The 50th Anniversary Dessert from Landscape of Flavors in Disney's Art of Animation Resort was a delicious raspberry cheesecake with a rose gold champagne-infused glaze on an almond cookie base. The Sweet-and-Salty Chicken Waffle Sandwich from Sleepy Hollow in Magic Kingdom was so good - the perfect mix of sweetness with heat from the Broccoli Slaw with a Honey-Sriracha Glaze. The fresh-made waffle was so soft and delicious and the fried chicken and broccoli slaw provided the perfect crunch. The house-made chips were a tasty compliment and made this a very substantial meal. My son absolutely loved the Grilled Street Corn on the Cob from Flavor Full Kitchen (I think he ended up having it 4 times during our trip) and I really enjoyed the Seared Verlasso Salmon with Farro Risotto. Although the salmon dish was small, it was very hearty and quite satisfying. We had a great week at Walt Disney World and Disney's Art of Animation Resort did not disappoint! This was my first time staying in a Lion King Family Suite and I loved the theming. With 3 separate sleeping areas and 2 full bathrooms, the accommodations were perfect for 3 adults. I especially enjoyed having quick and convenient access to EPCOT and Disney's Hollywood Studios using the Disney Skyliner. Halloween may be over but, in Mexico and other parts of Latin America, Dia de los Muertos celebrations continue. The Day of the Dead holiday is celebrated from October 31st through November 2nd and is a time of prayer and remembrance of friends and family members who have died. It's a joyful rather than sorrowful celebration and features the building of ofrendas (family altars), as well as food and drink as offerings for the living and the departed. Bright orange coloured marigolds help to lead the souls of the dead to the family's ofrenda. I learned all of these interesting facts during a talk given by a Cultural Ambassador on my recent Mexican Riviera cruise with Holland America Line. Spent a couple of hours visiting the Hotel del Coronado this afternoon. This gorgeous beach side resort on Coronado Island, built in 1888 and known as 'the Del', reminded me of Disney's Grand Floridian Resort and Spa. I had some time to walk around the ship one last time this morning before my disembarkation group was called and stumbled across a couple of things I hadn't seen before. Today's port stop was Mazatlan and I spent several hours off the ship today touring around. We started off taking a boat ride to where the Pacific Ocean meets the waters of the Sea of Cortez. In this area we viewed several offshore islands that are home to a diverse bird population. After getting off the boat, we boarded a motor coach and made several stops around the town including one where we watched a pair of brave cliff divers before making our way to Old Town, home of the Cathedral Basilica of the Immaculate Conception. On vacation, I love starting my day with room service. It feels like such a special treat but it's actually included on a cruise ship. I had the absolute pleasure of dining at Pinnacle Grill on the Koningsdam this evening and it was, without a doubt, one of the most delicious meals I have ever eaten. My dinner started with a Jumbo Shrimp Cocktail followed by Lobster Bisque and both were outstanding. Two of my table mates had the Forest Mushroom Soup and loved it. We also had two orders of the Clothesline Candied Bacon to share around the table and it was even better than I could have imagined. Bacon and candied maple - need I say more?! My main course was the Petite Filet Mignon that was cooked medium rare to perfection. One of my table mates had the Beef Tenderloin with Lobster Dumplings and said it too was delicious. Our table shared several sides including Asparagus with Hollandaise Sauce, Sautéed Mushrooms, Roasted Baby Beets with Blue Cheese and Baked Potatoes and they were ideal accompaniments to our meals. Luckily we dined at a very leisurely pace so, in spite of everything we'd already enjoyed, we managed to squeeze in dessert. I absolutely loved my Jacques Torres Chocolate Souffle! I also had a small taste of Vanilla Bean Creme Brulee and Not-So-Classic Baked Alaska which were both also amazing. All in all, tonight's entire dinner was incredible with top-notch service provided by the staff at Pinnacle Grill. The Lido Market is quickly becoming my favourite place to have a quick bite to eat on the Koningsdam. There are several different stations to choose from and they each feature different options that are sure to suit everyone's tastes. For me, the Distant Lands station is definitely a stand out. Today there were two completely different menus - Distant Lands Asia offered 3 kinds of sushi roll and 4 different mains. If that wasn't enough, you could even request a fresh made entree with your preferred ingredients. It might be the first day of fall but it's also National Ice Cream Cone Day. One of my favourite spots to get ice cream in Walt Disney World is the Anandapur Ice Cream Truck in Disney's Animal Kingdom. I particularly like the chocolate and vanilla twist in a waffle cone.
