INtangible by RAMON LEON What a great experience! There was so much learning thanks to the visit and interaction of everyone who could attend and participate in the Opening (it was a pleasant surprise to see so many familiar and unfamiliar faces; everything exceeded expectations). The “TERTULIA” count with Nidia Baquero, and had an excellent turnout with a great opportunity for attendees to get to know MIFA’s facilities and activities (we had very fruitful conversations about topics related to my work, creative processes, and other subjects like curation, galleries, and what it means to be an artist in a city like Miami). And yesterday at the Closing of “INtangible” (Great closing! We had a great time, those who hadn’t had a chance to attend before could make it, and several friends came for a repeat visit. Thanks to everyone! Now it’s time to pack up and keep creating to find more opportunities to share my work. Exhibiting isn’t easy, but it’s part of the process, and I’m starting to appreciate these opportunities more and more. 💡 ARTIST SPOTLIGHT 💡 @jixiiin Born in Nantong, Jiangsu Province in 1988, Ji Xin’s art portrays the homogeneous representations of complex emotions shared by the collective that can travel through time, examining the hustle and bustle in the void, demonstrating a grasp of the seemingly innocent but subtle atmosphere of his works. Ji Xin’s creations were born out of the search for classical, innocent, delicate, and mysterious complexities. In this process, the artist draws on external nutrients, cutting out the self in his work and presenting the figure as a detached reality. In perceiving changes in the outside world, the artist has pursued familiar techniques while creating idealized worlds, playing with surrealism and detachment, all while keeping a clear link to reality. His practice seeks to dislodge history from its status as the “past” in order to unearth its contemporary relevance. He cuts, crumples, shrouds, shreds, stitches, tars, twists, binds, erases, breaks, tears, and turns the paintings and sculptures he creates, reconfiguring them into works that reveal unspoken truths about the nature of history. Kato lives and works between Tokyo and Hong Kong. Describing painting as the root of his practice, with bold clashing colours the artist depicts children with unusual faces, embryos with fully developed limbs and figures with bulbous heads attached to slim, graceful bodies. Working intuitively, Kato applies pigment to surfaces directly with his hands.
