McNicoll was a pioneering impressionist artist who studied traditional techniques including en plein air painting and life drawing. The program seeks to explore McNicoll's artistic education and techniques, including the grid system visible in many of her works. On Wednesday, together with the students from Painting and Sculpture Diplomas, under the tutelage of Tony Mott, participated in discussing artistic techniques exploring the challenges faced by women artists like McNicoll during that era. Matthew Krishanu - The Bough Breaks It would be easy enough to walk away from this exhibition assuming Matthew Krishanu had a strict, no-fun Christian upbringing. In the opening room are huge paintings where young boys climb banyan trees, ride a Kashmiri pony, hide inside the crevices of an oversized Henry Moore sculpture and generally do all the outdoorsy things kids used to do in the pre-smartphone era. Except… where are their smiles? Dive into 500 years of British art at Tate Britain, where admission is free! From iconic classics my two favorite art pieces are from David Hockney’s “A Bigger Splash” (1967) and Sir John Everett Millais’s “Ophelia” (1851–2)🎨 Currently, there are exhibitions featuring Zeinab Saleh’s intimate paintings and drawings which I recently discovered her art. I love that light blue color in her paintings. Her exhibition runs until June 23, 2024 🩵 Another exhibition I encountered is from Chris Ofili. I didn’t know him before visiting, but there is a very interesting story behind his huge mural on the wall. Requiem pays tribute to Khadija Saye and remembers the tragedy of the Grenfell Tower fire.
