What to do when a piece you love just doesn't sell? I'd listed this spider piece on Etsy for 175 (shipping included) and on eBay for 165 for over a year, and it hasn't sold. Which is sad, but it begs the question - wouldn't I rather just keep it? I love it! It's incredible! I rehydrated and pinned the spider myself, placed it inside the oval frame that I resin-cast and painted from a silicone mold that I also made. The lace is vintage, the background is hand-painted pink ombre. The side embellishments are cast from a mold, sanded, painted. The corner embellishments are metal. Everything is resting on vintage, dark blue silk, inside a large black, glass-covered shadow box. It's 12"x12", so it's a pretty big piece too! After either platform's seller fees and ad fees, if I had sold it online, I'd only have earned maybe $120. And it turns out that's absolutely not enough to get rid of it. There's an odd feeling of empowerment, knowing the value of your work, even when buyers don't seem to. And I don't blame the buyers... I blame the horrific algorithms designed to punish small businesses, and I blame the market being flooded with cheap, mass-produced crap. It's ok... really...
