Let's talk 💬 Travelling with a baby must be an extreme sport, from attempting to pack everything to carrying everything through the airport. It's honestly a gamble how bubs will be at the airport or during the flight. The constant change of routine everyday and scoffing food down in resturants. It's a wonder why we do this to ourselves, I need a holiday from my holiday 😂 In saying this, I think we worry and stress more than we need too. All the people we encounted were so wonderful and so understanding towards bubs. Many people made faces and played with him on the plane when he was having a rough time. Let's talk 💬 It's always fascinating to learn about how every culture/society of individuals view and deal with pregnancy and post partum care. During my journey, I've been blessed to learn about the traditions of my ancestors and how important it is to nuture and take care of my body, so in turn I am better able to grow my baby (in my belly) and feed my baby (through breastmilk). I found it amusing that I'm not supposed to walk upstairs whilst pregnant, but if I couldn't avoid it, I had to slowly ascend and descend the stairs. VERY slowly. Post partum care is huge in Vietnamese culture. The Vietnamese people believe that post birth, a female body is weak and fragile and requires extra care and attention. Women in the family are supposed to flock to the mother to help her take care of bubs and herself whilst she goes into confinement, to help her heal her body and soul. Confinement can go from one month to three months post birth. During this time, the mother heals herself through various means of heat therapy, like steaming the body and completely covering the body from heat to toe, making sure not to expose skin. No showers, and definitely no hair washing. Confinement also heals the soul, and prevents mother and child from being sick when they're both still in a vulnerable state. I won't lie, growing up in a Western country, I found this very odd and it was quite a shock to the system. It differed from what I've been taught in the hospital. Make sure you get fresh air outside. Make sure you remain physically active. This differed very much from what the women in my family have taught me. But in saying that, following the footsteps of my ancestors has made me feel more grounded and connected to me. Never in my whole adult life would I be so excited to watch a little human roll over, sit up or even clap. It absolutely baffles my mind, but hey, here we are 😂 In saying this, it can be so nerve wracking when your little human isn't on track to meet their milestones. I get it, they all do things at their own pace. Every little human is different but it is so hard not to compare, especially in this age of social media. It's World Sleep Day!! 😴 Wouldn't it be nice to get in some extra zzz this weekend. The recommended sleep guidelines indicate adults on average need to sleep within 7 - 9 hours daily for normal brain function. However, studies have shown that many mums sleep on average 5 - 6 hours daily which is a considerably less than the recommended amount. If we broke it down and did the maths, mums lose on average 2.5 hours of sleep everyday. This means just after 30 days, many mums would have lost 3 days worth of sleep. By the time bubs is 1, that value adds up to roughly 38 days of lost sleep. It's insane to think how well we function, considering the lack of sleep. Let's talk 💬 After experiencing the joys of pregnancy and child birth, the sleepless nights with bub, and adjusting to life as a new mum, post partum hair loss really hits you like a rock. Personally, after all the changes my physical body went through, nothing gets to you like losing your hair. Just when you think you're ready to venture out and take on the world again, good joke because the bald spots are real. I understand that most women experience post partum hair loss but it really impacts your self-esteem and brings you down. It's embarrassing to talk about, despite how normal it is and how many women it impacts. Post partum hair loss is when women experience excessive hair shedding after birth. This is due to the hormonal changes during and after birth. A massive decline in estrogen results in hair shedding in women. It generally peaks around 4 months post birth and can last up to 6 months. Most women regain normal hair growth by the time bubs turns 1. Unfortunately, not much can be done to prevent this from occuring but I know I'll be going for a mum cut soon. Let's talk 💬 Being a first time mum has been an amazing experience. It was forced me to slow down and truly reflect on life. It really grounds you and showcases what's truly important in this world. I have loved every moment of being a mum, and would not change it for the world. I have so much love for my little man that I could not have thought would be remotely possible. However, in saying this, no one really prepares you for the rollercoaster that you're about to embark on as you attempt to figure out your new norm. No one talks about the hopelessness you feel when you literally have no clue what the heck you're doing. The pressure you feel from doctors, nurses, family, friends, onlookers, whomever to make sure you do not deviate from what's socially acceptable. The loneliness you feel when you watch life pass you by as everyone goes on with their day. The realisation that you're just a number at work, who can be easily replaced and forgotten. And why would we? Being a mum, especially a first time mum, can be really difficult. But it's important to keep the conversation going and talk about the struggles along with the triumphs. We live in a fast paced world that is so focused on being "perfect" and "instagrammable" that we forget to slow down, to take a better look behind the camera, to see and understand what's truly important to us. I have been truly blessed to have the most amazing people in my life to support me, shout out to my husband who has been my rock through it all. I would not change it for the anything. BORN TO REIGN 🇬🇧 . What a build up to the most fantastic weekend of celebrations! ❤️🤍💙 . As we’ve returned from a well deserved break, it’s been lovely to listen to everyone recount their weekend festivities 🎉🥳 So many parties, special activities we’re staged and boy didn’t everyone make such a huge effort 🤩 Obvs the Party at the Palace was THE BEST “STREET” PARTY 😆 the World has ever witnessed and MOST importantly it didn’t rain!!! 🙏 . Even the Republicans amongst us have reluctantly joined in and had so much fun 😜 .
