In Italian there is a word - "voler bene". It literally means to want well. There is "amare" - love, and there is "voler bene". This is when you treat a person in such a way that there is no one closer to him. "Amare" holds on to physical pleasure. The strongest feeling on earth is when "amare" grows into "voler ben". There is nothing more important on earth than the feeling of "voler bene". It comes only through the years spent together, and these years should not break trust. The loss of such a long relationship is more tragic than the loss of love and even more physical pleasure. The loss of "voler bene" is real, deep loneliness, absolute emptiness. There was a huge "voler bene" between my greatest friend Federico Fellini and Julietta Mazina. Fellini was cared for by all the women in the world, but his final gesture was a genuine anthem of love for Juliet – a nearly paralyzed man who ran out of the clinic when he learned she was dying in a hospital in Rome. He traveled five hundred kilometers and laid next to her. And when Fellini died, Juliet disappeared. I wanted to use real authentic corals and it was difficult to get permitted by law real corals in Orange, red and coral hues, but I found them and bought them with special papers. While Growing up and going through my childhood -One memory stands out is my mom diligently washing bed sheets or tablecloth, the fresh scent of detergent in my nose. As a child, I helped her, taking the damp sheets outside our apartment to hang them to dry in the freezing cold winter and watch them blow side to side in the wind that hit my child’s face with million needles sharp, and watch all sheets suddenly froze in their movement, stiffened by freeze It was enchanting. The sheets would sway gracefully in the wind, their whiteness contrasting against the gray backdrop of the city. It was during these moments, as I watched the sheets dance in the air, that I would lose myself in the world of vintage movies:- Eastern European Films depicting war and finding solace in Italian movies; Film sets in Sicily or Greece , depicting washerwomen, resonated with me deeply. As I grew older, these childhood memories and the movies that shaped my perspective became intertwined with my artistic expression. I embarked on a project LOVE PROJECT, aimed to convey the essence of love through my artwork. One of the central elements of this project was the incorporation of hanging cotton panels, reminiscent of the bed sheets I used to hang outside to dry, - a visual representation of my childhood reality and dreams. They embodied the purity and simplicity of love, both in the everyday acts of my mother washing the sheets and in the grand narratives of war and revolution portrayed in the movies. entering my art show, you would be greeted by a scene reminiscent of my childhood. The cotton panels, swaying gently in the air, evoked a sense of nostalgia and longing. The films that had shaped me played on screens, transporting viewers to a different time and place. Through the LOVE PROJECT, I aimed to create a space where art and personal history intertwined, where the emotions evoked by my childhood memories and the cinematic world of Russian and Italian movies merged seamlessly. The LOVE PROJECT art show dismantling, “take down” day, when it took me a whole day to remove 57 photos, and a whole day - wires and equipment then a 3 rd day to arrange and roll up the curtains and load the cars. What’s interesting,- there was no sadness or melancholia but pure content, some bliss to see the cotton panels being removed one by one and row by row- it was even then very beautiful. It actually looked like an art installation itself! I kept walking through, dreaming in another realm, being so blissfully happy with the show because the dream came a true reality, unbelievable. The hard team work to put the show up and down and huge expenses to produce the show, (oh well, that’s another subject), but the artist must go on, keep moving forward, continuing, creating, -otherwise we suffocate. Printing an art book next on LOVE PROJECT and finishing another 10-15 scenes for it that we’re planned but not finished. Book publishing is not easy, searching, googling, researching, -so much work. One of the most fascinating photo in my LOVE PROJECT series was with Astronaut in the water , covered with flowers, fauna and real 🦋, as if he fell from the moon and died but nature continues growing on him, “reclaimed by nature”, so here is behind the scenes of us making props for the scene shooting with Ozcar @realoscarlopez with real cocoons that I ordered from England, and real dry butterflies from a farm where they grow them and where they naturally die, so I glorify it in my scene as if live, we are making a cock cocoon with natural fibers of real tree out of which butterflies are born - nature is all I wanted and a mystical setting.
