THE BARDS were a Celtic order of minstrel-poets, with abilities to memorise and recite factual information such as histories, laws and precepts, as well as story and myth. All of these they were trained to deliver in an understandable and engaging way, usually through verse and song. These abilities made them highly valued by kings and chieftans, who would hire bards to communicate and celebrate their achievements and deeds of bravery, and to disparage their enemies. The bards also committed to memory their patrons’ family histories, which were not written down in Celtic society, and yet are believed to have been passed down extremely accurately because of the bards’ skill. I’ve always loved the idea of putting out music, studying it, being a recording artist, sharing with others what makes me feel truly fulfilled. This album is the culmination of not only my life-long ambitions, but also the hard work put into each and every detail. I guess what it really boiled down to is; if i was going to make an album, it had to mean something deeper to me than just being 12 random tracks. To me, homestead represents ideas of found family, self-love/care, and building up your own form of shelter from evil. I wanted to encapsulate these things into each song, the good and the bad, because every emotion we feel is so important. Right now, it feels like all the energy i put into this project is about to be released out into the world. No longer mine to keep, these songs are for you. I want you to take them as they are, and let them mean whatever you need them to mean. The shitty ways i felt writing some songs or the excitement i felt writing others- none of that matters anymore… and not in a cynical way. It’s just time for them to take on their own personal significance to whomever hears them, and i think that’s equally as beautiful and important. Thank you all so much..
