, водопады - все как у нас здесь. ⠀ Впрочем, именно к достоверности картинки и цепляются многие критики. Мол, животные не смеются, не плачут - никаких эмоций, прям как в жизни. Да еще и все на одно лицо: и львы, и гиены. "А Пумба в новом формате вообще растерял свое лучезарное обаяние, став самым обычным бородавочником". ⠀ Не знаю. Может быть, в Африке я уже слишком долго, но мне было странно читать подобные замечания. Лев не рыдает - для меня это ок. У всех героев фильма совершенно разные мордочки (как вообще можно говорить, что похожи?!). А бородавочники - милахи (и неважно мультяшные или в жизни). ⠀ Переживала, умилялась, смеялась, плакала, наполнялась теплом. Неожиданно классный ремейк. Уже смотрели? ⠀ PS: львёнок на фото ненастоящий) - Let's forget about all the latest Disney experiments with the classics. They are strange, BUT the new "Lion King" is beautiful. And I have watched it being in Africa ❤️. ⠀ However, there are people who say that the movie is actually not that good. "The animals lack emotions. Everything is just too real. Pumba is not charming anymore", etc. ⠀ I do not know. Maybe I have been living in Africa for too long now, but it is really strange for me to read such comments. I laughed, I cried, I was filled with warmth. Unexpectedly great Disney remake.

@lionking review by your one and only @babythakker 💁🏻♀️ ROAR!🦁🐾 Did that sound like a king’s roar? Well, maybe someday. But I am sure that sounded like a little simba roar for now. Well, so this Monday me watched #TheLionKing with my Mufasa and Sarabi. Oops I mean Ma and Pa🙈🤣 and god that was one movie to watch. I mean I had always heard about this from Ma, Pa, Ki and Ka but since I am not from their era, I didn’t know the whole story but yet was excited to see Simba. Such a cute cuddly woodly lion baby he was in the first half and I almost planned to adopt him just like Timon and Pumba wanted to but then Ma told me he can eat me up so I dropped the plan. I almost cried when Mufasa died😭😢 Or maybe that was just because of the roars of BIG Lions😱 But before I could cry louder I saw a chubby Pumba running towards with tiny Timon on his back and I was like hahaha they be so funny🤣🤣🙈🙈 oops I hope Pumba won’t get mad at me for calling him chubby. I know you don’t like bullies but me is cute and chubby too so peace out Pumba. Well, the movie continued with some jokes and then some aww moment when Nala and Simba met again and the condition of Timon and Pumba was pretty much relatable to me as even I get jealous when Pa and Ma hug or Ki and Ka too for that matter🙈🤣 And then the movie got even more interesting as Simba went back to fight with the scary Scar and become the king of the pride rock. Me was literally dancing when he did dishum dhishum to the bad Lion and hungry Hyenas. Team lion for the win🙌🏻😘🦁 Well, the cutest part however, was the ending when they introduced the baby of Simba and Nala the same way Simba was introduced. I was like Awwww soooo cuuuteee🤗😘🤗😘 Well, this was the best movie I’ve ever watched. I haven’t watched too many but still. Totally worth my time. Especially with the voice of @iamsrk and @___aryan___ I’d go with 5⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ P.S. I just realized Simba looks a lot like me. #TheLionKing (2019): 6/10 ⠀ Directed by Jon Favreau (‘Iron Man’), The Lion King is the 2019 adaptation of the 1994 classic, one of Disney’s most celebrated animated films, with the musical still going strong even to this day; Favreau also recently directing 2016’s ‘The Jungle Book’, which should give some indication of what to expect. ⠀ The big plus for this version of The Lion King is undoubtedly the visuals; incredible, photo-realistic detail in the landscapes and animals, right down to the individual hairs that make up the lion manes. Like nothing you will have seen before, and surely a shoo-in for a nomination at next year’s Oscar’s. By making the animals look and act as true to life as possible though, Favreau loses an unhealthy chunk of the heart and soul of the 1994 film; the animals just don’t convey anywhere near as much emotion, the singing feeling almost alien in conjunction with what is appearing on-screen. It’s all a bit disjointed. ⠀ Billy Eichner (‘Bad Neighbours 2‘) and Seth Rogen (‘Knocked Up’) at least bring some freshness to the table as Timon and Pumbaa. Whilst the characters feel familiar, large portions of dialogue are ad-libbed, as the two bounce off each other for some of the more humorous moments of the film; there’s even time for nods to previous Disney classics. ⠀ That’s where the differences end though. Apart from some tweaked dialogue and scenes to bring the film into 2019, this is a near frame-by-frame remake of the original. It’s by no means a bad film, and will introduce a new generation to its timeless tale, making Disney bucket loads of profits in the process.
