🧡 I am so, so, SO proud of this young lady 🧡 🥊 Aneka, AKA "Skywalker" stepped way out of her comfort zone on Saturday to have a Muay Thai fight. 🥊 Although she didn't get the win against and a super tough and very aggressive opponent, she did some truly impressive things and landed some amazing shots throughout the 3 rounds. 🥊 She got hit with some big punches but always gave back some of her own the best she could. I was really proud to see her begin to push her opponent back for the first time in the whole fight with a minute to go. She showed not only great technique but huge heart from start to finish. We are not, and will not every be a "fighters" gym. I spent 25 years successfully training amateur and professional Muay Thai and MMA fighters and putting on fight shows up in Gladstone, but that is not my vision and passion for our little club here in Mitchelton. I want to be able to share and give my knowledge and experience to ordinary people now, who want to learn the beautiful art of Muay Thai for their own physical and mental development. I want to be able to give everyone the chance to train like and look like a fighter and get all the benefits that training in Muay Thai can give them, without having to fight, and without having to train with fighters. On the 23rd of April our kindy children went on an excursion to St Williams. They learnt about the life cycle of a plant 🌱 and were able to take some back to kindy. There are always many heated debates on social media platforms and DJ forums regarding the digital age of DJing, syncing and beat-matching. Traditionalists (like me) will likely suggest that beatmatching is an essential skill required to be called a DJ. Beatmatching is a highly skilled manual process, using a monitor and/or headphones to bring two tracks into line, resulting in an audience hearing a synchronised set of tunes, usually in a flawless journey. There is a specific ability required to recognise and count the bars, predict or read the drops and breakdowns, whilst bringing the two tracks into line manually – without any help from software – to ensure the mix doesn’t sound like there’s a horse on the dancefloor. However, there are many who view syncing, looping and the likes as also ‘playing music to an audience’ (as mentioned earlier) – therefore “DJing”. This begs the question - can simply auto-syncing two tracks on software be referred to as “DJing”. I’ll let you decide. 👊 On Saturday Shihan/Khru Zoe and I head over the Chikara Martial Arts for the first BJMA East Coast Krav Maga training day in 2024. 😁 We had a fantastic time! I loved learning the strategies, principles and skills that our other Krav Maga instructors use and teach. But I loved training with everyone from all the other clubs even more. I got to work in with fantastic martial artists from the other clubs in Oxley, Ipswich, Sunshine Coast and Maryborough and loved every second. I was 4 hours into the 6 hour day and having and absolute ball smashing out punches, kicks, knees and elbows on the pads with the legend Brett from Maryborough holding for me - you can see me loving it in the pics LOL. But, as old bodies often do when we push them too far, my calf tore with 30 seconds to go 😔 But whatever, anything worthwhile is HARD WORK and things happen when you push yourself. I wouldn't change a thing and can't wait for the next one 😎 I watched and helped when I could for the last 2 hours of a fantastic day that EVERYONE should do at least once. Some reasons you should jump and have a go a the next one later in the year: 👊 Train with fantastic people who will support you but push you to your best at the same time 👊 Step out of your comfort zone! We all need to do that MORE 👊 Learn from different instructors who will not only teach you new things but give you different ways to think about your martial arts too 👊 Learn how to use your Zen Do Kai and Muay Thai techniques and training drills 100% for your self defence. 👊 Learn things that you might not get to in your normal Zen Do Kai and Muay Thai classes! 🫵 I really would like to see more of our SOGO Zen Do Kai and Muay Thai students step out of their comfort zone and give the next Krav Maga training day a crack. ❓ What have you got to lose? NOTHING. ❓ What have you got to gain? SO MUCH YOU WILL BE BLOW AWAY. GO FOR IT!
