I went a little rogue on my final two blocks for the #summermemoriesqal and made the baskets without the center HST. I now have twelve blocks, and I'm stopping there. I'm super happy with how this one looks, and a slightly smaller finished size will work better for me. The biggest lesson I learned is that the pattern envelope tells you the type of fabric for a reason! I sewed the famous McCall 7969 using view A with a quilt cotton strawberry print. It was a very simple make with easy to follow instructions but the cotton doesn't drape as well as a synthetic fabric would have. The sleeves are loose fitting but still have volume. Definitely will make another will the correct fabric! A lightweight rayon or gauze would be been a better choice. This pattern has been in my stash for a while and I always wanted to make it! I finally made this @mimigstyle pattern from Simplicity using View A. The dress has a fitted bodice, two tier gathered skirt, and of course pockets! I made tie straps for the back instead of the buttons. Very beginner friendly pattern! The bright pink floral print fabric was on sale so I picked some up for the project. Despite a number of unforced errors, I did manage to finish my first two blocks for the #summermemoriesqal. Mine will have more of a fall vibe to it. I made a few alterations to the pattern. The biggest one was using the Creative Grids small cat's cradle ruler for the center of the baskets. If you haven't used that one, I highly recommend it. So happy the way this turned out! This is a repeat pattern that I had issues with the bodice. It was too big and popped out in the front. After a few suggestions, I pleated the front and I love it! Finished another dress that my niece will have to grow into using Butterick 6885. The watermelon print, purchased at JoAnn Fabric and Craft, screams summertime and the ruffle detail along the bottom of the dress is my favorite part. It was a very quick sew, of course the gathering of the ruffle and bodice took some time. There are three buttons on the back that have the perfect shade of blue to blend in. Caught up on Moda Blockheads 4. This is Block 9 and Bonus Block 4. Block 9 is Cross My Mind by Brigitte Heitland. Since my plan is to use @thelmacupcake's setting, I need four 18" blocks. I was watching Corey Yoder sharing her Beautiful Day mystery BOM on her YouTube channel yesterday, and it hit me. I have an Apricot and Ash panel...can I use these large blocks for the four I need? As it turns out, yes! Yes, I can! Corey's BOM blocks are 16" finished, so it required a little adjustment, but it works, and I love the way the panel blocks look with the smaller Blockheads blocks! All finished with Simplicity 9545 using View C. I used a remnant of 108" inch wide cotton with a blue plaid print. The pattern was simple enough to follow and I would make it again. I need to work on the cross strap across the chest, not sure if I marked the right notches to line it up correctly. I think it is a cute print for the summer time.
