Unpopular Opinion: I loved The Lion King 2019 remake. Since there’s so much talk about Disney remakes due to the Pinocchio teaser I thought I would share this. The Lion King is the most controversial and hated of all the Disney remakes since it is pretty much a shot for shot remake of the original and people say the animals didn’t show emotion (they did sometimes). But I would go as far to say it’s my favorite of the remakes. I didn’t mind it being a scene for scene remake and they did add a few small things and differences. The emotionless animals didn’t bother me either & it made me think about National Geographic (which is maybe what they were going for). But I will say I didn’t like how they handled Mufasa’s death it was pretty cheesy, but just wait til Bambi comes out 😬 I obviously like the original better & I think Disney knows the remakes won’t make people forget the originals. But the lion king isn’t as bad as critics will tell you. the casting of young scar/mufasa and the replacement of jon favreau has me cautiously optimistic for the prequel. most of the problems came from jon, as is shown by the commentary and VFX artists speaking out. if you’re going to blame anyone for being lazy, it’s jon. he directly stated he didn’t give the VAs much direction, making them seem stiff, and the emotion/color problems were him pushing the realism despite the artists’ pushing back at him. MPC does great work, it’s all in the direction. this movie made me want to work there bc i could tell it was great work being held back.

my entry for #nuruadoption , 5. he’s a lion i would call Kipanya(swahili for mouse). when he was born he had abnormally large ears, and his parents gave him the name of mouse as a joke. even though his parents had fine intentions, the name and his ears plagued him throughout his young life. eventually he grew into his ears for the most part, but he’s never able to escape his name. he eventually found a pride that accepted him, and was able to have a better self-esteem.
Barry Jenkins is set to direct the Lion King follow-up to the 2019 blockbuster. Jeff Nathanson, who scripted the last installment, is back in the fold and has completed an initial draft of the script. They are keeping the logline under wraps, but according to Deadline, the story will further explore the mythology of the characters, including Mufasa’s origin story. The film will continue with the photo-realistic technology that director Jon Favreau used in the 2019 film and 2016’s The Jungle Book. There is no release date set for The Lion King follow-up or for the production start, but it is understandably a top priority for Sean Bailey’s division after the last film grossed $1.6 billion worldwide. Ah remakes, love or hate them they're certainly here to stay for a while so I figured it's time to just enjoy them and avoid this crazy hype bandwagon they seem to pick up. Admittedly the original Lion King was never a favourite in the Disney world, a great film for sure but I never got the appeal most people my age group seem to have. In a way I feel this makes me enjoy the 2019 remake a lot more. Stunning visuals displayed here, seriously this film is gorgeous to look at. A lot of hate was how this was a boring shot for shot version of the original and with that said, how can that possibly be a bad thing if you like the original? This gorgeous adaptation with a stellar voice cast all a round. I can only agree that yes with more realistic animals it's harder to display emotions within them but I didn't find this took me away to strongly from enjoying the film at all. Music of course is brilliant here again was surprised the film only contained one original song during the film (minus the credits) as I thought we may have got a few new additions but again i'm not mad at this and I'm glad Disney didn't throw songs in for the sake of having them in there. Did Spirit add anything new to the film? Not particularly but it was a cute scene and of course it was inevitable we'd get a showcase from Beyoncé being attached to the film. Overall I found this remake to be enjoyable and gorgeous to look at, of course was it needed is the strong question and my response is no one is forcing you to watch these remakes. So I finally just watched #TheLionKing2019 on #DisneyPlus. As for my thoughts about it, my only response is: did this movie really need to be made? I already went into the movie with low expectations based on the reviews and my love for the original animated film and I still feel a sense of disappointment after seeing it. The movie is almost a shot-by-shot remake of the original film. Clearly Disney only made this film to make money, it’s almost devoid of the soul, spirit and humor of the original movie. Out of all of the Disney live-action remakes I have seen so far, this is definitely my least favorite, even though it’s not completely live-action.
