👣🌰🌿 Outside, In 🌿🌰👣 B arts have been working with participants at Growthpoint and B arts to explore the theme 'Outside, In'. ‘I only went out for a walk and finally concluded to stay out ‘til sundown, for going out, I found was really going in’ – John Muir With both artists Natasha Mchugh and Nicola Colclough, participants to the sessions have been exploring the themes of being outside, walking and well-being. 🌿☀️ Natasha McHugh is a multi-disciplinary artist and maker interested in class, identity, prison abolition, land, and its ecology. Natasha has been creating visual artworks with workshop participants for this project, and says: 'Outside, In is a project exploring mental health, our local environment, visual art and nature. Working with groups from B Arts and Growthpoint over the past month, we have been making sculptures out of natural and found materials, to create tiny, whimsical temporary installations intended to bring vibrancy, humour and nature back into grey, urban and industrial spaces that are in disrepair around Stoke Town.' Last week, we had a wonderful private exhibition of these installations, and a fantastic turn out of workshop participants, friends, family and B arts associates hunting down all of the pieces of artwork around the site. 🔍👀 You can go and find these artworks for yourself! FREE SOFTPLAY AT BENTILEE FAMILY HUB 📍 Dawlish Drive, Bentilee, Stoke-on-Trent, ST2 0HW This morning we went along to the Bentilee Family Hub (previously known as Treehouse Children’s Centre) to spend a couple of hours at their soft play which is completely free to use. Admittedly it may be in need of a good deep clean but it’s a great, free way to entertain younger kids for an hour or two, my 3 year old really enjoyed our visit. 🏡 FREE to use 🏡 Open weekdays only, 9am - 5pm, including school holidays. 🏡 No booking required, you can come and go as you please. 🏡 Children need to be under 145cm to play. 🏡 A larger play area with a spiral slide, tunnel, bridge etc and a separate toddler area with a small slide and climbing frame. 🏡 A big box of toys and books for the kids to play with. 🏡 A cafe and tables (Sab’s Cafe) right next to the play area with really affordable prices and a good selection of food. THE POTTERIES MUSEUM & ART GALLERY 📍 Bethesda Street, Hanley, Stoke-Trent, ST1 3DW There’s been lots on at the @potteriesmuseum over the Easter holidays and last week we went along when they had dinosaur appearances on. It’s a lovely museum full of local history, lots of interactive exhibits which are great for kids and both my 6 year old and 3 year old enjoy our visits whenever we go. It’s a great, free/low cost way to spend a few hours. 🏛️ entry is free but there is a donations box at the entrance. 🏛️ Open Wednesday -Saturday 10am -5pm and Sundays 11am-4pm. They sometimes open for an extra day in school holidays. 🏛️ Displays include a natural science section (a firm favourite for both of mine), a secret garden, an archeology section, local history section, an art gallery, ceramics and the spitfire gallery. The refurbished Spitfire is housed in a glass fronted extension and includes displays detailing the aircrafts engine and history, it’s a really great part of the museum. 🏛️ Onsite cafe with a nice lunch menu and a counter full of cakes and treats. There’s also a picnic area within the cafe seating where you’re welcome to eat your own food. 🏛️ Just around the corner is Hanley library, we usually combine with a trip to both. 🏛️ We parked on Tesco which is across the road and you get 3 hours free parking. John Street carpark or Brakes carpark are the nearest pay and displays. 🏛️ There’s a really lovely gift shop in the foyer selling lots of unique items inspired by the collections in the museum. 🏛️ Until 2 June 24 they have on a ‘Carboniferous Monsters - 100 years before the dinosaurs’ exhibition. This costs £6 per adult, £3 per child and under 5’s are free. My 6 year old likes prehistoric type stuff so found it interesting - but we didn’t spend very long in this bit at all. 🥓 BREAKFAST CLUB 🥓 Today we went to the Free Community Breakfast Club at Endon Village Hall for the first time! We enjoyed a cheese and bacon oatcake, a Staffordshire speciality, and plenty of tea! 🫖 We also took part in the Easter rock painting activity and an Easter egg hunt! 🐣 There was a soft play area and toys out too. 🧸 It was a lovely, welcoming atmosphere and all for free, although donations are welcomed to help keep the breakfast club going. 🥞 It’s on every other Thursday from 9:30am - 1pm and they have lots of special events! EASTER AT EMMA BRIDGEWATER This morning we nipped over to the @emma_bridgewater factory in Hanley who have a couple of FREE activities running over the Easter holidays. 🐥 Cuddle a chick with @hens_for_hire - We met and held a newly hatched, tiny chick. These are FREE drop in sessions, with no booking required. There’s also a table with colouring, word searches etc and a dress up box with an Easter backdrop for some photos. It’s all set indoors so a perfect rainy day activity. Upcoming sessions (10:30am-3:30pm) are: 📆 Wednesday 27th March 📆 Tuesday 2nd April 📆 Friday 5th April 🐥 There’s also a FREE children’s trail - pick up a sheet from the studio, hunt down the clues around the shops, garden & courtyard and solve the word puzzle to win a treat. 🐥 The cafe (open 9:30-3pm) has a lovely selection of drinks and cakes as well as serving a breakfast/lunch menu. Booking isn’t required but they do get busy. It's World Storytelling Day! The theme this year is bridges. World Storytelling Day is a global celebration of the art of oral storytelling. It is celebrated every year on the March equinox, on (or near) March 20. I would love to see some more storytelling events and shows in Staffordshire. It was a magical evening and we couldn't have done it without you all! ✨️ A big thank you to all our artists behind the scenes: 🐾 The lantern making, public workshop team, Ryan, Reb, Dan, Alex, Holly, Richard and Tash for helping the community to make all your pyramid lanterns. 🌿 The Lantern masterclass group who worked with Richard to co-create our giant moth and bottle kiln mechanical sculpture lantern. 🦌 B Arts Studio, Dan and Richard, for running workshops, making and preparing our large scale lanterns and preparing Stoke Elk for its second Stoke Lantern Parade. ✨️ Our actors and performers, Kath, Emily and Jess for taking us all on a journey through time. 🐾 Sound Intervention, Dan Fox and Tom Mortlock for providing and operating boom box bikes with music and projections throughout the evening, and setting up their digital faceboard 🌿 Kidda Kinsey for mask making workshops and creating animations to be projected during the parade. 🦌All of our stewards and volunteers who organised, handed out lanterns, lit candles, operated big lanterns and assisted with the procession. ✨ The Stoke Elk puppeteers, Richard, Dan and Ben for bringing the Elk to life and leading the way. 🐾 Rebecca and Martin for leading and the organisation of the event. 🌿 Stoke Council, Stoke Minster and Stoke Indoor Market for support and providing space. VICTORIA PARK, TUNSTALL 📍 Queens Avenue, Tunstall, Stoke-On-Trent, ST6 6EE Earlier this week my toddler and I visited Tunstall Park (also known as Victoria park). I haven’t been here in years and I’d forgotten what a lovely little park it is. It’s a great size for kids with lots to keep them entertained including a playground, lake with ducks to feed, plenty of green space to run around and a cafe. 🦆 A playground with lots of varied equipment including a gated area for children. 🦆 A lake with lots of ducks 🦆 A community cafe (Floral Hall) which is open weekdays 9am-3pm. 🦆 Lots of paths, green space and areas for kids to play. It’s really well kept. 🦆 Public toilets 🦆 Lots of free, on street parking next to the entrances. There’s also a carpark next to the cafe. 🦆 Tennis court, basketball court, playing fields and skateboard park. 🦆 Full of historic landmarks such as the Adam’s Clock tower and a granite boulder.
