INTRO POST 💌 Hello! I have a *new book* coming out this week that I am SO excited to share with you! Stories have a way of bringing people into our lives. They are a wealth of knowledge & you will make their day. We met an awesome guy who was a retired naval engineer & us making his day made my day 🇺🇸❤️🇺🇸 ✔️Make sure you check out the gift shop. It’s a little pricey but they actually have some really great stuff. The San Diego working waterfront. On the North / Central Embarcadero you can see the famous Star of India (Part of the San Diego Maritime Museum) as well as nearby attractions like the Portside Pier restaurant complex. This is also abn actual working waterfront with fishing gear on the Grape Street Pier, as well as a place for the larger luxury yachts to dock. (I tried to get a name but couldn't find one on this beautiful monster yacht. Further south is the B. Street Cruise Ship Terminal, Broadway Pier, the G-Street Mole, and the USS Midway Museum. Tourists can literally spend a full day exploring this 1 mile of the Embarcadero. I worked this area for over 30 years, and is still a joy to be there... Gay Little Hearts performed aboard the aircraft carrier USS Midway (CVA-41) for the ship’s “Sayonara WestPac Show” on 8 March 1960. The ship was moored at Yokosuka, Japan. The ladies won first place 🥇 as the ship’s favorite entertainers that evening. Ruriko accepted a flower bouquet on behalf of the band. This article is from the March 1960 issue of the ship’s newsletter, “Midway Missile.” The article reads: “Sayonara WestPac Show “Saying ‘Sayonara’ to MIDWAY in a big way here were the eleven specialty acts brought aboard the evening of March 8 at Piedmont Pier in Yokosuka. “Starting at 1930, the show which was scheduled to end at 2130, continued till 2200 due to the numerous encores taken by the enthusiastically received groups. As is habitually the case when they appear, the Gay Little Hearts were the audience’s favorites, in fact their eight encores exceeded by two the number of songs in their regular performance. “In for second place on the applause meter was Miss Mitsuko Nakayama, a little girl who is a wizard on the xylophone. Then came Miss Keiko Chiako, song stylist, recently back from Las Vegas, followed by the Duke Aces, who gave a fine imitation of the Mills Brothers’ famous songs. All of the top four groups were presented with a bouquet by Master of Ceremonies Dave Davidson, whose hard work had gotten the show and the stars together. “A crowd estimated at over 2500 crammed Hangar Bay One and everyone should agree that there was no finer way to carry home a pleasant memory of our stays in Japan.” USS Midway (CVB/CVA/CV-41) was commissioned in the US Navy from 1945 to 1992.
